This video is both full of BS and helpful advice. The BS is the idea that merely following certain rules or concepts will make you a "strong" chess player; which is typical of KZbin click-bait. That's what all of these teachers like Igor want you to believe so you will keep coming back for more. For sure, you first need to learn the basic rules and concepts. But what actually determines your prowess is how quickly you can think and analyze (many moves ahead) all of the possibilities that are available to you in any particular situation; along with all of possibilities that are available to your opponent. And then wisely use those rules, concepts and possibilities to create a smart, cohesive plan that doesn't include any blunders. And then continue to wisely use them as new possibilities crop up as the game progresses. So what you really need to become a strong chess player is to improve your brainpower. Just watching videos like this won't do it. The helpful advice is showing that IF (and that's a big "if") you have such capability and can quickly formulate a great set of moves, then you can turn around what appears to be a bad situation and pull out a win, or at least create a great advantage.

- Identify counterattacking moves instead of just defending to advance your gameplay. 0:57 - Consider intermediate moves that your opponent might overlook to outsmart them. 2:08 - Use the concept of counterattacks and intermediate moves together for strategic advantage. 2:29 - When in a challenging position, look for moves that offer dual threats or escape paths. 3:42 - Always search for additional intermediate and counterattacking moves before deciding on an obvious recapture. 4:45 - Think about how to parry immediate threats while setting up future counterattacks. 5:17 - Practice finding counterblows and intermediate moves in different situations to enhance your strategic thinking in chess. 6:11

Id go NxE2 if forcing either queen trades then rook trades leaving your rook on open file or if he moves his QxE5 attacking bishop QxC8 RxC8 RxC8 ✓ king moves BxE3 trading your queen for both his rooks for a positive gain. I wouldnt trade a bishop for a knight as most people here suggest if theres another option as this game is already pretty open and bishops are stronger than knights in an open game.

Can you create a video on the crab opening? It is a very underrated opening for white where white plays a4 and h4 then e3,d3nd2,be2 then when he castles you push g4 and play b3 and fianchetto your bishop for a strong attack.
Instead of 3. Qd3 white plays 3. Qxc8 Rxc8 4 Rxc8+ and black can't recapture because Ne7+ picks up the Q and white is a rook up. I believe blacks best move after 2. Nxd5 is to play Qd6 defending his B. The material will be 2 Rs and a N vs. Q and B which should be a slight advantage to white, if he can coordinate his pieces, but may not be enough to win.
Clarity wins chess, not confidence, but competence born out of clarity.

I am seeing Bxf6. If Black play Qxf6, White follows with Nxd5. He threatens to take the queen with check. Black should respond with Qe6. (Qe5 fails because White can play Qxc8, and if Black plays Rxc8, White plays Rxc8+, gaining both rooks for the queen.)

@raselju7 ай бұрын
Another great video lesson! Thanks Igor. To solution of the puzzle, to my opinion, is - 1. Bxf6 -- The obvious response should be Qxf6 2. Nxd5 forking the bishop and the queen. If the rook takes the queen, the night takes the black queen with check first, then capture the rook. If queen moves to elsewhere, Queen takes the rook will win 2 rooks with check and then grab the bishop. This will ensure way more material than the queen and thus win. If queen moves to e6 to support the rook, then the queen will move towards the square to support the knight and thus have a little advantage.
@nicholassapp65427 ай бұрын
Do that and you gain a pawn, but trade a bishop for a knight in an open game where bishops are stronger than knights generally and leave your knight susceptible to a pin with RxD8 pinning the knight to the queen which is almost guaranteed to be lost (This is supposing QxE6 to support the rook) then white QxD3 to get to safety and support knight)
@slsw897 ай бұрын
In the first example.. Ne4 - SACRIFICE THE QUEEEN!!!, if Bxd8 then Bxf2#. If white doesn't fall for the trap, and instead Nxe4, then.. you're down a knight.. but hey, it was cool while it lasted? What ELO would that be?
@slsw897 ай бұрын
Even with f6, Bxf6, Black recaptures with either Qxf6 or gxf6 and then White Nxc5. White is still up a knight (and a pawn) right? Both are down the dark squared bishop
@DarchrowTheEnigma7 ай бұрын
The final example is really interesting.. As a beginner I could not see anything good comes for Black after the move; 1. Bg4 takes Kf6 2. Qd4 takes Bf6 3. Kc3 takes D5 4. Qf6 move to Qc6 (offering Queen Trade) At the end of this sequence, Black will down a piece or did I miscalculate.. Anyway I couldn't see any other variations for Black because if after 2. Kc3 takes D5 - Black goes 4. Rxc2, White will have a tempo advantage by taking the Black Queen with check. Then loses a Rook. Wow.. interesting position.
