I recently returned from a 21 day Cebu City PH. trip and my budget was about $3000 including airfare. I spent about $2800 plus change. That was for hotel, food, transportation, some clothes, laundry, travel agency to arrange my sight seeing trips, two tour guides to show me around the city and I could call them up really any time for information and a little advice on good food places, places to go and see etc. I had the time of my life, and I met 3 very nice and beautiful ladies that I took out to dinner, to coffee and conversation etc. etc. I may or may not ever return to the Philippines but the memories of my trip there to me are priceless! I am 71 years old and widowed for over ten years. .Rudy G. Texas.

'Two week' millionaires can appear to be sad on first reflection, but who cares? If a guy wants fun in his later years, what is the problem? He's paying the girls so it's just a business transaction. Providing there is no abuse from either side no one loses. I am a genuine millionaire, with property, income and business interests in the Philippines. I am in my 50's and happily domiciled with my family but I'm not going to knock anyone for seeking a bit of enjoyment. My missus is around the same age as I am. We met in HK and have kids together, plus a couple of adoptees. We came to the Philippines for an easy life. I know men in relationships with much younger women but, as I said before, who cares? Any relationship is transactional. If there is no exploitation it is nobody else's business except for the parties involved.

I spend 10k usd per month for a pretty basic life in Seattle. In did the same thing as Andrew when I went to Manila, stayed with a beautiful women in a five star hotel in bgc (top rated five star hotel in bgc) I spent about $650 usd per day (including hotel, not including air) and I had hands down the best time of my life , I don’t care that I paid 1000 pesos for a 10 minute cab ride. I don’t care that when I went out to dinner at a nice steakhouse I paid 15,000 pesos for dinner for two but I do care about is the fact that I was treated with respect I had a lot of fun, and I made amazing memories. The biggest difference between me and Andrew is the fact that I am blessed to be able to do this in my early 40s and he had to wait until he’s almost 80 If you have the financial resources to be able to travel like this and have it not be a burden on your life I strongly recommend it because the memories you will make far outweigh the cost.

I have a friend who is 80. He visits my country about 6 months a year and has two women he spends time with. It is a similar situation. His attitude is at his stage of life he has plenty of money and he gets pleasure from helping the two women. He feels like he is truly making a difference in their lives and in return he gets the companionship. He told me in all the relationships he ever had in his life, these are the best. I can appreciate how he feels and by the time I am his age, I may do the same thing.

Andrew had a great time. Sometimes we just decide to spend the money KNOWING that we are paying for companionship. I visit the Philippines for 30 or so days each time and it easily costs me 20kUS. Part of that is in direct expense and as a 100%commissioned sales person it costs more because I’m not earning. I have a Filipina that joins me each time and we have a GREAT time. I enjoy her company and she enjoys mine. She gets a vacation that she wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford. The last trip started in Bali progressed to Cebu, Bohol and ended with joining her kids in Manila for the final 4 days. I’ve already planned another month for 2024 and I’m not sure where we will go.

I really appreciate you doing this video Mike, you wouldn’t believe the amount of backlash I got from my last vacation when I went to Thailand roughly I spent $10,000 while I was there in a month and I completely enjoyed myself and I would do it all over again in a heartbeat I got to go see temples that I thoroughly enjoyed it. I got to travel around the country go where I wanted and yes I had girls that I paid to share time with me and I didn’t mind one bit. Some of them were only friends. Some of them were more than that and that’s OK too as far as I’m concerned, as long as know what the deal is, it’s hard to judge because I had been married for almost 30 years raised two kids sent them off to college by the time I took that vacation I hadn’t been around or with a woman in over five years and that’s hard to saywhy shouldn’t I enjoy myself?

Mike It was nice that Andrew put his self in a position that he could afford to come out for 4 months and spend $40,000 to enjoy himself in retirement. Many people have accumulated a lot of assets by living a middle class lifestyle and planning for retirement ending up with more money than they will ever spend. It was nice of him to provide employment to the Tour Guides at decent wages and I am sure he treated them respectfully and they were able to see the sights. Andrew seemed well organized and I bet when his time comes his children will still inherit a sum of money no matter how much he spends on vacations.

