2 way radios, GMRS and FRS signals and what to look for (Cobra)

I remember when those yellow ones came out. They were around $20 at Walmart. Was a great way into FRS at the time, when most single radios were over $50.

The yellow ones where brand new in a package but the plastic antenna part was brittle and broke. They still work fine though

times have changed my radio's set me back 150.00 and I payed 250.00 for the base radio it does 45 watts I am in on 6 repeters in 5 city's and it does need a license for 35,00 thats 735.00 ham radio is about the same cost

I bought a set of these and left them sealed in my faraday cage, with a solar powered batterie pack also sealed and unopened. I hope they’re worth it. Good vid Bro!

The channels pass 22 are just the same channels just with the ctcss or dcs tones pre set no repeater input frequencys

Well I have another video up about these radios, I was wrong on them. They only have 22 channels but the extra channels are what they call privacy channels. These radios have CTCSS and DCS that you can set so you don't hear anyone else on the channel. Beyond channel 22 is preset privacy.

That's because it turns off the squelch so that you can hear the far off signals

all family service radios have no range button thay all operate at 1/2 watt each he read something wrong gmrs is long I can talk 20 miles through several repeters SO I am licensed M call sign is w r x n 8 2 4

Because channels 8 to 14 are programmed for low range, try pressing the range button on channel 15 or another channel up to 22 and you will succeed. Greetings from Serbia

A question. I have 2 of these and I just want to mess around with them if use a channel below 22 would I end up talking to someone even on 1 channel?

Well upon making this video I have discovered that channels above 22 is actually preset private channels. They all are with in the 22 channels.

It's legal for anyone to transmit on any radio in an emergency. Plus your range is limited, what's the issue?

Well it turns out if you look at the comment before yours it will explain what those extra channels are. We are all well aware we can use any radio during an emergency. There is no issue.

On that cobra above 22 uses 1-22 but 23-40 is actually 1-22 with the so called privacy codes so still frs not gmrs.

Also why the FCC Calls it a service makes no sense at all. The only government service involved with radio frequencies is collecting fees and creating regulations notice the key word regulation.

Nope did say anything to the fcc infact you look at another video i did on these, I was wrong on this one, you will find they don't go beyond the allotted 22 channels

Actually channels 15-22 u need a gmrs license but channels 1-14 u can get away from a license and cobra has the same feature with having more channels that are just "privacy" channels that midland has

Actually 15-22 share GMRS with FRS, I don't remember how long ago they expanded that.

on f r s you are maxed out at 1/2 watt for gmrs you need a license and you radio need's the codes for any repeter near 1 I have a licsens 2 my radio is set to talk to 6 repeters linked together thay operate at 20 miles there for the license

Not on FRS or GMRS, if they are using CB band. Now if they were using those bands then you probably could depending on the channel and distance

And I have found it's best to know what I'm talking before making spontaneous videos. about nd not spray paint the walls inside the house. No more than two watts on 15-22, if your radio will achieve that, or get a license. Read the manual...

Actually, FRS has 22 channels, GMRS has 22 simplex channels and 8 repeater channels that's the real story, no offense learn how to spell as well. If you have a license good for you do you want a cookie? I have have a license as well now. I have no idea if you were trying to insult someone but you didn't do a good job if you were trying. 🤣🤣🤣
