I think it’s time dudes just start listening and thank the lord he has the wherewithal to break this fabulous camera down and explain for us all what the settings and options are in a constructive manner for us all to digest . I dont know what is happening at Pentax , but this guy is and has been the ambassador for Pentax alongside Lee Iveson for a long time so come on Pentax give this guy some respect and his due.

Great info!! Thank you Kobie for explaining modes in detail. There’s so much to the K3Miii, it makes sense to know what’s best to use in certain situations with certain lenses. This video makes it much easier to decipher settings rather than digging in to the manual as our only option.

Thanks for the video Kobie! I'm looking forward to the next one. I wish someone would've done something like this for the K-1. I'm still learning about my K-1 II.

Kobie, especially with the K3 Mark III getting down to the nitty gritty makes for greater understanding. Just a great Part I and I agree with another commenter that Pentax needs to reach out and show you some love. Great job!

Hi mate, I know it's AF-S and not AF-C but within the new update (okay, it's old) i found out this firsts races of the season that Using Menú Options 3 and 5 (I got frustrated last year and backed up at 3 and 4) with subject recongnition that works flipping amazing! It's just like having a new camera (again!) Now I need to update my 2nd body to the latest firmaware :) Also in ISO usabilities it looks to work way better than previous versions of the software as in-box pics of racers at the track aren't burned as the K3-III with a lower software update does. Have a good day!

Just viewed a second time while using my camera. Lots of great stuff, but well done. I find I need to hold the back button focus when taking a shot in order to see focus points in playback. Is there a menu setting so eliminating the need to hold down button. I notice you don't seem to have a need to do that. Again, many thanks for demystifing a lot of K3 Mark 3.
@KobieMC

You must have the button pressed in to activate the AF system which will tie into the display. I use the shutter button for the videos since I can't press the back button with my phone shooting the viewfinder.

"It mostly comes down to the lens"... I just shot over a hundred mostly out of focus pics with my 16-50mm DA+ PLM lens of my son's graduation. Pretty unimpressed. After watching this, I switched off of spot focus, and did AF Fine Adjustment, finally settling on -2 for the sharpest image. Kind of disappointed that I should have to do that with such an expensive lens! All that aside, this was a gread vid to view. Just wish I had watched it before shooting people instead of landscapes and birds for a change
@KobieMC
@KobieMC Ай бұрын
Unfortunately, with the way a DSLR is designed, there will always be a variance between the AF module and the lens when it comes to focus which is why there's an adjustment. There's tolerances for the AF module and the lens. For example, say the tolerance is 5% front/back focus for the AF module and 5% for the lens before needing adjustment. Well, if you get both a camera and lens that are both at that 5% tolerance, you're now looking at a 10% tolerance, so you'll need to adjust it to bring it back to that 5% tolerance level.

Couple of thoughts - would facial recognition work better if ‘Bodiless Bella’ had hair? I have no idea about how sophisticated the algorithm is but perhaps no hair is tricking it. Could newer lenses have faster communication with the camera? There is a brief window to communicate data to drive the focus system.
@KobieMC
@KobieMC 3 ай бұрын
It's possible I suppose. Regarding focus, the only thing newer lenses allow for is faster driving of the focus and quicker focus lock. The rest of the features wouldn't change (such as the subject recognition and eye detection). A larger aperture would help. I'm assuming that even something like the DA 35 2.4 or DA 50 1.8 would fare better than the 18-135 for eye detection (based on how the DA* 16-50 PLM nailed it each time at the 2.8 aperture).

I just tried the same test as yours using subject recognition, AF.S Sigma 85 @1.4, ISO4000, 1/80 and consistently got two focus points only and never more... one on each eye. It stayed true whether she was on the far left, centered, or high in the frame. My mannequin, Stiffanie, has hair, a possible difference. @@KobieMC

@@warrenmerrill532 LOVE the name you gave her! Aperture of the lens can also be a factor which is what I showed and mentioned between the 18-135 At F/5.6 and the 16-50 at F/2.8. 18-135 didn't do nearly as well as the 16-50.

Ah, gotcha. Well that migh make sense since the AF system is optimized for a 2.8 luminance flux from what I've read. @@KobieMC