The biggest issue I see & which is a common theme with so many expat KZbin videos is this. Too many nosy people butt into other’s business. If I were that man Andrew I would have shut down your first convo as soon as I sensed you crossing my privacy boundaries. He was under no obligation to tell you Jack about what he was doing & how he was rolling. It was not your place to determine whether or not he was being taken advantage of. Now I see how so many expat fist fights in the Philippines start. Let me say this for the people in back. NOBODY OWES YOU ANY EXPLANATION OR DISCUSSION TIME ABOUT THEIR MONEY OR PERSONAL AFFAIRS! NOR DO YOU HAVE ANY RIGHTS TO INQUIRE!

For all we know this gentleman was facing his demise, better to lay in your deathbed knowing you experienced this instead of wishing you had. Last year I almost crossed the bridge myself, as I recovered I made up my mind. Whatever time I have left I will be realizing some dreams. I will be embarking on this adventure in several months, I want to have no regrets when the day comes that the Lord calls me home. I have no kids and an ex wife, so who am I going to leave this house to? Sure as hell not the government. A beautiful tour guide, girlfriend or wife, take your pick, any are attainable.

This is a great story. Everyone knew what was expected from them and everyone was willing to pay the price. I think a lot of Filipina/ Foreigner exchanges start out like this and then suddenly the foreigner is crying about being scammed. This is why I don't judge other people on how much (if any) They want to send or give to a Filipina. I just get tired of hearing them say they were "scammed" later on. If you are going to be a big boy and give money away, then be a big boy and accept responsibility for "your decision" to "give" your money away. Like you said, you cannot take it with you, and you are making a big difference in the life of someone in the Philippines. All I ever ask for is "the truth." I don't like being lied to because then I cannot trust that person anymore. Once the trust is broken, it's hard to get it back again, but I'm still responsible for the decisions I make, and you would never see me crying about being scammed.

Totally agree - some of us in our 60s and 70s have worked hard and accumulated far more money than we can spend with the time left to us - and that goes especially for a lower cost country like the Philippines. Why not spend to enjoy yourself if you have it and at the same time help out two young ladies who are taking the time and making the effort to help you have a good time. It is a complete win-win. So where online did he meet these ladies . . .?

Now, that is a man who know what he wants and does it regardless of what others think about him. Good for him! He made his money and now he is enjoying it the way he wants and with whoever he wants! 100 percent respect to him. He is living his best life and making no bones about it. Nobody is getting scammed. He is getting female companionship and attention and the women are receiving reasonable compensation. Everybody wins except the haters who envy him. Great story, Mike on meeting this gentleman and his unique life.

Last month I staid 2 weeks at Solinea… Tower 1. Very quiet. Oversea Philippino visitors use it. Asian expats live there. Older and younger western or asian men have appointments with dating site girls. ( waiting for a rental car 3 hours in the lobby taught me a lot 😊) Just saw nobody at the central pool during 4 visits.

Before I retired here in my 14 vacation trips, I enjoyed as Andrew. The exception was I was married so I didn't have "guides". But when vacationing I stayed in very nice accommodations, hired private vans etc. Enjoyed good food, spas, etc. Yes Mike I always have prepaid my hotels, transportation and tours if possible. Prepaid is great, then you feel more relaxed to enjoy yourself.

@@mikesphilippineretirement Thailand has higher quality everything than the Philippines, I’m in a cheap hotel and there’s even a machine outside to fill a water bottle with clean water , and the air pollution isn’t bad in Bangkok. But Thais aren’t interested in speaking English or mixing with foreigners. The Philippines is the easiest Asian country to get a girlfriend. I still don’t wanna go back anytime soon there though because the air is toxic , the fruit is low quality, I just don’t like the primitive culture of the Philippines, in other countries they are open to change/innovation. The only place I could ever live in the Philippines is BGC, it’s the one place in the Philippines with a culture that’s about progress.

10k PHP a week isn’t even 10k USD in a year. On my trip I spent just under 1k USD a week, $3,800.00 . That was with myself & my ex traveling all over the country. Could have been much less except for the last minute flight to Davon & the $150 a night hotel there. Flights & hotel was $700. We did pretty much what ever we wanted on that budget. I can’t imagine what I would have been doing on a 10k a week budget. For those wondering, spending that money on the very nice hotel in Davao didn’t really enhance my experience. I’ll be sticking to the 20-50 dollar a night hotels on my future trips.

I learned a long time ago that something is worth exactly the amount that someone pays for it. I spent $620 a week including the $28 a day for Air B N B's and I had a great time. However, I don't drink alcohol and most of my meals were local food (always local food for breakfast). So I agree with you. $1,000 a week for vacationing is the sweet spot.
