Thanks for the great videos. I appreciate your attention to detail and the clear and concise way you present it. I also admire the fact that you live in Japan and have sniffed out some great dirt biking. I lived there for several years, and although I didn't dirt bike I spent a lot of time finding places to do the things I was passionate about. Arrigato gozaimasu!

I rode the bike today for the first time after repacking the silencer. Much quieter. Well worth doing as part of regular maintenance, probably every 40~50H

Tokyo Offroad was it making a “tinny” sound. I jus straightened my pipe and put it back on and used high temp silicone at cylinder and where it meets the silencer but now it Sounds a bit tinny? Any suggestions? I’m pretty confident it’s properly seated at the header but it wasn’t before I straightened it. My thoughts are it might be taking in air where it meets silencer, or because the petrol has now been in for nearly 4 weeks

Another good video ! How many hours was the old isolation in the silencer ?

I repacked my stock silencer for the first time and a lot of the holes were blocked up. So I got the right size drill bit and drilled every single hole out again. It took ages

Just a suggestion for better sound and packing integrity, probably best not to tape to tight you normally want ime the lacking to fit but fit tight enough to seat to the external can, ai like it tight, still easy to fit with a few more steps in terms of inserting it back into the can but it’s just a few hand shuffles, just my experience anyways same can. Cheers good vid. Was wondering when you were going to do yours, bike is sounding great though on the last vid too btw.

MaverickDH - The instructions provided with the FMF 2-stroke packing state: “NOTE - Once you bring the motor up to operating temperature, the masking tape will burn off allowing the blanket to fully expand. When cut to the appropriate length, the blanket will fill any voids inside the canister.” So based on this the tape wrap tightness should only impact the noise level until the engine reaches operating temp and the tape releases.

Tokyo Offroad ahh fair enough, you are right, just thats the way I seen it done and followed it on the past fro FMF vid, still use tape as well but a paper tape, either works.🤙

does anyone ever get spooge leaking from the pipe/silencer area and/or out of the end of the silencer? my 23 150 xcw just started doing that with the fmf turbine core 2.1, took the silencer apart after 20 hours, looks like they use 2 types of packing on the originals but can only buy 1 type of packing, fmf said that was true but failed to give me any type of reason why.
@TokyoOffroad Жыл бұрын
Spooge may be excessive if the bike is running over rich, or the engine rpm kept low for a long period of time to the engine temp is low. The 2-stroke oil type and mixing ratio may also play a part in the amount of spooge. Spooge can leak from the following areas: 1) Engine exhaust manifold- check the expansion chamber pipe fit into the manifold (pipe may be bent) and replace o-rings if necessary; 2) Pipe to silencer joint- the stock KTM rubber joint cover usually works well, replace if damaged; 3) The silencer end caps- seal with sealant as shown in the video.

Yes, significantly quieter. It’s quick and easy to do so as soon as the exhaust starts getting a bit raspy I change the packing.

Was it not a little lose?
@TokyoOffroad5 жыл бұрын
You don't actually want to pack it super tight as the fiberglass will become compressed and the pipe will be noisier if you do.

That stuff you sprayed on it can i use anything else
@TokyoOffroad6 жыл бұрын
I used a parts cleaner spray (brake cleaner). Kerosene would probably work quite well to clean it up too.

What packing did you use

It’s FMF 2-stroke packing
@mirri68466 жыл бұрын
why my packing is inside the muffler and i cant get it out? And its not worn out or anything.
@TokyoOffroad6 жыл бұрын
Mirri - The packing in a 2-stroke silencer gets soaked in oil and may get stuck to the core. Once the packing is soaked in oil the silencer will become much louder. It’s a good idea to repack them regularly even if the packing doesn’t look worn out.

I'm afraid it won't last long. Packing is too little/loose.
@TokyoOffroad7 жыл бұрын
Shahfiee Bamadhj - Yes, I’m thinking the same. It still sounds fine now after 5 Days riding. But I wonder why FMF don’t provide a little more packing in the kit so it fills the canister a little more. There was quite a bit more of the original packing. Might try a different brand of packing next time.

Oic.. maybe the packing quality fmf provides is a better one. Who knows. Anw, great video. Cheers.

Tokyo Offroad you can use two or one and a half sheets of pacing material to fill it up nicely, right? ☺️
@mattipoysti6 жыл бұрын
And I like to use metal wool as the bottom layer, but im not sure if it works with the two stroke..
@jessejarzabski50764 жыл бұрын
I dont think u got the right packing specific to that silencer due to the amount being waay less than it should...you should be stuffing it in really tight once wrapped....the amount u have on is to loose and is not goin to last plus you put the tape on waaay to tight in which will even make the fit looser...that packing looked extremley poor quality if your running an fmf silencer id highly recommend jusy using the fmf packing as well its still cheap at around 10 bucks us a on ebay or amazon and its well worth the dollar or 2 more than the cheap stuff...and just curious how long it took to rattle around and sound like crap after u installed this packing.....
@TokyoOffroad4 жыл бұрын
I'm really not a fan of the FMF packing kit. It's completely different to what they use when they build the silencers. I currently use Acousta Fil which I have found to perform and last much better. I should make an updated video...
@eyalcr5006 жыл бұрын
no you don't do it like that !!! you should have put more insulating material, then it will also last longer AND be more quiet a bit... never mind,you'll learn with time ;)
@TokyoOffroad6 жыл бұрын
I used all the packing supplied in the FMF kit. I did not decide how much, or little to use, I used it all. Buying more than one repacking kit for a small silencer like this seems crazy. And yes, the FMF packing doesn't last long and as such was the first and last time I used it. Recently I've been using Acousta-fil which is a woven mat and I've found to last longer, stay quiet longer and is widely available here in Japan.

@The00MOFO2 жыл бұрын
@@eyalcr500 you don't pack it tight or the sound has nowhere to be absorbed and heads straight out the tail pipe. a 2 stroke muffler takes one roll of insulation you just cut to length depending on which silencer you're using

@TokyoOffroad5 жыл бұрын
DiggersWA - packing in tight will typically make the silencer louder and as such is not recommended.
