Hi Katie! My name is Claire and I've been playing clarinet for almost 7 years now. I'm starting college this fall, and now that I have lots of spare time at my disposal I'm really interested in learning flute. I also have been playing the alto sax for about 5 years and recently played both instruments in my school's musical pit orchestra. It made me realize that being a woodwind doubler is a passion of my and I'm feeling motivated to make that a reality. All of this is to say... I'm impulsively buying a used flute for quarantine. And my question for you is, should I go with a closed or open holed flute?? I don't know what will be best considering clarinet is already open holed so maybe I'd be used to it but closed is generally what's on student model flutes, and my options are limited as I'm shopping used. Any advice would be appreciated!

As a flute player i would say to go for the open hole as you can get plugs to put in the holes and take them out as your fingers get used to covering them. I hope that makes sense.
