Mike, it will take a lot for a Filipino neighbor to do that. Filipinos are very forgiving. It;s usually the expats (not all) who are so arrogant and looks down upon other people like they thinks it's a right. As long as you don't push a Filipino against a wall, you'll be alright.

I’ve been a permanent resident for a few years and don’t go looking for problems but sometimes trouble finds us. If I was no longer welcome and needed to leave the Philippines in a hurry for any reason Guam is a close US territory and is my planned bug-out location. From there I could regroup and make new plans.

If you are with a girl for awhile and have a legit relationship and it falls apart, give her whatever material things she wants. Things can be replaced. Also, never live in the same house or barangay as your significant other. The further away you live the better. If S does hit the fan, always use misdirection. Say you're going one way and go the other. (I'm also not talking about serious crimes, I'm talking about either normal breakups or false accusations.)

This would be a great reason to never buy in the PI or any foreign country along with not having a foreign bank account that you keep any money more than a months operating expenses. You never know when you might piss off the wrong local who has some sway with the local police or government

Local law enforcements in foreign countries are only obligated to protect their citizens. If you engage with the locals no matter who's at fault, the foreigners lose most of the time. American military stationed overseas have the Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA) with their foreign partners to deal with jurisdiction. which protect the rights of their military, gov't, and contracting personnel. If your don't fall under the aforementioned, you're at the mercy of the foreign government which means you'll meet "Bubba" in a foreign form. Thank you Buckeye/ Bengal fan. You have pretty good college football team this year.
