You're doing well Claire. Congratulations. Although quitting alcohol doesn't seem like a huge life changing event at first, it's the cumulative positives (money saved, clarity of mind, feeling good in the morning) that make abstaining life changing. Any "friends" that question your choice or are asking when you're going to have a drink with them, aren't true friends. I can assure you of that. One other thing. If you relent and have that one drink at a special occasion, you may fall off the wagon. I know, It happened to me dozens of times. Stay sober, stay strong. All the best, Sean.

Thank you, you’re so right, it’s cumulative and compounding. Maybe not instant but progressively better day by day.

My situation has been very different. My grandfather was a very violent alcoholic. My Mum said to me many times, "Never have your first drink and you'll never have to worry about your last." It worked. I am 77 and have never had a drink or cigarette. However I will never judge. All the very best for your future. Take care.

Very true. I had expectations of feeling amazing. It's really hard to sit with difficult feelings and emotions at times being sober, but would rather be sober and not have that on edge hangover. Good to see you doing so well.

I hear people say I feel so much better sense I have stopped drinking. I dont wake up tired and groggy anymore. I dont feel any of this. The only difference is I dont drink anymore really starting to second guess my choices, not trying to be a troll just want to share. Thanks

How about health? Finances? Time management? Anxiety levels? Drunken mistakes? I suppose it depends how much a person drinks as to what level of benefit they see. If your drinking was minimal then you’ll see minimal changes.

Focus upon your recovery for the next year or so; all peer-led and recovery groups will tell you this. And avoid looking for a soul mate in said group too! Join a local group: AA, NA or recovery group anything else; including dating, is a diversion. Try not to view maintaining abstinence as another way of instant gratification. Your suppressed appetite and dehydration is your liver complaining. Look at fitness goals too.

Please don't take offense, but just give a listen of my opinion... For the same reason you don't want to go out on a date with a drinker - that it would be unfair... should be the same reason why you shouldn't go out with someone who isn't a drinker... You are not yet ready to date! And looking to fill a void. Alcohol on it's own is rarely the problem, but is a temporary solution to the deeper issues within. You must first feel the pain of those issues before healing begins, and quite frankly it's just too soon if I had to place a bet. Best Wishes on your journey

Yes. It has to suck more than it gives to you. It always does, you just have to realize it.

I don’t think anyone else could have persuaded me to be honest. My deciding factor was a particularly bad night with total memory loss and waking up to wet muddy ruined clothes that suggested I walked home and fell in the pouring rain. I can’t advise how you can handle it but perhaps you can research? If you try and force the subject it’ll probably make things worse so if anything sow very subtle seeds every now and then. Mention a friend or celebrity you read about who quit and has a positive story that might resonate with her then change topic. Good luck

i don’t think you should date for a year or 2 . i love a alcoholic woman who is about to go to rehab for 8 weeks. it’s been a nightmare and after her drinking for 6 ti 7 years she is losing her mind . i sailed away to another country but stayed in touch . it’s hard to have a relationship with a alcoholic. the real test is after rehab
@andreflavell34537 ай бұрын
also she lost all her $ her kids and is homeless. i tried everything to keep her on track . the sad thing 7 years ago she was married and didn’t drink or smoke . educated as well and beautiful. in the last 7 years she totally debased herself especially with random men . alcohol will take away everything fast . it effects women badly. i feel such a fool in many ways as it’s robbed me to because i tried to have a normal relationship. you can’t have a normal relationship with a chronic alcoholic.
