I really appreciate this video as I attended your business class last year. Life threw me a lot of curveballs and I had to keep working my retail job. I’m finally ready to register an LLC and I need a coating supplier to work with. I know most of these manufacturers will not even acknowledge someone starting out new but I also need a coating I am comfortable putting my name on. This is definitely a test I am paying attention to and thank you so much for taking the time to out this series together.

It was really telling which coating was most durable after 2 months, after a decon and wash. After the toppers were applied, I would have liked to see which coatings “perked up” after the maintenance steps. The coatings behind the wheels do take a beating, need to keep that in mind when they need maintenance. Thanks again for the quality content!

I have a P&S ceramic coating after 3 months, I am blown away. I just wipe the truck off with a micerfiber towel moistened with the P&S "Spray n shine lubricant no rinse spray. 5 min. wipe down, no water, all bug and road film removed without scrubing. I have never seen any product do anything close to this. A 300 mile drive in the high to low desert Tehachapi Ca. to Bakersfield and back plus more in mojave. I have seen people say, "I don't belive in ceramic coating" , I say, yes it is hard to but seeing in believing. Likely most treatments done by a pro are worth it.

Okay. Who makes the best ceramic product. 16 different products frankly does not help me get to a really great ceramic product. I believe in the merits of a ceramic product I do not need to be sold. I believe in the merit of PPF and ceramic on it. My concern is with so many different ceramic products and different ways to apply them and different detail shop with different techniques . I find myself wondering if I am spending the money well. I live in Maine and drive I95 a lot and winters are cold and long. So getting the product right is as important as application of the right product. The long and short of it is TO MANY OPTIONS AND TO MANY PROVIDERS. THANK YOU

Awesome video! I like the real world ones instead of the “torture test” which honestly doesn’t prove much. What you are doing is so much more realistic. I was kind of surprised with opti coat didn’t seem to be doing well. I was more surprise they said use opti seal as a topper. In the past opti coat claimed you never needed a topper because the coating is just that strong; but now they are suggesting opti seal which is sort of strange because they said it wasn’t needed unless you just wanted to add extra gloss/shine. Looking forward to see how it looks in 6 months.

@Chicago Auto Pros Hi, as someone that is on year 3 of my Opti-Coat Pro (claimed 5 year coating) (not the Pro+Plus which was claimed 7 years at the time) on a 2008 BMW 328xi, I am curious if Optimum said anything about doing the maintenance washes with ONR? Like umm, where the Big Red Sponge at?!?! Lol. But seriously, when my car was coated I was given bottles of ONR (Opti No Rinse) and Opti-Seal to be used as a drying agent (not necessarily for "free" but it was included in the deal) and instructed to use those products exclusively for my regular washes. I live in New England and my car is out in the elements 24/7/365. When I had the car coated Optimum only offered the warranty if the car was 10 years old or newer with less than 100K miles (I believe now they only offer it for cars that are 5 years old or newer). The car had 80k but was 11 years old so no warranty for me. The coating is basically failed now at 3 years and although I've been happy with it overall, I'm now deciding what option to go with next and these videos are definitely going to help with that decision, so thank you all very much! It's timely and appreciated! Oh and Optimum, if you're listening.....hook a brother up!!😃

Feynlab is known for the self healing coatings and being the first to manufacture them. They also own one other company who makes one. Feynlab is also one of the only companies who makes their coatings in house and doesn’t re label it through a blending house like many companies. They are true innovators and I love working with their coatings. They have the thickest coating on the market with Self Heal Plus. System x doesn’t come close to 20 microns… especially with one layer. That material can’t simply just thicken over time… with Self Heal Plus you are mixing up 4 bottles into 2 separate bottles of resin. Layer 1 goes on and layer 2 is applied directly on top after it’s set up. Then a leveling aid is used to wipe clear. Heal Lite is a 5 year single layer and the sister to Heal Plus. All Feynlab coatings are car fax approved and insurance covers them to be re applied if a accident happens and a panel is refinished.

