At some point in our RV lives we are going to get stuck. Your situation happens more often and there are lessons to be learned and education to be shared. Everyone hates a "Monday Morning Quarterback", but to err o the side of safety I wanted to share with you some things to consider if this ever happens again. Please take a moment and look up the various YT videos from about a year ago documenting the fatal off road recovery in Kingman, AZ. Not exactly your case, but several similarities. It is important to keep in mind the physics in play when trying to "unstick" your rig. Not only are you trying to pull about 30,000+ lbs combined weight (Your truck, plus the trailer), but also the suction impact of the mud--plus--the weight of the recovery vehicle in front. My view of the recovery shows the tow rope attached to a point on the drop hitch of the recovery truck. You did mention the use of a kinetic rope--which is excellent--but again many people may not know what that is exactly. Also, any drop hitch (or any ball trailer hitch) is rated to pull and has an entirely different "shear" rating. In the case of the Kingman tragic recovery, the drop arm separated (sheared off) at the 90 and the kinetic force of the pull launched the drop hitch through the windshield of the stuck vehicle. The driver of the stuck vehicle was killed instantly. Not your situation exactly, but many watching your video could take away the wrong idea and concepts behind vehicle recovery. Again, I share this with you because the family of the fatality in Kingman has made several follow-up videos to help educate us all about how to--and how not to--do a safe recovery. Lastly, as you started the pull several family members were standing close to the vehicles--not a good idea. Recovering big rigs looks like it is easy and sometimes fun. That's what I thought until the Kingman story. I feel like a Debbie Downer, but I felt it appropriate to share this with you. Enjoy your travels and stay safe. SGF
@LessJunkMoreJourney8 ай бұрын
Thanks for your concern! We cleared everyone out of the way before Stewart started pulling Nathan out. The Rope use was a kinetic rope designed just for this type of application. The tow rope was no attached to the hitch, I know that’s hard to tell. We were not intending this to be any sort of “how to” video. Thank you for pointing those details out though!

This happened to me some years back. Couldn't get any traction. A neighbor down the road stopped by with a 4'x6' horse stall mat, it was cut down the middle, making two 2'x6' mats. Worked great, kept the trailer from sinking into the soft ground. I have seen the mats at Tractor supply store. As for the truck tires spinning, get a 2"x2" (2"X4" works too), and tie it to the outside tire of the dually tires with Tie Down Straps. It's the inside dually tires that has the brakes and other things, so no boards there. Sreach some YT video for this.

My truck is 4x4, but I also have the most aggressive tires I could get, a rear locker, a 12K winch, a kinetic strap, a come-along, a shovel, and 2x12x8 lumber with me. The order of importance. The 2x12s come first. $13 a piece an lay flat in the truck bed taking up no room, an have lots of uses including driving over an parking on. Then the come-along for pulling. Then the shovel to bury your spare or one of those boards as an anchor point for the come-along. Then my tires. Street tires are nice if your tires never touch dirt, but aggressive tires are worth having when this happens. Then a rear locker. That gives you more traction than 4x4. A 2x4 truck with a locker will out pull a 4x4 without lockers any day. Especially when you hook a 5th wheel to it. The strap is nice if you have a friend around. I have never used it. I have the winch because I am lazy an that come-along is work. An the 4 wheel drive is the least useful part of my setup. Its usually gets you in to more trouble than it gets you out of. It adds very little pulling power especially on street tires. And being as its the most expensive thing on the list, I could have done without it. It saves me from pulling out a winch cable once or twice a year, so its nice to have, just least important.

Old trucker tip: rather than pulling in a straight line, try to put some angle on the trailer. Example: a 45° angle will allow the truck to travel twice the distance relative to the trailer, effectively doubling the leverage/pull on it. I've freed up many stuck semitrailers by simply unhooking and reconnecting at a sharper (as much as 90°) angle. Works like a charm as long as you have the maneuvering room 😉
@gracieg76017 ай бұрын

Genuine RV newbie question here: when/if vehicles leave ruts in the grass, such as what happened to you and others as everyone was trying to leave the park in the beginning of the video, what, if anything, do you do about the ruts? Do you try to flatten or lessen the ruts? Or just leave them? I'm truly asking how to handle that situation. (Glad you were able to get out by the way!) Thanks in advance for sincere input. Happy 10th Birthday to Hensley!!! 🥳💕
