I am still thinking about either buying a low milage 300 series or 200.. what do you think mate ? I don't tow btw and it is the custom here to have a lc. I just dont know which is better and if lc300 worth all this money. Would I also pay for a used lc300 model or only a brand new one ?

Great revue, thanks. I've had a D4 Discovery towing 2.5 tonne Matrix AOR van, and intend doing the round Australia, so I reckon a problem with the Disco would not be easily fixable in W.A. So I am looking at vehicles. I am commenting though about the aero. I am a sailor/yachting guy, and when I looked at the Disco's aero (which is not as sophisticated as the 300) I thought there'd be a high pressure air flow at the front of the roof, and then the pressure would decrease. So I did not put in a full length roof rack. The roof rack sound is muted. I've had a spare tyre down the back of the roof rack, and it made little noise difference. A benefit of the 200's rear doors is that its easy to access the rear of a roof by standing on the tail gate with the top down. So no easy rear access with a 300. On the roof rack again - you wanted lots of solar so you needed a full length roof rack. I reckon a flexible solar panel mounted on a carbon fibre sheet with a hinge is a way to get more solar - use your alternator while driving, then fold it out when stopped. And because its folded over, less dust and no chance of a road train rock damaging the panel. Maybe fold out sideways to create some sun shade on one side of the vehicle. The way a lawn mower handle folds out - with an overlap to rest on when folded out - means it could fold out self supported. Curious about the dust too ... where its thickest may indicate a single source? Dust would drive me crazy. I hope it all goes well for you and that she has a long life. Your family look great and they sure are living an adventurous life.

Thanks for the ideas…. I had the same problem with top load washing machine in van. I found that it happened if I mixed types of fabrics. Eg if I had t shirts in with cotton / linen shirts/top it goes out of balance. If I have just stretchy fabrics or just non stretch fabrics in a load it works ok. Might be similar with your machine.

Thanks for sharing your ideas and we have noted a few for us. I did notice that you are still using the Gen 2 Starlink and would like to suggest an upgrade to the mini which is a lot better on power consumption. The added bonus is you can mount it on your LC300 and utilise the in motion feature. I have just updated ours including a mount on our LC300 for using our IPads for navigation.

Honestly I can’t remember the exact fittings I’ve used, but my best advice would be to go to your local homebrew shop, they could easily put something together for you 🙂

BigW have some neoprene laptop bags in different colours, decent, cheap but do the job, might be suitable for your laptops? I bought a couple for storing our baby q’s grills & bits & bobs; easier than wrapping them up, think I borrowed that idea from Ronny? Works great.
