Thanks a million for watching and sharing you success. Honestly, I'm horrible at tying a haywire twist without the tool. So, thankfully it exists. Totally awesome you've got it down and can confidently add it to your repertoire. Thanks again for always being here and supporting the channel. I truly appreciate it. Couldn't do it without you. Tight lines & take care ;)

Hi Alex, Thanks a million for watching and always being here and supporting the channel. Palomar was the first fishing knot I learned, used it for everything... As I gained experience, I taught myself to switch up knots for what I was using them for, which is not only connection, but shock absorbency, or lack there of. Regardless, for braid to hardware, if tied correctly, this is fail proof. I use it for planner trolling and deep dropping, two methods that put a tremendous amount of strain on the non-streching connection. Thanks again for everything. Tight lines & take care ;)

Thanks a million for watching and leaving some excellent feedback. Always a true pleasure hearing from you and having your support for the channel. Couldn't do this without you. As the creator of this channel, I feel it's most important to convey what I'm doing and how I'm doing it, in a honest and simple manner. That way anyone who is interested in learning or growing, can get in on the fun. Don't think the winds are gonna let up this weekend, hopefully next week. Good news, is spring is right around the corner, southeast winds are coming.... That means Mahi. Thanks again for everything. Tight lines & take care ;)

Hi, excellent video. I need your opinion. I don't trust too much in knots (braid to mono or fluorocarbon leader) for Bottom Fishing or Jigging (over 150 ft depth) and Trolling. For this reason I prefer a swivel but I found a typical problem with this type of rig, the risk to damage the top tip of the rod. So I bought a package multicolor small rubber balls, drilled a little hole side to side, introduce the braid line, usually 65lb-80lb and use 1 red bead and tie the braid to the swivel. In the other side of the swivel I can change my leaders anytime (80lb mono) without worry about damage the top tip or guides of the rod. The small rubber ball protect the top tip and the red bead protect the rubber ball from swivel, a red bead connected with the swivel directly can be broked and the swivel can cause damage to the fishing guides. My reels are Shimano Torium 16 HG and 20 Hg (jigging and bottom fishing), Shimano Tyrnos 16II Double Speed (Bottom fishing and Trolling) and I have a brand new in box another Shimano Tyrnos 30II Double Speed that I'm planning to use with the same rig for trolling mainly. For live or chunck bait I'm using a Shimano Thunnus CI4 12000. Thanks for any comment or advice!

Thanks for your input. Yes... guides can be damaged by braid.... it will form a groove in the guide that will cut the line .. Your method of adding beads may work. But I suggest finding a rod with stainless steel guides if you're concerned about this issue. I have many episodes with planer trolling about using roller guides and slow pitch jigging in which the guides are fabricated to withstand the heat of negative pressure. Ultimately it's a process of trial and error, but that's what I'm here for. Tight lines

Great knot!!! I usually go with a uni-knot simply because that is what I was taught. Braid is an interesting material to work with compared to fluoro and mono. Heck, I don’t think it existed when I was a kid fishing with my Dad. All I remember was mono. I really like the idea of having two loops and double the strength at the swivel. This was another good share on your part. Thank you.

Thanks a boat load for watching and always being here. I truly appreciate your support and sharing your experiences. I grew up fishing too with my Grandparents and dad... But didn't know about braid until the mid 90's... However, it was invented in 1953... just not used on a wide scale format like today. Double or triple palomar is definitely a solid knot for braid.. there's many other knots that give a great connection (cat's paw) but if I'm thinking about average Joe angler, and not trying to complicate things... I'll stick with the Palomar... Also, it's what I use when I'm out there, so no need to be misleading. Glad you took away some helpful info. Thanks again for everything. Tight lines & take care ;)

Hi Mickey, thanks for watching and always being here. Hope you are settling in to your new home well. I learned the palomar when I was like 5 years old... used to be the only knot I knew. When I started planer trolling and switched from mono to braid, I found out the hard way, and learned through failure, about this connection and using a virtually indestructible swivel. My issue with braid, is cutting myself on it. Thanks again for everything. Hope all is well with you and the family. See you Sunday. Take care :)

Hey Captain Heath! Which planer technique do you use? Are you putting the planer directly to your braid mainline, or are you tying that planer braid line to a stern cleat and then sending your main line down with double snap swivel/rubber band? Tight lines from Hawaii 🤙🏽

Thank you Teacher. What rod do you recommended me for 50 pounds reel to Bottom fish and trolling. Thank you
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks a million for watching and asking a great. I'm going to assume you are referencing a 50 wide conventional style reel. If I'm correct, first I wouldn't recommend that for bottom fishing, but for trolling it's great. Line rating is simple, If it's a 50w then you'll want to put 50 pound test on it. However, the number system on reels can be confusing, and I could be interpreting what reel you have incorrectly. If you tell me what manufacturer and model number the reel is, I could probably lead you in a better direction. you can also look through the owner's manual for the suggested line rating and capacities. Always great to hear from you and have your support for the channel. I truly appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)

@@SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing thank you, Teacher. I made a mistake it is 40 pound reel. I bought a a Shimano speedmaster 25 ii and want to set a brake at 17 pounds drag. I want a rod not very high priced. What is your recommendation. Thank you.

@@PetClipdog So I did some research on your reel... Very nice choice. Personally, I would spool it with 20 pound test monofilament... If you're going to be doing both bottom fishing and trolling. If you're looking for a good rod, with great shock absorbency and a lifetime warranty, I'd go with a 7' star rod form the handcrafted series. Here's the link to the rod so you can check it out: www.starfishingtackle.com/handcrafted-boat-conventional Hope this helps. Tight lines & take care ;)

Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. Yes, this knot will work with fluorocarbon. Don't feel left out, the number one cause of lost catches, is knot failure. Even if the knot is tied perfect, sometimes, for unknown reasons, they come undone. To help you out. Here's a link of an episode I made on the top 5 most common fishing knot and how to tie them: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKakoGSje7WCl7M Hopefully this will be helpful. Thanks a million for watching and sharing your experience. This happens to be the only application where I use a Palomar knot and specifically because there is so much pressure put on it by the planer I double up that first overhand knot and using braid is perfect for this application because braid only tightens down on itself like a Chinese finger trap. Other than that I don't really use a Palomar knot especially tied with monofilament. Thanks again for your support of the channel I truly and sincerely appreciate it. Tight lines & take care ;)
