In this video I discuss your options for getting an A&P license or certificate so you can work on airplanes. Having an A&P is certainly a wise decision for job security and pay but how can you get one?

I spent 10 years in the Air Force got my license just off all the schools i went to....I'm from San Antonio in the 90s I work for D Howard for a few years in San Antonio ..then I went to Southwest Airlines for 23 years now I'm retired.....the pay at Southwest Airlines was really good the job overall at Southwest Airlines was great...most people don't understand what a A&P mechanic do when they find out they're usually very interested...It can be a very interesting and fun career field to be in....I really like your video keep it up the industry is always shorthanded always needs new Youngblood

A 3rd option that I have heard about is to build a kit plane, log your hours in the same way, have an IA (or A&P?) occasionally inspect you work and sign your log book. Then contact the faa AI DA in the same way and take the appropriate tests.

That is essentially the same as practical experience but does work. However, even the cheapest kit planes will end up costing 30k to build.

Hi Guys, I am an aspiring A&P student. Going this route(kit plane) or the LSA repairman certificate route. Would you have to go through a three year waiting period?

@alonshalit5778 yes, but good news it will take at least 3 years to build a plane.

There is a third route. Get an LSA Repairman’s Certificate and log all your tasks and then test for your full A&P

True but you do still have to go in front of the FAA and show practical experience.

our school in north Florida was 2.5 years General was 1 semester 450 class room hours Airframe was 2 semesters 900 classroom hours and PowerPlant was also 2 semesters 900 classroom hours… I really liked The way we did it class Time was From 7-1 which made it very possible to still have A Full Job

I’m planning on going to a community college that has an airframe and powerplant program. On the website it doesn’t say anything about it being a 147 school. My interest in this career is recent so I’m not that knowledgeable in it nor do I know much about airplanes in the first place, but I would like to know if the community college course would be a good idea or if I should pay for a school that specializes in aviation?

The 147 that I teach at is also a community college. The benefit being its much cheaper than the other schools nearby and because we have been doing it for 25 years we are also a better program. Before making the jump somewhere else I would just call and verify that they are an approved 147.

What if I’ve working in the kc-10 for 3 years as hydraulic spec Would studying for the teat be enough to pass and how long can that be achieved

It's allot to self study but it can be done. The easiest thing would probably be to do a crash course or prep school they usually only take a week or 2.

I’m currently 34 breaching 35 in march been a truck driver for almost 10 years but I’m really into cars and mechanical things hoping this will be the career change I’ve been looking for 😅. I just found a place in California called orange coast college their site says their FAA accredited. I have a question on the designations, is there any difference from A&P to AMT? I’m a new subscriber so sorry if you’ve already covered this. Also how proficient should my math be 😂

A&P (airframe and powerplant certificate) is the name of the certificate you get just like a PP (private pilot certificate). A.M.T. is just the acronym that describes our field Aircraft Maintenance Technician. Hope that helps clear it up a bit.

@@Bumblebeewrxmath should be pretty proficient at least up to basic algebra however General books should cover the required math and how it is applied.

Is AIM a good school? Have you heard anything about them and are they truly 147 school apparently they mentioned I will not have to take the FAA exam’s in order to get my a&p certificate is this all true or this school just trying to get more students

AIM is a 147, however i don't know about the testing. Everyone has to take the FAA exams. My guess is AIM does that in house so they can say you don't have to go take the test.

Hate to said this but....not all FAA 147 schools are created equally. There are some FAA 147 schools that are better than others in terms of the quality of the instructors, the learning environment, and the equipment and tools available to students to learn about aviation maintenance.

If you are already attending I'd just ask. Or they should have it posted on the website. I'm pretty sure they are the FAA does not take to kindly to schools that don't seek approval from them.

@@brycebuildsit I understand that and I really appreciate instructors that actually care like yall, our school in particular is under new management, students arent happy, instructors arent happy, its not good, the instructors want to leave, they used to care according to students that have been in school for longer than I have, its just a shame but it is what it is

I work full time 3pm - 11:30pm Monday through Friday with kids, wife and mortgage, but no prior military service. How long will it take me to complete my a&p if I sign up at my community college for their morning program?

sorry for my late reply, the easy answer is 3 years. It does depend on the program though some classes are only offered in the afternoon so you may have to make the change over eventually.

@@Drum93bumnot really a possibility since you’d have to be present in class for about 75% of the meetings or the school/professor will drop you not the FAA. Recently I was on the KING aviation website and saw they released a brand new fully online part147 course which after completion you receive a certificate and can go take your written exams. You complete everything on your own time using King’s resources which are great. I’m currently in my last semester of powerplant finishing the 3 year community college route and we watch the videos produced by KING quite a bit. Looking back there’s many ways I could’ve shortened my program and suggest you look to do the same. Remember it’s about knowing the information not memorizing it, you have to be able to apply it. Good luck, it’s easier than you think.

It should be on their website that they are. I teach at a community college in San Antonio and we are a 147. I personally think we are one of the best.
