On the bread warmer, my mother, and then I, always put a little water in the pan, then put the inside pan with the rolls in it inside the outer pan…the water gets hot and causes steam to keep the bread or rolls hot. If you don’t put water inside the outer pan, it would eventually burn even on low heat. Is that how the one you have is used? I thought it might be different then the one I have. I love antique and vintage kitchen things. Thanks for showing yours.

Pat, I love vintage/antique anything! I love your egg cooker especially. My mom and I loved antique malls & collecting. I have a set of pink Hazel Atlas Crinoline dishes. My grandmother collected them when my mom was a girl. She got pieces from either laundry detergent or oatmeal (I have forgotten which one). I have a service for 24, because I kept finding more pieces. I love the history behind items & am glad to learn from someone that knows so much about them. I am going to have to binge watch your videos & catch up. Thank you for posting!

You are very fun and informative. Well, it is official, I have too many things. I have the square cake keeper in copper, the pie taker, egg cups, a similar ice bucket, the waterless 6 quart covered soup pan, and a more modern stainless egg cooker. I had no idea they made the ceramic electric egg cookers in the 30s. Now, the trick to delicious flaky pie crust. Use your regular flour, salt, shortening, and water in a cup of ice. However, after you fill your measuring cup with ice. You then fill 1/4 of the cup with white vinegar and then fill the liquid measuring cup the rest of the way with water. Set aside. Cut your shortening into your flour and salt until the size of small peas. Then sprinkle the level tablespoonful of ice water over your flour mixture, moving the moistened portion aside, and continue until the flour forms a ball. Do not overwork. Sprinkle a flat, clean surface with a small amount of flour. Form 2 loose balls, sprinkling a little flour over the top. Roll out each of your pie crust to about 2 inches bigger than your pie pan. Fit in your pie pan, crimp your edge after folding a small amount of your pie crust under on the edge of the pie. Bake blind after using a fork and poking holes all over the unbaked pie crust at 425 degrees until lightly browned, or fill pie with a mixture to be cooked and baked as your recipe requires. This will make a 2 crust pie or 2, single crust pies. My recipe is 2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon salt stirred together, 2/3 of a cup of crisco shortening cut in. Then 6 to 7 tablespoons of ice and vinegar water mixture until moistened. The vinegar keeps the protein in the flour from developing and making your crust tough. It is science. Because of this, your crust is much more forgiving if you use a little more water or happen to overwork the dough. I bake 6 to 8 pies at a time. I bake a bunch.
@chitchatwithgrannypat7900 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the recipe. I will keep it handy. Living alone, I don’t do much baking. I’m already fat enough. And I love sweets.

They had much better items back then , I own a mint penguin ice buck that I never used and I absolutely love it. I got it on eBay many years ago and it came with the original paperwork showing the different things you can use it for with pictures, ice of course , salad and hot soups. But it’s beautiful and shiny and I just have it setting out in my kitchen and one day I just might use it for ice when I have a few friends over for drinks. I also got a wonderful GE pot belly coffee percolator that makes a wonderful coffee. Today it’s all junk. Our American companies have betrayed Us by outsourcing to China and it’s all junk. Hold onto anything that you have from back then and enjoy them…..I love your videos and thank you ! …Brian

When I buy a antique or vintage kitchen piece, I love to find out the name of the person who owned it, if possible, so I can think about that person and what their life might have been like when they were using that piece. I am 75 and have been collecting kitchen items since I was a little girl. I love owning and using them. Thanks again!

I also enjoy vintage kitchen collectibles and I own a number of these type of items. I have a two similar bun warmers that I use all the time. I also have several vintage ice buckets that we enjoy using. Not long ago, when I remodeled my kitchen, I donated a good many of my vintage cake carriers to Goodwill but I did keep two of the Tupperware carriers because they were my favorite ones. I have a good many vintage Pyrex items- casserole dishes, covered refrigerator dishes and several mixing bowls. I also have lots of vintage cast iron that I use all the time. Thanks, but my knowledge is very minimal because I don’t specialize in any certain item. My main interest is the things I remember as a child that my mother may have used. Especially the kitcheny things. The metal items are mostly ‘Kitchen Kraft’ made in the early 1950s.

Enjoyed your kitchen collection; by the way, I cked on Google & I can get a 2 slice Rowlett toaster for $150. But I take after my mother who could stretch her money a long way. So I will use my toaster oven which makes good toast. I had a regular new toaster but I donated it to a family at church who needed one.
@chitchatwithgrannypat7900 Жыл бұрын
If my Rowlett toaster hadn’t been a gift, it wouldn’t be sitting in my kitchen. I use it every day. I was in London, England. I wandered into the famous SELFRIDGE’S store (PBS TV series) to see if they carried the Rowlett toaster. Nope! It wasn’t there.

Please tell me about the crock style pitcher behind you on the cabinet top. The grey/blue one sitting on the corner. We have an identical one from my Grandma, but don’t know anything about it.
@chitchatwithgrannypat79002 жыл бұрын
Marilyn, so sorry I didn’t respond to your question. I have given the pitcher some thought and the one beside the red pitcher is actually yellow ware and has two green cow on each side. I know it was also made in blue and gray. My mother ordered the pitcher from Sears-Roebuck catalog in 1921. It is now 101 years old. We called it the lemonade pitcher because every summer she used it for making lemonade when we would picnic in our back yard. Wish I could be of more help.
