Awesome story! I also am a brain cancer survivor that just started training BJJ about 3 months ago. Nice to hear of someone else going through the same thing! (not nice in general - you know what I mean) How ironic! I love your videos man, they've been very helpful for a newbie.

Perry Dean Schelin Yeah I have a couple of small plates too. Right frontal AA. Surgery 6/12/15. 100% resection and very few deficits. Really cool to see somebody else still living life and doing physical activities they enjoy. There's too many of us I've met that either can't or won't. Really cool to hear your story. Best of luck to you!

Big Win awesome man. mine was grade III - Astrocytoma left frontal lobe. 85% removed. treatments shrunk it and I'm now a year into basically no tumor. if you're ever in Montana hit me up. stay healthy

This is a great bit of advice. I recently switched my diet from a bunch of crap to 4 healthy meals per day, and I noticed a major performance increase in both my lifting and BJJ. It really is amazing just how important diet is. You should make some videos about your diet philosophies. That would be interesting. Thanks for all the videos so far!

Good advice. So many Americans with overtraining related injuries. I'm a Scot and live in the US. The drive is admirable but often misdirected. That said, I overdid it myself last week and was ill and off the mat most of this week.

Do you have/could you make a video on a good balanced diet for BJJ? I feel like that's my biggest obstacle right now, not for lack of willpower, but rather a lack of knowledge. Thanks.
@Chewjitsu8 жыл бұрын
I don't but I could cover some basics. Do you have any questions in particular?
@Away.Aweigh.A.Way.8 жыл бұрын
Mostly just what the ideal diet for BJJ is. Obviously there will be different needs for different people but just the basics and maybe like an example of a what you personally eat in a day and/or what you recommend for your students, particularly when preparing for a tournament. Thanks!

I'm proud of Perry, I had no idea a platypus could even train BJJ let alone get and survive brain cancer! (In all seriousness my mom had two brain surgeries in the early thousands to remove malignant tumors and it ain't no joke, back then it was a HUGE incision and she has many side effects from ya know messing with her brain.)
@ivynova16947 жыл бұрын
In addition to what Chewy said, a supplement can be taking once a day( NOT after 1 p.m.) a pill of Coenzyme Q10 (200 milligrams pills) and three of Spirulina(1 gram pills). From what I know this combination is an energy booster and it is recommended for intense physical effort. It can also replace coffee.

@Chewjitsu8 жыл бұрын
I'll be honest. I tried it for 3 weeks and I couldn't do it. My output as far as training goes is so much that I feel like trash without carbs. I gave up on it.
@Nismajitsu8 жыл бұрын
I actually eat a plant based diet for BJJ. I was inspired by guys like Mac Danzig and Nick Diaz to give it a go. To be honest, I love it! I always have the energy to train and my recovery rate has greatly increased. Plus I can eat massive amounts of food without putting on any weight. It's pretty fuckin sweet
@LucasKingPiano8 жыл бұрын
Do you have any links or more info for that diet?
@Nismajitsu8 жыл бұрын
Essentially, I just eat whole plant foods. It's pretty much, a well balanced vegan diet with no processed or refined foods like oils or white sugar. I make sure to eat lots of fruits and vegetables as well as whole grains and beans. There's alot of athletes on on here that offer some really good insight on that type of eating
@davericos7 жыл бұрын
Yeah dude! I'm also into it and it is awesome! The first thing that comes into play is how drastically the recovery rate is increased, hope you are doing great.

I’m a college wrestler and I believe I’m a very high level wrestler, and I am learning jiu jitsu but only one day a week only 5 weeks so far. I guess I have a few questions, 1. Does my wrestling background help accelerate my learning process and 2. Should I try to train more days a week and if so how many?
@joshabreu11566 жыл бұрын
I'm still relatively new, but the sweet spot for most is like 3 days a week. I know it is for me. Wrestlers have an advantage starting out and learning could be accelerated by it
