If you doing the center hold method at your waistline make sure you don't have a metal belt buckle.

First off what the hell is an azimuth lol I guess I'm lost before the video even began

It is your bearing, degrees, or direction you are walking in. Thank you for the comment as we sometimes forget this is not common knowledge.

So many guys in USMC sniper school cheated land nav by using GPS. If they were to ever have been found out they would lose their Sniper MOS (job title) and get administrative penalties. One guy who got caught was literally kicked out of the infantry. That is sad.
@calculatedsurvival Жыл бұрын
Very sad especially since learning and executing land nav is not that hard.

@@calculatedsurvival yup. Being in that platoon was a huge upset. I was with about five good men and the rest were….ego and alcohol.

We learned how to do this in college. We use bearings to cruise timber on a regular basis.

In the second method you can add moving the luminous line to where north needle on the compass. This will be made easier by simply aligning the compass arrow with the lum line to keep course

Good video. This is the 2nd video I’ve seen where they don’t put the sighting wire at 90 degrees. Why is that? The instructions say to put it at 90. Also, with it at an angle, the sight radius is shortened, which will only decrease accuracy. With a baseplate compass, it’s at an angle because of the mirror. No mirror on the Lensatic tho.

is he talking about following a straight line in rough Terrain?
@fabioinsogna9811 Жыл бұрын
He is talking about using azimuth as a navigation method. With a map at hand and pace count you can always aproximate where you are. If you break down your path with frequent checks you get to navigate safely to your destination. Every big achievement is made of little steps.
@janico64 ай бұрын
When you have this problem you align two objects on the trajectory and as long as they are aligned you will maintain the azimuth

I can’t see without my glasses so that ain’t gonna work
@twocyclediesel128010 ай бұрын
As someone who’s had to wear glasses for many yrs now, plastic frames are so much more comfortable anyway. I’d never go back to metal frames. The plastic for me, have also been more durable. Most metal frames I had, lenses were constantly popping out.

The lensatic compass has a magnifier with which you can adjust and see the azimuth
@RenzieCat10 ай бұрын
No disrespect you should mention that typically a compass is used in conjunction with a topo map..
@janico64 ай бұрын
Not necessarily because if you're using it to maintain a course you don't need a map.

I'm really struggling to find high detail topo maps. I'm looking for 1:10000 UTM for hiking, hunting, and land nav practice. REI, Sportsman's Wharehouse, USGS, don't sell them anymore. Please help.

MyTopo. The default maps are 1:24000, but my topo will customize one in the scale you want.
