Wow. Now this was really great footage right here. Simple, but effective. Showing the system, showing it actually working on a larger scale, and then coming up to show the beauty of the ocean and why this is being done. All without saying a single word or single bit of text. We need more stuff like this. Well done Ocean Cleanup.

That's not even big enough to clean a lake 😂😂😂😂 But "cost" millions.
@steeldriver5338 Жыл бұрын
@@AquarianNomadic That's more then big enough to clean a lake, but that's besides the point. The fact that they're doing something is more then enough. According to them, they've already removed more then 200k KG of plastic this year. You're also ignoring the work they're doing elsewhere as well, namely the capture of plastic at the source. And every cent is well spent imo.

I am always surprised at the size of the large items that are just floating around our seas. Great work all who are involved in this amazing clean up.
@claymonsterpottery Жыл бұрын
I’m also fascinated by how much or our waste floats. What percent sinks to the bottom?
@TheMijman Жыл бұрын
@@claymonsterpottery Probably most of it. Most metal related, dense plastics, things weighed down by water, a lot of fabric will eventually sink... You're seeing a lot of stuff that floats, simply because you only see the stuff that floats.

Littering has nothing to do with it. In parts of China and India, plastic is disposed of just by throwing it in the ocean and waterways.

It's actually not really making any difference at all, it's basically equivalent to them taking out a teaspoon of plastic while at the same time 100 truckloads of it are being dumped into our rivers and oceans.

Hey! That's my bucket lid! I'd recognize it anywhere. Some jerk stole it out of my sabot at a dock in Dana Point, September 23, 1979. ...and then the thief just threw it in the ocean. He wasn't just a thief, but a polluter as well. Where do I write to get my bucket lid back? That was my favorite lid. I used it on my bait bucket, which died several years later. Seriously, fascinating video. Amazing how calm some of those spots in ocean can be. Thanks for sharing. More importantly, I think this is a worthy project.

Because the cleanup systems are meant to stay in the patch for long periods of time, it is important that our systems can withstand the forces of the ocean. We will continually monitor the loads in the system and adapt the speed and span to lower the loads in the case of rough seas. We will also monitor weather forecasts and plan a trajectory to avoid storms, and by understanding the patch climate, we can plan to operate in less critical locations. In the case of a particularly severe storm, the system can be temporarily withdrawn from the operation.
