I'm one of the lost and forgotten folks .. I usually end up leaving it on spot because "lazy" :) .. When I get home from work I'll fire up some settings again and tinker (1st time in WEEKS I didn't bring my camera with me) .. Thanks for the content , much appreciated .

Awesome reminders Kobie! I've only explored the AE Linking to AF a few times. Being more of a spot focus / ae lock and recompose person, I don't use that one as much. Although, I might try and use it more just to get used to fooling around with it. The Auto ISO "speed" setting is one I have saved as a quick menu on my K-1. On the K-70, unfortunately, it doesn't have the options for Fast, Normal, Slow, like on the more pro bodies. A setting I often miss when shooting with the K-70. I really like it because depending on the type of lens I use, it can change the ISO settings quite dramatically. On a wide angle lens, down to 1/10 second, I'm 95% confident of nailing my shot. So, I can use a faster ISO. When I start getting into telephoto ranges, I set it to slower ISO settings for a faster shutter. Anyways, awesome tips and thanks for sharing! Such awesome tools to have fun with and customize our experience. -PS- Maybe this could be an idea for a future vid; Auto EV Compensation (Line 4, Page 1 of Custom settings tab, on the K-1 anyways). I've used it once or twice, turned it off. I tend to control it manually. But maybe there are valid reasons to use it, maybe you've used it or experimented more with it?

Linked my KP's AE with AF today. I will see what is the difference next :-)

Interesting. Using the OVF on my film Canon EOS 3, I have it configured for spot metering based on which of the 45 AF points I'm using, then I have Eye-AF, where the focus point moves where I'm looking. I keep toying with the idea of moving the Pentax for my digital kit, but that would mean moving my film kit too since I share lenses. The Pentax lenses that work on their film bodies unfortunately have no stabilization. When your max ISO is 1600 stabilization is handy 😁

I generally leave my K-3iii in link AF point to metering as, while subtle, it can improve exposure overall. Not a substitute for spot metering if you are looking specifically at highlights or shadows but it helps.

I believe Link AE and AF Point is purely for Live View shooting tho, at least I'm pretty sure with my testing in the past on other models it was. When using OVF your metering is simpler, determined from the basic Matrix, Centre, Spot or Highlight.
@KobieMC8 ай бұрын
On my K-30, K-3 and K-3 III it also works in OVF shooting. Most noticeably in Avg metering mode.
@SummersSnaps8 ай бұрын
@@KobieMCYou sure? I left my setting set to On, tripodded the camera (K-1), moved AF point around (similar scene to yours, indoors, lamps on etc) and saw no real difference in exposure. Spot metering for example doesn't follow AF point but sticks to middle of frame regardless. I'm not so convinced it does anything in OVF mode, at least nowhere near as dramatic as Live View.

@@KobieMC Yep can confirm, tried with my K3III as well. I'm sure I did the same testing with my K-1 and it did nothing. I must have done the test poorly or something. That's good to know it works OVF as well. Thanks!

I must admit I'm a bit lazy when it comes to this. I use evaluative metering with exposure compensation 99% of the time. We'll demonstrated video. 👍

Thanks man! I rarely use exposure compensation. So, I'm lazy the other way lol

Hello from France, Thank you for this very interesting video. It’s a very good idea to explain in detail some of the K3 Mark III’s complicated menus. I have a question. Do these settings and especially the last ones that change the speed or ISO work when you are in "Manual" mode or should you go into priority mode at the opening or speed. Thank you in advance for your reply. Congratulations again for your KZbin channel

I have the k5, k3 (mk I), and K1mkII and I’ve always wanted the ability to set the minimum shutter speed. This is one of my biggest complaints with Pentax as they could probably add this feature via firmware update, but they haven’t. There have been so many occasions where my photos were blurry because of a slower shutter speed and I didn’t realize until it was too late. I like shooting in AV mode because I like to control my aperture and let the shutter speed and ISO do their thing, but that doesn’t always work out. I wish there was a way to pursued Pentax to least add this one feature to the K1mkII.

Have you tested Link AE and AF Point while using Highlight-weighted metering? Just wondering if it negates (some of) the advantages of that metering mode. Of course I could test it myself.... 🙂
@KobieMC8 ай бұрын
I haven't tested that combination. My guess is that it would still function, but you'd have a darker exposure depending on the amount of highlights in the scene plus how bright the subject is. I'll try it out and see what happens!

I tend to leave this feature (AE linked to AF) on. When/why would it be better to have it off?
@jbp67598 ай бұрын
Maybe if you're shooting action/wildlife. The AF point can jump around sometimes and throw the exposure in a frame or two in a sequence. I still leave mine on though since I'm shooting RAW and can adjust later. It never changes so much that the file is garbage as a result
@johncantrell6143 ай бұрын
Do you have a preference for the clarity setting, or do you leave it off?
@KobieMC3 ай бұрын
I leave it off. I use DxO Photolab 5 for editing which has its own clarity (Clearview) which is very powerful.
