2 Stroke Racing Go Kart Top Speed!

In this video we finally get to have some fun hooning our racing go kart. We spent time installing a smaller sprocket as well as installing a tuned expansion pipe specifically for top speed on our go cart.

That clutch is slipping WAY too much and is not engaging like it should be. It probably needs new disks if it's been adjusted like that for who knows how long. Try adjusting it and make another run...and check the clutch fluid level, too. It's likely burned up. And, the gearing can go much lower in tooth count. When I raced a Yamaha KT100 at the TKC sprint track we ran a 9T clutch gear with 69T - 74T rear gear. Check your gear ratio....there's so much more potential for that kart to run right.

Couldn't tgat be lighter components in the cluch after all it is a centrifugal cluch so less weight means is gunna take more revs to engage it.

If you ever find a Polaris Trail Boss 250cc 2 stroke on Craigslist or the like, buy it-they make from 25-30hp stock, and have a clutch that's perfect for go carts, FWD Neutral Reverse gearbox and a belt driven torque converter clutch. Geared right, 100 mph+, I have bought 2 of them for less than $300 each.

I dont think you're talking about kt100, theyve never been that fast. There are other classes, and you're likely talking about X30 or some other water cooled class, which can still go that fast.

Kt100s never have been that fast. But it defiantly is having issues with the clutch as a kt with a can can go around 70 mph

HATE those wet clutches, always a pain in the ass. Why I went to a shifter - NO clutch or chain problems with minimal maintenance compared to the wet.

I’m kinda surprised on the sprocket size. On faster tracks we normally run a 77. But this build looks awesome. I’d love to see a video where you guys take it to a real race track and have a little competition.

For top speed, you gotta sort the carb and clutch tuning setup first. Sounds rich on top end, and the temp gage reading 263F is WAY too cold, implying rich as shit.. that is why it is not hitting top rpm, just burbling and breaking up. The Clutch should be set to engage at the rpm torque peak of the motor (for racing) or lower (to save clutch wear and tear). Also to get to the ultimate top end speed you need a larger clutch sprocket.

Cool video but I would have liked to have seen the kart fly by wide open. Every time the kart came close to the camera he was slowing down. Never did get to see it wide open I don't think. Did the clutch take a beating on those runs?

Am wondering how fast it could go using the kt100 engine on a bike like those motorized bicycle kits, definitely a lot faster than a 212cc predator engine, maybe you guys could try it ? Either way, you make great videos and wishing you many years of safe and fun riding

Sprocket is still waaaay too big for top speed. Carsandcameras used a 15 tooth to hit 70. I feel like a 50-40 would give a good mix of acceleration and top speed. Sounds like its running good tho! Badass lil kart

An old 100 kart will never do 90. Rotax snr max 125cc karts will just about do 80, maybe 85.

Its an old kart with no gear box. A new shifter kart in the 100 to 125 cc range wont do 90 downhill with a tail wind. You obviously don't know what you're talking about, and if you have a 200 or 250 cc race kart that can do 90 that's understandable but considering you are deaf and didn't hear the multiple times they said "old 100cc kart" you don't know anything.

@@TeethRider twith the gears they have, 83T smallest rear gear... and assuming they have 11T clutch drum usually raced on such 100cc KT100 Sprint Karts (small tracks with straights 500 - 700ft long) ... top speed will be about 60mph ... they did not hit that, because the engine was running rough on top .. carb needs to be dialed in to reach peak rpm. That said .. a stock well prepared KT100 engine on a Sprint Sit-up geared for a road track (ie Daytona) will hit about 80mph, and on a laydown enduro chassis 100mph is typical. These are REAL speeds, not inflated racer exaggerations. KT100 engines are still raced today, it is the most popular kart engine of all time.. some 40 years in production, still "new" not old, a good bang for the buck. As for gearbox kart engines they are highly developed just like Grand Prix motorcycle engines ... 125cc about 45hp, and 250cc at 90hp. .... with top speeds of at least 110mph and 145mph respectively .. FYI - 250cc gearbox SuperKarts match Formula Atlantic car times at many major race tracks.

For extreme high speed, use a 53 tooth sprocket with a torque converter. That's what's on mine, except I'm running a degoverned predator 212 with a 34mm carb.

Try putting the low end pipe on it with the smaller sprocket and see if it get a all around better power band instead of goin all one direction with the power

There is way more on the table for this kart. I used to race these and I could have got 50+ mph with ease using a low end pipe and geared for the corners. Try leaning out the high side and let the RPM'S sing

Clutch over slipping engine tuning isn't right and the engine probably needs freshend up and gopower sports should be able to help with that that's a Dxl horstman witch is adjustable but it's too late love the videos keep making them

Man, when I raced using 5hp Briggs, I would've killed that 2 stroke. But it was punched 80 over, had racing cam, two fuel pumps for the alcohol, straight pipe, unbreakable rod, special head, valves, ect. Top speed was 112. The engine builder knee his craft well. We even put a flywheel off of a 3.5 H. P. Engine for torque for the short dirt tracks. Damn thing sounded like a small block Chevy. Long story short, back then I wanted to put a cr 80 2 stroke on one with the six speed. Ofcoase stock was sheer blastphomy, nothing was ever stock. Yes an 80cc is small, but I was only 11 years old. Yea my old 5hp Briggs would have killed that 2 stroke. Get the clutch fixed, use proper gas ratio, go a little lean, shave the head a cunt hair, bore it 60 over and so a few other things to the carb. That thing isn't close to it's potential.

Never run a fuel filter on a two stroke it separates the gas from the oil and it will blow up

Kristhe: 40 years of kart racing experience .. and I have never seen that happen ... the appropriate oil mixes with the fuel, a filter can not separate it .. unless the oil selected does not mix with the fuel, if that happens, yes you may stick your motor.. but that is an oil issue, nothing to do with filter. All that said .. my racing experience says to NOT run an inline filter, because it's something that could break or leak .. and there is a filter in most kart racing carbs already.
