White belt here. Haha, I wish I saw this video before I hyperextended my elbow 6 weeks ago. I was stretching while kids were wrestling before the adult BJJ class. I had a hand down on the mat and got cleaned out when one kid got a double-leg on another kid. I should have known to never have my back toward the mat, especially during sparring. Before this incident, I never thought I could get seriously injured outside of rolling. This is an important video for newbies like myself!

We had a great high school wrestler break both arms and take him out for over a year sitting like this when I was a kid! Great points hope everyone takes it seriously

I’ve always had that idea about my elbows being vulnerable while sitting like that. But this is the first time I’ve heard it verbalized. Good tip!

Great topic! Also NEVER keep your legs extended outward. Especially towards the action.

It’s to bad they don’t cover MRSA. I got this from grappling and am stuck with this reoccurring disease. Antibiotics has only managed to control it until another flare up. I’m hoping the dermatologist will help me get rid of it forever soon.

The first rule is made redundant by the second

He said a gym CULTURE. It merely Promotes sitting on the wall. So for people who aren't yet in the culture( ie white belts) there is rule 1... No redundancy needed.

Dosen't that mean "sparring" is inherently dangerous bc you spend 30% of the rolling posting with an extended arm.

Another issue is when people watch from the edge of the mat, but instead of watching the action, they get caught up in a side conversation with someone else taking their attention away from what's happening on the mat. Whenever these people get hit by people sparring, they always flip out with a, "Watch your space." comment. No, if you are anywhere on the mat, it is your responsibility to pay attention to avoid impacts from people training.

In my 13 years of training I have never heard this before
@prandz4202 жыл бұрын
Nah it’s also the responsibility of people rolling not to smash into walls, people, concrete and other people rolling. Dumb attitude for you to have
@pixelcultmedia42522 жыл бұрын
@@Cvntslapper Seriously? You've never had two people jawing on the sideline not paying attention and then somebody rolls into them and they act like they were owed talking space on the mat?
@pixelcultmedia42522 жыл бұрын
@@prandz420 That makes no sense. So the two people fixated on fighting each other are expected to be more spacial aware than the guy on the sideline doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, but talking to random people and ignoring what's happening on the mat. A mat is a dynamic active area. Anybody who steps onto it needs to be alert and aware.
@prandz4202 жыл бұрын
Pixel Cult Media yes because if you smash into 2 other people who are rolling then who’s fault is it? 😂 Your logic is totally stupid. We are here for safe training not deathmatches where everything else is blocked out. It really isn’t hard to pay attention to your surroundings while you roll and it’s an absolute must if you are training takedowns. You aren’t the centre of the universe.

For sure the most dangerous part of bjj is not the bjj. I know a dude in judo whose foot was broken (folded in half) by OTHER dudes falling on it.
