Jaw Tooth. I do believe you have discovered the PERFECT hobby. All you have to is find a rail road track and set down and wait. No train? No problem. Walk on the track and look for stuff that falls off the freight cars. And when the train comes it's icing on the cake. Best part is it's free harmless and no chance of a over dose. It is addictive tho lol

Hi Bullfrog! How are you doing? Good to hear from you again! I like to try to experience the area that I am in while waiting. It's fun to see what the town is like. I like walking the area, eating at a local restaurant and seeing what they have. My favorite thing is to stay overnight if I can find a motel that has a view of the railroad. I have stayed in dozens of them. Once the train comes I know I have a video. Lol. I have a list of places that I want to visit. Marietta Ohio is at the top of the list right now because it has street running but the train only goes up and back once a day. Have a great week!

@@JawTooth a few miles north of Portsmouth Ohio is a super 8 motel. Lots of decent eating close by and the track is right across the hiway from the motel. Ever in that area check it out

@@357bullfrog2 I don't think I have stayed at that one but just a quarter mile or so north of Super 8 is a Quality Inn that we have stayed at several times. That is a great area for railfans since there are lots of trains.

Awesome! I believe that was Q576-26. 576 usually runs everyday, 504 Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. 574 can run this way but it has ran the LCL More. 352 and 216 also use this line but those could take the LCL. This line recently has been averaging about 3-4 trains a day, not counting locals.

I like the old signals. Those old rusty cantilevers and the old B&O signal. You should remember those of us who enjoy checking out the signals and other infrastructure that supports our railroads and show more of that sometimes. You can tell the town has been around a while and is a bit neglected. Notice how the rail bed sinks between the roads. But I noticed early in the video that one of the street cantilevers was sticking out of the street IN FRONT OF the curb instead of behind it. Amazing it has not been knocked down a few dozen times by reckless drivers. Then they might move it behind the curb for some protection from traffic. Otherwise, awesome vid. Thanks again!

Another big thumbs-up JT. Not only for the train stuff but also for showing different towns in the USA. I live in the UK and a lot of the places you visit look really interesting. So I often have a look at them in good old Google Earth Street View. Fascinating stuff and so very different from here in the UK. I have never visited the USA even though my father was born in Upper Lehigh PA. One day .......

Just when I thought I had a count going, one of those yellow and blue fire hydrants popped up! I’ve never seen them before. Brilliant capture, as usual Jaw Tooth. I couldn’t imagine living in that town, you’d want to know the timetable! Record length of a train was set here in Australia: 4.6 miles long. It was an iron ore train running from outback mines direct to a shipping port so minimal inconvenience to the public. 🙀

Frighteningly long train! I counted up to 171 cars- when I woke up, another video was running on my computer! I wonder whether they should not be splitting the train, instead of cutting jobs just to save money! Saving money may help a company, not the country. It is creation of jobs that help the country. The crew is technical and trained, that is the real national asset. Such crews should multiply, such assets should grow, not paper profits. Ill fares the land, to hastening ills a prey, Where wealth accumulates and men decay. --Oliver Goldsmith, 1770.

R Nanjappa When I first hired out as a fireman on the Texas & Pacific Railway in June of 1973, which merged with Missouri Pacific, and then the Union Pacific, we had 5 crew members on the train. An Engineer, Fireman, Conductor, and two Brakemen. The third brakeman had just recently been cut from the crew. The fireman was not a required position. We were there for training to become engineers. Back then engineers did not come from the conductors and brakemen like they do today. Before I retired we only had the Engineer and Conductor on our through freight trains. The locals, dodgers, (traveling switch engines) and yard switch engines has three crew members, also down from five. And yes loosing the caboose cost us the rear brakeman. The installation of the Hot Box and Dragging Equipment Detectors also added to the loss of crew members. Then remote control engines in yard service cost us the Engineer’s job. But the last I heard on our division there are not any remote control jobs left. I believe because there were too many accidents, radio failures and or interference. In the airline industry they have had, for a good while, the capability to fly the airplanes from initial airport on the takeoff roll to the destination airport through the landing roll out, with out the pilots. It’s all done with programmed computers. What they can’t do yet is the taxiing from and to the gates and runways. But they are working on that too. There will probably still be pilots on board to take care of changes issued by ATC and unforeseen situations and emergencies.
