Why Pocket Hoses Fail Description: 2 Plastic connectors on each end of the hose. One expandable tubing is clipped onto those connectors. One non-expandable but larger tube of tough fiber weaved outer jacket. water pressure causes the inner tubing to expand like a balloon. the outer cover prevents the inner tubing from over expanding and popping. The inner tube expands by water pressure. Then contracts when the pressure drops. The greatest pressure happens right near the connectors. Each time this happens, that inner tubing begins to form cracks. When enough cracks near to each other forms, water pressure forces it way through that weakened area, ending up as a leak, most frequently right near the connectors. The clip that holds the rubber tubing keeps it from expanding. Meanwhile, the non-clip hose expands. The difference between them generates the biggest cracks. Then at that area, it splits open. The more you use the hose, the sooner it splits open near the connectors. once you understand the problem with these types of hoses, you must decide whether or not they are worth your while. If you do a ton of use, then vinyl is the way to go. If occasional, then pockethose like products are the better choice.

Would a water pressure regulator help prevent this?
@MrPanetela2 жыл бұрын
@@nataliesmommy303 It would certainly extend the tubing life time. But the inner tubing will eventually crack due to repeated stretching from water pressure expansion. The more efficient procedure would be a better longer lasting inner tubing.

Any chance you could tell me the exact brand you use, MrPanetela? I love how these hoses fold up so nicely but, I am wasting my money on them!!
@MrPanetela2 жыл бұрын
@@boxing830 its been quite a while, and don't recall the brand name, but it has since been replaced with better hoses, but the design is still the same, a narrow surgical hose inside a foldible but non-stretching cover. Eventually the surgical hose pops like a balloon as it ages and repeatedly used. I foresaw the down turn of the economy so i opted for a vinyl hose, and carefully protect it from direct sunlight and hiding it from winter weather. Still works fine. Even if its a bit of a pain to use. hope that helps, best wishes to you and yours

Silly enough, my 5 year old xhose that I had thought I lost and have recently found again, still in box was leaking obviously or I wouldn't have found my way to this video. I have a different version of the xhose, one with a metal band crimped on, I busted that off and did the fix, put it back together with tiny hose clamps and it worked good enough to water the yard. We shall see how long it'll last, but hey, I didn't have to buy a new hose. Thanks for the video!

THANK YOU! Now, what if my hose has blown up in the middle instead of the end? Do I need to sacrifice everything between the nozzle & the leak (ie 1/2 the hose)? Thanks again for helping me save some money! 👋🏼🙋🏽♀️✌🏽

Wish I had seen this video before after throwing out at least 4 of those cloth hoses, from green to the better bullet black ones. The break was at the end too. Well, now I have a different problem, the black mesh I'll call it showed wear and tear and even though the hose expanded like there was no problem in the tubing it showed leak coming through the mesh, not like when the tubing was broke so I figured I could use some of that rubber water paste to seal up the cloth but it didn't work. This leak is in the middle of the hose and it's a 75 foot hose we just bought this summer and didn't save the slip on it or we would have returned it at Home Depot. It's not the cheap hose. Helpful hint is to put an on/off adapter at the end before adding the sprayer nozzle and opening it up to let some of the water pressure out when turning the hose off before winding it up. Our other hose is perfectly fine, this one had a manufacturing flaw in the material I'm guessing. We have expensive rubber hoses stored away only because there're too heavy to handle.

Hi How would you fix it if it was at the other end. Mine is leaking from where the water comes out. Would really appreciate a reply as this was a 70$ hose.
@jasonkyleadams75772 ай бұрын
Mine isn't that consumer-fix friendly (Zero G Brand i think it is). I purchased a male and female house repair kit 1/2 inch, a bit Vaseline to help slide the hose over the ending, then tighten the screws.

I assume this publisher didn't test his repair. If he had, he would have discovered the following. The outer sleeve of the hose must be secured together with the corresponding end of the inner flexible tube (he left it hanging loose). If even a small section of the inner tube is not constrained within the outer sleeve when the water is turned on (ie, pressure applied within the inner tube), it will blow up like a balloon, forcing its way through even the smallest gap in the outer casing, like an ever increasing blister. The outer casing prevents the inner tube expanding outwards so that the only way it can stretch is length-ways. The initially loose and wrinkled outer sleeve expands with the inner tube and becomes stretched, taut and firm. The hose can only work if the stretchy inner tube is securely AND TOTALLY encased within the fabric outer sleeve of the hose.

LOL.. means you manage to repair 4 times and save your money 4 times. You are so Great. My suggestion... when using it, you may try to hold the part that always leaking, holds it straight and doesn't make it bend. or use the tape to tight it and make it hold straight. Hope it may help less leaking and repair time.
