Karting brought 2strokes further in development than any other sport especially with carburetors and expansion chambers. Back in the early 70s we tried a Lake fuel injector but absolutely no gain over a carburetor. The best carb I ever used was a modified Mikuni, it was called a Culverator. Culver was the company.

@@kerrykelaher2607 no, it didn’t. You’re right to use more oil. More revs, more oil. Recall reading somewhere that the amount of oil needed is roughly proportional to how fast you’re turning an engine. What’s “ok” for, say, 5500 (32 to 1) is grossly inadequate for twice that - much less nearly four times that. Hence, 10 to one - a figure I recall reading about in at least one book on kart engines - is not out of place. What might be strange is the idea of “model airplane RPMs (20,000 or higher) want model airplane oil ratios” - e.g. 3 parts fuel, one part oil. Then again, those often have bushings rather than ball, roller, or needle bearings - which is where the design of the engine plays into oil needs.

Hello! If you don't mind sharing a link to a community where i could ask about some more about these engines. I have an old mik 360 l(at least i hope i do, but it's a liquid cooled one in any case) with a tillotson carb, and can't manage to get him running how he should. Mid to high rpms he simply takes my breath away, literally, but when i try to push start, he always bogs down but then very very slowly creeps up to an almost normal state, then when i'm finallly reaching those peak rpms, he completely dies on me. After we slow down a bit, back into the mid range, he comes back to life.

Does it smoke much out of the Exhaust? Then it,s running to rich. When you got nearly no smoke on the exhaust and you hear a metallic sound your engine is to lean and you need to adjust the carb. when adjusting dont help you need to get a new carv gasket or you need a new carb like me because it somewhere sucks air and dont work. I had the same problem With my tuned TKM s89T Rotary valve engine now i got a new 27mm Italsystem carb on it now its running and revs to 20.000rpm love that engine.
