Incredible demonstration of 2-stroke single-piston combustion motor. The builder is incredible. He built a combustion chamber out of transparent plexiglass and made it work. It is amazing how fast the piston is moving inside the transparent cylinder. I have a greater appreciation of combustion engines and how it has to work to generate power and torque.

Nice, I had a simson s51 when I was 16 back in 1987. East German moped. £500 on the road a Japanese moped was about £800 new. Crude but faster than the Japanese peds, there was a restriction in the exhaust header. I replaced it with one from a larger capacity mz can't remember which but I used to give 2 mates a lift out of town, 3 up no problem out on country roads. Good times 😆

Glass at that thickness would be plenty strong enough. It's the heat cycling that would be an issue. The warm up procedure would be obnoxious and forming the jug to the proper dimensions would be prohibitively expensive. But it could work. Your average KZbinr wouldn't have the resources to pull it off though.

I think you know whats to do next: Drill the size of cylinder bigger in diameter and insert a glas tube correspondingly. And of course holes for the ports need to be machined to the glaszylinder at the right positions as well. Maybe the glastube may come out of a very cold fridge and shrink fit into the slightly warmed cylinder with the increased diameter. (But first of all i would go to a glasmaker and tell him about my idea, he will have further advice. Maybe supply of chemical firms as well may know more about glas cylinders with best most precise cylindrical inner bore.) And you could try to insert a camera sideways into a newly made camera bore in the cylinder or head as well - to try to make clearer close up fotos in slowmo. Thank you for sharing!

Using a basic tempered glass sleeve that you make have vertical and horizontal grooves in it will allow for it to survive the heat issues for longer, especially if you can cool around it with clear fluid. I think the horizontal might be perfect for a pump that you have for holes around those areas, that go with the piston movement. You would be able to pump fluid to the sides and use basic air cooling with some glass fins. You would need to make it thick enough, the sleeve, but also have it have something of a curve or bend to stick into the head and a bottom separate part to be able to have it stay put. So you could have cooling, a less expanding and higher friction clear part, it will heavily rely on the tempered glass thickness and the sizing of all the grooves. It would last much longer and maybe even be a viable 2 stroke engine.

Cool, don't you love it when it comes out how you designed it to do. That slow motion footage of the combustion process is neat. Is that acrylic you used for the combustion chamber and head? Isn't that the only transparent material tough enough to take the pressure and heat? It looked like the aluminum piston had melted there for a second but it was just the acrylic melting some or scratching and the exhaust port that made it look that way.
