The loss of crackle makes me sad. It had a couple of old shows several years ago that got me through my iron infusions. It was nice to have them handy to just hook up to the internet to watch for free.
@steveurbach3093Ай бұрын
How many ads is too many? Yep. YT and others just think more ads to keep the bottom line above water is just fine. It must be a generational thing, because when I first started watching OTA, there were only a couple in a 1/2 hour. Disneyland (that was its name back then), Mickey Mouse Club, Howdy Doody... Commercials were at the end and maybe 1 in the middle. Oh, most of those product ads are now banned from TV.

Same. Over the years I've been adding to my media library and you can see the stark contrast of 28-minute shows in the 60's/70's and as it goes down to 20-22 minutes of show time over the years. Pretty much a full 1/3rd or more of a 30-minute show are ads now.

For the most part that's very true, because outside of Tubi, Pluto TV, Roku Channel, and maybe Google's free offering, the rest of these free services including Amazon's Freeve just don't have the viewership numbers to bring in enough AD money to cover the content cost, as many of them are just repeating the same reran to death content as other services, and don't have anything original to offer.

There is a HUGE need for a conservative, family friendly streaming package that would offer 40-50 channels for under $50 per month. Fox, Fox business, weather, 5-6 sports channels, discovery, history, hallmark, tnt, tbs, insp, some classic movie & tv channels, etc. My wife and I rented a vacation cabin at a resort in central Oregon and their internet provider had a tv package that offered almost exactly what I listed above. I contacted them and they told me that the resort had customized the programming and they setup their own cable for all the rooms on property.

Just a guess, but exclusive content is pretty rare across the free streaming services.. They mostly offer a lot of the same things with few differences. The major smart TV makers also offer their own free services, like Samsung TV Plus and Vizio watch free, and they have a lot of duplicated content. Roku has dedicated a lot of energy in the Roku Channel as well. The issue is there is only so much to go around. I like Pluto and Tubi the best, but I admit Tubi is a bit temperamental at times, and the music they play during their "blink breaks" is annoying as all get out.
