Both ladies were terrific. My first time seeing jessie J who is lovely and obviously a great performer - her stage presence was super. However, I am admittedly beguiled by Sohyang and she treated Whitney's song respectfully, but did her own arrangement. Just captivating. AND, if I may say so, she looked absolutely gorgeous for this appearance. Thanks for this video - it was very interesting. Cheers.

Jessie definitely had better annunciation, lower range and cleaner longer held runs. I hate it when ppl put one singer above another just because they sang a higher pitch which is what sohyang did, she just sang constantly on a higher note.

After that, I got offers from several famous major agencies in the United States, but I turned them down. The reason Sohyang refused was because she wanted to sing for God rather than wealth and fame. Sohyang served as a professor of practical music at a Korean university, educating students, and sang back and forth between Korean and American churches.

Thank you for not doing a comparison video of these Two Amazing Performers! They each have there own styles and Amazing voices! My favourite is SoHyang but That is just personal taste and I love so much of Jessie J’s music and would not enjoy anyone putting her down in anyway to put SoHyang on Top! Jessie j sang way more technically, she held clearer and cleaner belts from low to high, sohyang sang beautifully but technically better? No. She was just belting at a higher range for longer and just going high-higher-high-very high which is super impressive but jessie can also do that and that doesn't show you who is overall better. Jessie j won on technicality but most ppl just love listening to constant high belting.

I'm nowhere near being an expert, so I'll just give what I (pretend to) know. Technicality-wise, I would say the two approach their high notes differently. Jessie J remains in her belt-ish, chestier mix texture up until the top part of her middle voice, while Sohyang slides further into a more headier mix - which is why she is able to retain that middle voice coordination further up. If SOLELY judging from this perspective, then Sohyang's technique would be more comprehensive. But I have to applaud her, her throat space remains fairly open even at the topmost part of her range - 11:17 is the most beautiful A-flat 5 mixed voice I've heard so far. (Btw, female singers sometimes approach those highest middle-register notes with a seemingly squeezed sensation. I'm still wondering if that's unnecessary tension, or more blending with a specific register which lies about normal head voice. I see some call it flageolet, which is characterised by its squeaky nature. I tend to believe it's the latter. Again, not everyone prefers that sound texture.) I suppose the two had training from different teachers, so their approaches to high notes may differ. In the end, it really comes down to each person's preference - if you like to hear those stress-relieving strong belts, or a more well-blended voice with a few additional notes on top (which, some people don't like the texture of that much nasal resonance). One more thing, Jessie J's voice is naturally huskier and darker, which resembles that of Whitney Houston's more than Sohyang, whereas Sohyang may have an easier time hitting the high notes because her voice is naturally lighter. Which may lead to people picking sides again, because this is originally a Whitney song and they may want to find that nostalgic warmth in Whitney's voice. Enough ranting from me, let's just enjoy both performances :)
