Thanx Tyler. Its cool you still fish ponds. Me too, I test lures alot in a pond and if I don't feel like dragging the boat out and just want to set the hook, to the pond I go. Best pond lure is a neko worm for me.

Its getting cold here in Wisconsin. My ten year old son and I have been killing it with the Texas rig and Yamamoto Senco. They just work. Every time. This is a high pressure public bank and everyone around us is constantly swapping baits. We get just as many fish as them and definitely the bigger fish. My son caught his personal best small mouth on Friday last week and then again on Saturday. Both at night in the dark and both with the Texas rig. 4.4 pounder Friday and 5 on Saturday. I wish we could share photos here in the comments. You are 100% right about the depth. We moved down river from our usual spot to the deeper water and its working.

My favorite shakey head is a zman smh worm paired with an smh head. I LOVE how durable it is! The head also comes through mud and grass super well because of its conical shape. Give it a try!

I live in southeastern Ohio where I can see WV straight across the Ohio River from where I live but I fish where bluegill and crawfish are the main forage and sometimes I struggle with if I should use like shad color baits because of no shad where I fish. You should do a video on that Tyler

Its all about temperature layers or 'thermoclines' in stillwater bodies. In winter fish will try to find warmer layers or warm spots in a lake or pond. In cold weather the top layers get chilled by the wind and lower night time temperatures. A warmer more stable layer will form in mid-water all the way down to a few inches from the bottom. Cold water like cold air falls down so a cold layer forms close to the bottom. Fish will suspend barely moving or slowly cruise around in midwater or a few inches off bottom. Other factors like patches of rotting bottom weed, sunshine and wind are other factors to account for. Rotting vegetation creates warmth so fish may hang around close to summer weed beds even in winter. On sunny winter days the top layers of shallow ponds warm up quicker and draw fish into the upper layers. On the other hand. Strong cold winds chill the upper layers and intermix the layers in shallow lakes and ponds. Winter rain or snow can rapidly drop the water temperature and the influx of cold water drops to the bottom and forms a thicker layer of cold water on the bottom forcing the fish to loiter in mid-water away from the bottom. Fish will also 'follow' a warm wind and avoid cold winds in lakes and ponds that are less than 8ft deep. If you can find a bank with a warmer wind in your face you may find the fish their too. Dropshotting and slow falling baits help you target the layers. Suspending or slow sinking crankbaits work well too. The predators will be in deeper areas seeking warmer water layers and cover in the clearer winter bodies of water but they will move to different areas and layers based on the factors I mentioned above.

Tyler, what about a Ned style bait on the back of a jig in the Winter? Maybe a ZMan Finesse TRD? Ever try that?

Fishing from the bank in the winter when it’s cold out, the water is muddy and higher than normal, what is it with these conditions that you find it more difficult to catch bass.

Unfortunately, I'm a bank / dock Fisher, I'm not a professional so I don't consider myself an "Angler", but, in all honesty Bass fishing from the bank, in S.E. Ohio is almost impossible. I need a fishing kayak so bad, but, as a disabled person on a set income, a fishing kayak might as well be a Unicorn. :(

Hey man, need advice. For like a month straight I was having massive success on a swim jig. I was pulling 3-5 bass per hour out and having an awesome time! Last 2 weeks I've been out I can't find a bite! Not on the jig, not on anything else I try. I was having so much fun consistently getting good days, and now I've been feeling sad that those days are gone :( Is there anything you think can affect my game? Like am I hiring that spot too much? Now all the fish have seen my jig?

Side note, I was doing really well all year on various rigs depending on the season. Carolina pulled me amazing summer days, and early fall was carried by the wacky rig and swim jig. But this is the first month of the year I'm NOT catching and its really making me sad

@@mikeandrade586I've been having good luck with swim baits lately. I have noticed that a super slow retrieve is working the best and also giving the bait a break now and then leaving it sit without movement. You may also try to downsize your bait and try something smaller and see if that helps. This time of year can be slow and changes each day. I went out last Saturday and caught 26 large mouth in one day which is my all time best. Went back the next day and caught just 2. Went out yesterday and caught 10 also nabbing a 5 pounder PB. So don't give up, I will say I have an app called bass forecast that gives you a rating for your area everyday. I was very skeptical about it at first but after using it for a few months it seems to be very accurate as far as when it gives a high rating I catch more fish, days with low rating I catch much less.
