This tone when isolated is almost too harsh with the high mids. But damn if it doesn't sit perfectly in the mix. Shows you the importance of matching great players with a great producer.

I remember the exact place I was the first time I heard this song in 84. Every time I drive by there I think of this song. I remember the DJ on the radio leading in with, " this is a new one by Iron Maiden"
@stevejohnston85437 жыл бұрын
Been jamming this tune since I first started to play in the Eighties. Man we kind of took for granted how good our rock and metal was. I remember buying the cassette (when it came out) and thinking Aces High was a wicked fast song. Seen them in the mid Eighties during this tour, Stands the test of time, classic metal is still what I jam most, only now I can come a lot closer to nailing it. If only I could have nailed this stuff in high school but it takes years (for most of us anyway) to play like this. These guitarist are way underrated. Up the Irons, long live Maiden.

This does nothing but add fuel to my theory that Adrian Smith played all the rhythm guitars on Powerslave. Nearly every guitar on the album with then exception of Murray's solos has that trademark vibrato and tone. I'd love to get this confirmed one way or the other to put me out of my misery. This album is amazing and Smith is a legend who has totally influenced my own playing immeasurably.
@CoffeeMatt104 жыл бұрын
Adrian learned guitar early on from Dave, he developed his style from that but the foundation has always been from what he learned from Dave. So it’s very likely that they both did the rhythm guitars. That’s why they are such a great partnership.

You can really tell here how much more of a dynamic player Adrian is compared to Dave. Adrian opens the riff with so much vibrato on this chords, and then Dave comes in and pretty well stagnates it. I like Dave and all but his rhythm playing is so much weaker
@chrischoir35946 жыл бұрын
stop
@irondarwin24835 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's that Dave is weaker. It sounds better to have a little more dynamics at the into where it's isolated guitar and then level it out to something more steady when the band comes in.
