Outstanding video! Thanks for taking the time to discuss the settings for optimizing these! I preordered my Retroid Pocket 5 and can't wait to relive so many of my Gamecube and PS2 favorites! I'd love to see videos for both of those systems on the RP5 - Especially if you can highlight optimizations that include widescreen hacks to take advantage of the glorious 5.5" 1080p AMOLED display! A video meant to run PS2 games on RP Mini & RP5 via NetherSX2 but ended up useful for all SD865 / SD865+ / SD870-powered devices. I may consider getting the second-hand S20+ (SD variant) / S20FE / LG V60 since that phone still has a microSD slot just to put more PS2 games without disturbing the internal storage + Bluetooth controller.

Maaaaan what a beautiful showcase. I'm surprised at how well Gran Turismo 3 runs on this 865, my 8 gen 1 galaxy s22 ultra couldn't run it at native resolution! Great vid dad 👏

I'd say it give it a shot again! Make sure to use NetherSX2 (4248). If you're having real issues with it, change the hardware download mode option to "disable readbacks" which should help. 🤗 Always awesome to see you in the comments!

Great video. Too many other youtubers only tested or reviewed RP Mini with just 2x resolution, rather than the max resolution it can handle, so it's hard to get the true potential of RP Mini. It's too bad you didn't test Outrun 2006. As for Gran Turismo 3, based on my experience, OpenGL is the best renderer for it. No slowdown, no need to change hardware download mode, no graphical bug, but I capped it at 3x resolution using Odin 2 instead of 4x (using vulkan), so perhaps you can test it again for the next RP5 video?

What you should be excited for with the RP5 is Armbian. With Photon, Wine, Hangover, Fex-Emu, Box64, and Box86, we'll some PC Gaming with the ability to run both 32 and 64 bit applications.

It's better overall and more so depending on the game. We're also comfortably doing upscaling with quite a number of games using the SD 865. I'll say it's also much more efficient at handling PS2 emulation. It's good stuff all around! 🤗🔥

Would like to see rp5 or mini vs rp4 pro with similar settings. Most of the ps2 games I'm interested are unfortunately not on this list, being jrgps like dark cloud 2, rogue galaxy, star ocean 3, grandia 3, xenosaga, valkyrie profile 2, etc. But very nice thorough list all the same.

Great performance, but what would we expect with the bigger rp5 model? It does have 2 extra gigs of ram, but the screen is full hd instead of Hd, so if gta 3 runs now on 3x resolution, I would think it would play max 1x or 2x for rp5 due to more pixels? Im not sure if the extra ram does much in emulation. Idk if the fan on the smaller one is the same on the rp5.

This is almost definetly me not fully understanding the tech here, but if PS2 runs 480p native and a 2X upscale is 960p, and 960p is the resolution of the RP Mini screen, does that make a 3X upscale pointless? Or is this just done to showcase the performance for review?

100% accurate! The ideal upscaling here would be 2X as you said. Anything beyond that is just to showcase performance and isn’t really needed on a device like the Mini. 🙏

Just ordered one but I’m worried I’ve made a mistake by not getting the 5. I don’t like black bars either side of the display which is what I didn’t like about the RP4P. Do you think I should stick to the Mini? It’s hard to visualise how big the screen is. I’ll basically be playing n64 and at the most Wii.

The 4:3 image size on the Mini should be similar to a 4:3 image displayed on the RP4 Pro, that might help visualize it better?

Yet the Odin 2 mini can't run burnout 3/revenge without the framerate crippling after a wreck. Every option was supposed to fix it doesn't. I swear if I get my mini in and it's the same shit...

@@retrotechdad the latest builder 1.9. every time I wreck the game comes to a crawl in both games. I have it set to 3x resolution and using the settings suggested by the emulator. Tried disabling vsync, tried disabling the skip duplicate frames thing, tried overclocking, tried switching between Vulcan, and Open GL. No matter what, I wreck the frame rate cripples for a couple to a few seconds. I'm not even using compressed versions of the games either.

most should, sadly no one tests games with 60 fps cheats for some reason, id rather play at 1x with 60 fps than 2x or 3x 30
