Forty years ago, me and the neighborhood kids would go to the vacant lot and build forts and shanties in the woods. Never knew back then I was building debris shelters! We were just trying to have some fun away from the parents. All you young people reading this....it was before the internet. On the weekends, we would play outside until it was dark. And then beg our parents to let us sleep outside! Enjoyed your video. I'm a new subscriber.

We enjoy your videos a lot; always intrigued by your variety of locations, shelters and most of all diet. I am envious of your seemingly unlimited energy....lol...mine being somewhat encumbered by a long string of birthdays. We live in southwest Nova Scotia and our climate is somewhat like yours and I often spend time in the woods and have a fire to boil a kettle for tea, or sometimes cook a lunch, but nothing as elaborate as you manage, though we have done creamed lobster a time or two! Just want to say thanks for your video efforts!

Really nice little camp! You need to build yourself a sawbuck. That will make it easier to cut firewood or cut logs to length. Then your standing comfortably and can get full use of a saw blade without hitting the ground. Maybe a wood auger? Then you can carve wooden pegs to join your logs. Hang your equipment off the ground. Over there you have the Bill, something that has been forgotten here in the U.S. Your shelters book looks pretty nice, I'll have to look that one up. That first structure I recognized as a Mandan Earth lodge. Your right that one would take a while to build. It is a communal dwelling and would have a whole extended family in there. It was a winter dwelling and then spring the Mandans would come out and move with the game and forage. That helicopter was indeed a CH-47 Chinook (Shin-ook), the tradition in U.S. service is to name helicopters after native tribes. For breakfast, crack an egg into an orange rind. Halve the orange and use the rind as cups. Same can be done with a white onion. Let them in the coal to cook or into a reflector oven. Do you have those hot water pots that are sold with cowboy cooking setups here? It is like a large stainless pot with a lid. 2/3 of the way up is a small spigot coming out of the side. When you need hot water a cup or bowl is placed under the spigot. Cold water is added to the pot and this displaces the hot water upward to overflow through the spigot and into the cup or bowl. That way you have hot water all the time and don't have to wait. Well done! Looks like a great time out.

That's a Chinook alright. I grew up in Belfast to the sight and sound of British Army Lynx and Puma helicopters over our heads on a daily basis. You got so used to it that it just became like traffic noise, but maybe once a week you would hear a Chinook flying overhead bringing troops or supplies, which always grabbed my attention.. Unmistakeable sound of those twin rotors, they were fascinating things, even though I hated them.