Lot needs to be done right in order for these coatings to function accordingly. Seems like a lot for some just to keep up with it or you may think you’re doing everything right and still not enough. For me I’m due for a coating but i may just opt to due single stage and go with sealants from now on. Ceramic coatings do have their pros and ppf may be the better option for those who want to actually protect the paint

The fact that you have to do this type of maintenance barely 2 months in on PRO level coatings is concerning. I understand that contamination buildup can happen, especially for non-garaged daily vehicles, but when your washing on a regular basis (assuming every 7-10 days) I wouldn't expect to do a decon + topper and/or cleaner for at least 3-4 months. I mean again, we are talking about PRO level coatings here.

Coatings add a layer of UV, chemical, and etching protection that a sealant/wax alone will not offer. Even without proper maintenance, a ceramic coating will still offer more ease of care and depth of gloss than sealant/wax alone. There is no such thing as a perfect solution to vehicle protection and ease of maintenance but a ceramic coating is as close as weve come as an industry.
@arapaimagold8088
@arapaimagold8088 2 жыл бұрын
@likeabossvideos Then you've been fooled by their marketing department. Only a coating that has Titanium Oxide has adequate UV rejection. However it only covers small spectrum of UV. Until someone can putting down Zinc Oxide in the formula. All coated clear coat will still turn yellow as fast as bare paintwork.

Some of these (Duraslic) look better than they did in the first two, others seem less impressive now. At least in some camera shots, in others it's harder to tell, especially because the surfaces do differ in steepness, and the patches are small. I sense that this experiment could be redone in a more controlled fashion...like what if you got a ton of junkyard hoods with a larger surface area, set them up outside against a wall at a particular angle, and periodically misted on some sort of tire dust/brake dust/soot/oil/grease/salt/sulfate/carbonate mixture, then every two weeks/months recorded them being sprayed down with water for the same amount of time, distance and angle (put them all on a forklift or something?). You could get even more technical and squeegee off & collect the water that's left on and measure its weight, because while it's satisfying to watch water bead up and roll off, it could be that less dramatic and slower sheeting off evacuates more water and avoids water spots. Would be a nice complement to what you've got going on here. But either way this is a really well organized, well thought out, admirable effort that is sure to yield some informative results

@chir0pter
@chir0pter Жыл бұрын
@@LoganCrum. No, you don't understand the meaning of "controlled variability". It simply means you know the sources of variability. If you have a patchwork of small squares at different angles and receiving different amounts of contaminants, then you can't actually do a comparison because the treatments weren't the same.
@chir0pter
@chir0pter Жыл бұрын
@@LoganCrum. Also it's tough to even measure outcomes with such small patches and just using an 'eye test', plus you're doing mental calculus of "well this y spot looks better than x but y was in a steeper position and z was also steeper but was right behind the wheel, plus is sheeting better than beading?"

You didn’t really get into external factors. I live in Arizona (just west of Phoenix) and am having a VERY hard time with the paint on my 2022 Mini Cooper S 2Dr HT in the Enigmatic Black exterior and water spotting from rain. No matter what I do, one rain = the entire car has thousands of etch marks. It’s monsoon season here, so I don’t really leave the house. I usually park in a garage but I cannot help it when it starts to rain and I’m not home. I’m disabled and 1) cannot do so much personal/physical maintenance 2) afford to keep getting treatments after it rains I had a white Jeep Wrangler but one week after moving to AZ, a teenager T-boned me and knocked the Wrangler body off of the frame. In a parking lot. Needless to say it was totaled out by my insurance company. This was September 2021. No new nor used cars could be found when I needed a vehicle. Im alone out here and only had 15 days to buy something before my rental was no longer covered by my insurance company. Mini had a car coming in within 6 days and I took it. I honestly had no choice. Thankfully I didn’t mind the car, but the price (over $40k!) vs the paint problems that I’m having are not worth the anxiety and tears. The Jeep was going to be paid off in 8 months. Now I’m stuck for 60 months on a car that has given me no joy. It’s my 3rd MINI in my life, so I knew their customer service (in NY) was impeccable but that’s NOT the case in AZ. I don’t know what to do and really need some guidance so that I’m not afraid to leave my home in case it rains. I cannot afford to pay to get the spots out. I did have a person ceramic coat it, but he did it as a favor a little bit less than MSRP due to my financial circumstances and tbh, he didn’t do a good job. I had to take it back 3 times because they kept missing areas and was told “just bring it back next week and we’ll get you all fixed up”. I couldn’t keep driving 1.5 hours each way as it’s painful for me to drive that long as well as sitting there while it’s being worked on. I just couldn’t keep doing it. Plus, at the end, after adding up each “touch up”, it ended up costing more than MSRP in the end. The black exterior plastic trim is dried out and gray. The car looks like it sits outside 24/7 and is about 5-7 years old. It has about 3k miles on it since purchasing it in October 2021. I do not drive a lot, but when I do, I’d like this car (which is more than I can afford, but had no other choices), to at the very least, look nice and not worry about the weather. Thank you for this video. I tried to hear what was best for hot climates with mostly full sun, but either it wasn’t mentioned or I missed it. The area has awful acid rain so coming from NY in a white Jeep, I’m way out of my league and alone here. Depressed, lonely and stressed about this mess of a situation. If you have any ideas, I’m all ears. Please reply if you can. Thank you.

