Awesome! I have a 10" f6 Dobson I've had for 40 years, and the mirror was made by the world renowned Richard Fagan. I used to draw pics of Mars every chance I got, along with the great Planetary Astronomer Don Parker, but the space probes put us out of business.

Outstanding! One of your videos ("Star Clusters, Nebulas, Galaxies through my Telescope") to be exact got me interested in astronomy. Now I own a 14" Dob and a RASA 11 - CGX-L and just finished building my backyard observatory. Please continue making these videos! Clear Skies! 👍

Alnitak shows up nicely and the Flame Nebula after a brief exposure, but the Horse Head takes several exposures. My experience, as well. Nice pic!

Can you see it with the naked eye from a dark enough area or do you need a filter or long exposure?
@X_Excelsior

Very difficult. I could not see it with my 14“ Dob under Bortle 3-4 skies.

Yes, same. Never saw Horsehead with the naked eye.
@X_Excelsior

There are however many reports of people seeing it under Bortle 1 skies with 12“ or larger telescopes. Another option would be using a night vision device like the PVS-14 (attached to the telescope eyepiece) to see it from the suburbs.

@@X_Excelsior I wonder if that means you'd be able to see it in space. Maybe the atmosphere is what makes it hard from Earth.
@X_Excelsior
@X_Excelsior 3 ай бұрын
@@StarwayBunny Yes, the transparency of the atmosphere is a huge problem and of course light pollution. Viewing from above the atmosphere would give you a much clearer and sharper view, but the nebula is still very faint. A telescope with lots of light gathering power would still be necessary to see the nebula.
