i have heard of a few people grinding the lips off the kx crank seals so they can install the seal without splitting the case seems like kawasaki had a silly design the honda and a few other brands are easy to remove i guess the lip really just tells you how deep to go and doesnt really stop the seal falling out otherwise it could always fall back in towards the bearing if it was going to move!

The Springs on the Seals are Called Garter Springs as for the seal or Lip seals. Just Remember the Application that your Using it for the lip of the Seal always Faces towards the Pressure side .

So the lip of the seal is the opposite side of the spring? The lip side is the flat side with the writing on it?

@10:05 you explained that you thought the seal was in backwards because "the spring usually resides on the oil side". But the right engine cover is the side with the oil...

I would think all right side crank seal would face with the spring out then, asking because i'm trying to figure out which was to install mine on a 1999 kdx200.