It would be useful to see how the various 'toppers' perform on their own, on a non hydrophobic panel, and see if any beading is added, and if so, how long for.

It would last and perform better on bare panel compared to coated panel. And that's the reason why I only use Final Inspection after wash.

I'm a limo driver, drive 60k+ miles a year, mostly highway, and I'm too busy to hand wash my vehicle as often as it needs to be cleaned to be presentable to clients, so I use the automatic car wash almost every other day. It does a good enough job as long as I stay on top of it, but I know that technically I'm damaging the paint. Having a 1 step paint correction done every once in a while would be fine with me and my budget. But would a ceramic coating be advisable if I'm going to continue to use the automatic wash? I've heard mixed answers about the coating being worn down much quicker and would essentially be a waste of money, and others have said that with the coating I'll need to wash it less often (which is likely true for the average driver, but with as many miles as I drive I doubt I would wash it any less). Thanks in advance.

No. A automated car wash will degrade a coating. If you can set a weekend for once a week for a nice hand wash with products that will help maintain the coating, that's fine.

@@arapaimagold8088 haha so I should have been more concise with my wording. They're going to diminish eventually from contact washing and the environment, but coatings typically last substantially longer on the rear quarter panel/door area because those areas see the least abuse. If you're trying to make a product look good in a test like this, you'd put it on the rear quarter. Knowing this, I'm fairly disappointed in Feynlabs performance in this test. Companies are so hard to trust in this industry. Keeps me going back to tried and true brands like Meguiar's, etc. As a side note...a little pessimistic of me, but I picture ceramic coatings losing popularity fairly quickly. There's too many store-bought products out there now that last 6+ months and take 15 minutes to apply
@arapaimagold8088
@arapaimagold8088 2 жыл бұрын
@Tier 1 Detailing Nope, rear end of the car is the first area where any coatings will die. Rear end is the area where vibration and chassis flex is the highest. Coatings is nothing more than a nanometer of quartz crystal on top of paintwork. Heck, anyone can even crush a coating by just simply leaning on the panel.

@@arapaimagold8088 lol well my $30k commuter car must be the most structurally rigid vehicle in the world. Also not what I've experienced on hundreds of ceramic coated vehicles. I'm personally on year 4 of the original XPEL Fusion formula, and the rear quarter is the only section that still significantly repels water

It is possible you may have compromised the curing process. Best advice would be to give it time and wash again and see how it is performing.

I have a great question here , why did you guys not do so these procedures with the other coatings in the last testing of the last Los of coatings ? Every coating comes with this same information you give ( and you started in the last run that you guys did not ) Just wondering 💭 because this is the same exact Information that any coating gives you to ensure you get the rates years of durability.

Something isn’t right here. Not saying Jason isn’t talented because he is. But I’ve never seen coatings behave this poorly this soon.. Not even the cheap Amazon ones. I’ve even seen carnuba perform better after two months. Maybe taping between the coats is allowing something to creep in or under them since there are gaps with no coating there. I’m not sure, but I swear all of these coatings should still look like day 1 even on the hood. Every coating I’ve ever used has…
