Great review and vid. Appreciate your efforts. I was gifted a Kings Big Daddy Swag. Took 3 weeks to water proof it. (2 days at a time soaking in the bath and then setup). Still had leaks so used a water proofing item from Anaconda. Mattress that it came with was meant to be 75mm. It never expanded out to what it was meant to be even after 3 weeks on spare double bed so I purchased a 23zero mattress, cut to size and fitted. Used the original mattress as a topper. Use a dache double sleeping bag, flannel inside and canvas outside of it. Yes it is huge with both mattresses now but one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. about 500mm Square with no sleeping stuff in it. I also use a bit of water pipe with "T"'s" on the ends, in the centre of the swag to stop the droop of the sides. It works well. I do not have a stretcher for the swag at the moment. Have to say going from using a coleman 6 man tent, and at the age of 53 I do struggle getting in and out of the swag. Upside is that the swag is a lot warmer though. You have me thinking about the stretch now.

I now use a Campmor Rambler tent after using swags for years. 2.1m x 2.1m x 1.85H. Takes me 8 mins to setup but worth it as I can stand in it to dress, and pee in a bottle at 3am. :-) Way more comfortable to use and no stretcher to set up or find storage for. Bag is 800 x 300 x 300 with tent in it (16kgs). Big plus with it is no guys ropes are needed, just peg the corners and sides. Tent has a roof vent for airflow & condensation, 2 large side windows and door. Floor is a very tough 550g PVC and canvas is 400g ripstop. It's quiet in wind, no flapping about. I use a HD foam mat & Thermarest self inflating 75mm mattress, carry 2 sleeping bags, use both in winter one in summer. They're used in safari camps, the scouts and tour operators as they're so durable. Cost me $1.1k but the quality is superior to a Black Wolf or Darche. Better than the Oztents which only store on roof racks and a pain to load unload. Can't see me ever changing the setup. Search KZbin for 'Campmor, Tent Instruction Video'.

Just curious if water can get under and pool under the swag on the stretcher? Ive only just moved to a new swag on a stretcher instead of the ground and thought about it, i see some wider swags completely overhang some stretchers and shouldnt be an issue, some dont and probably aren't with the pvc base swags i assume, but value your thoughts if you have any?

@WildTouring3 күн бұрын
Gday Shayne, I’d definitely recommend giving a stretcher a go mate. They are heaps kore comfortable and easier to get in/out of. But one thing I missed in this video is that it also makes pack up easier. You can roll the swag up while it’s on the stretcher, which means you’re not on your knees.

If I was in the market I would be going this for sure, extra head room and that shelf would be the deciding factor for me, as I find the lack of these in Dome swags a pain. The only thing I would like as an option is, no mattress as I prefer the self-inflating style ones.
@WildTouring5 күн бұрын
Self inflating mattress would definitely help with rolling it up smaller! And would still be comfortable on a stretcher. I do find inflating mattresses don’t offer enough insulation from the ground in cold weather though.

Nice review, Does the larger size help it stay cooler in the heat? How does it go when its cold on the stretcher with allowing wind to get under it?
@WildTouring5 күн бұрын
Cheers mate. I think it would be slightly cooler than smaller swags. There’s also heaps of ventilation, so it’s easy to manage temp with them. When it’s really cold, I don’t notice it coming from underneath. I think the mattress has enough insulation to overcome that. I think the cold comes in through the canvas , and the best way to manage that is layers (clothes and bedding!).

Hey Cam! Great review! It looks really comfortable ❤ Being from the States, I never understood the practically or appeal of a swag. They take up an enormous amount of space, and they are heavy as hell. I remeber canvas tents in the 70s. If it is a heavy rain, water will bleed through canvas unless it's treated. I have a nylon tent thats roughly the same size. It weighs less than 3 pounds, completely waterproof and isn't much bigger than my forearm packed away. My self inflating sleeping pad is about 1.5 lbs and soooo comfy.😊 Do you have mates that use nylon tents? Do you think swags are a cultural thing? Why a swag?????
