Welcome. Be a bit warned, sometimes you can get those who want you to play the way they played, and they can be a bit pushy. Try to take it as they are proud of their virtual home and want you to get a full experience, but don’t be afraid to tell people that your experience is your choice and your pace. There’s so much content when starting fresh that it can be easy to get burned out. Take breaks from the story as needed to ocean fish, or gold saucer, or run the raids (recommended in you want full story lore), or run glamour contests. Russ, don't let the "FFXIV streaming cycle" bothers you. Our community is full of MSQ Vampires because how good the MSQ is and we want to see others reaction to it. Of course the viewers would drop after you get through all the casual contents because let's face it, people wouldn't enjoy the contents they can't understand. But pretty sure, we will always support our content creators, one way or anothe- Wait you are a Lalafell now? Unsub and unfollow. Just kidding. Enjoy your journey. I can’t lie we ffxiv fans love watching new people hop in and play. Of course not all will stick around but plenty will and you’ll meet so many cool people along the way. Glad your here! As cliche as it sounds, I can safely say this game saved my life. I was going through a divorce, I was in a car accident that totalled my car and a number of people I called friends showed their true colors. If it weren't for this community as a whole, I was able to get to a better place. My FC is my found family, and I'm glad you've found your way into the light we all love~

brother, i mean this with all the love of the community. this isnt really a bash on you or us. but once you finish MSQ veiw tend to drop off. its happened time and time again, but the most notable one would be pyromancer. just keep this in mind in terms of content creation and try to take as much time as you can doing MSQ and raid story and junk :) again im very glad you joined XIV but with all the possitivity coming your way, i just wanted to give you a heads up. PS. im the nerd who likes seeing just basic dungeon runs and other fight content (exs savages etc) :) so keep that stuff comin :3

This is precisely why the community will jump at an opportunity to help a new player get into the game we all love. I personally got into the game around January and have since finished the entire story and logged 1k hours. This game has helped me learn new skills and made new friends, not to mention the memories I've made along the way. I'm so glad you're enjoying your time with the game and the community

Welcome to Eorzea! FFXIV has been a major point in my life for about 5 or 6 years and put thousands of hours into the game. I’m currently in a bit of down time due to a bit of burnout but the great part about FFXIV is the stance producer Yoshi-P has on the game he said this about playing other games too:

Yes, ARR is that slightly slow prologue story, but everything in ARR gets paid off down the line. I like the slowness, the way it lets you sink into the world and become a real part of it. From the start there are amazing NPCs to interact with and a whole vast world to explore. I like making friends with people and making a real difference in the world I'm playing in. Even just helping some kid feel better and making her laugh is a great feeling. I love it

What can I say, welcome to the game. Personally, at some point this game goes beyond simply being enjoyable and becomes something more dear to you, especially with FC community and raiding. Made some great friends while Savage raiding, so I wish you a good experience. ❤
