This is one of the most critical things I've learned in my walk with God.The presence of God is not felt - it is known. We can only identify what we are familiar with. God is everywhere, but we cannot "feel" Him if we do not "know" His presence internally.

Wow! What a wonderful wonderful clear description and revelation! Thank you for that! You're easy to grasp more accurate explanation of God's presence has just unlocked my understanding. It's as if you opened up a parable that I now see. Over the last many months I have wondered why some others so easily State they are experiencing God's presence while I am somewhat feeling left out. I now can look back at all the many many times that I have felt God's presence without recognizing that's what it actually was. His presence is known! How many times I have walked out of my door feeling such great confidence and closeness with the Lord. Not Recognizing that is his actual presence. Thank you for helping myself and I'm sure so many others to understand that inner confidence, inner peace and inner Joy... is the presence of God! That "knowing"; which I can only describe as a holy confidence.... that is his presence!

The key to this whole thing is that you can't give up. Keep pursuing, keep pushing. Pray for His peace and rest. In His Presence there is fullness of of joy. It's also about faith, you got to believe and know that He(God) is with you. So many people want proof, but your proof is that He woke you up this morning and you was cloth and in your right mind. As a deer pants for water, so my soul long for my Lord. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, lean not into your own understanding. Just because you can't feel Him does not mean He is not there. He was there all the time.

I thought about how when God gave Jacob that dream in Genesis 28:10-22 I believe. The Bible says “Then Jacob awoke from his sleep and said, “Surely the Lord is in this place, and I did not know it.”” ‭‭Genesis‬ ‭28:16‬ ‭ESV‬‬ www.bible.com/59/gen.28.16.esv He didn’t know but God was there, but He was. I'm hoping for a miracle now... After years of extreme depression and anxiety I had a break down, a traumatic life event which I survived by just numbing myself completely.. Now I can't feel anything, rejoice about nothing.. Anhedonia it is called.. And since I lost my connection with God that brought me solace.. Hope God restores me, no matter how broken I was.. Preferable to this..

I have been where you are. In the beginning I had the assurance that my times are in His hands. A few years later, I felt such a failure that I put my Bible away. I apologized to God saying, I'm done. But I will tell anyone who asks about spiritual things that Jesus is the answer. I won't deny that. 3 months later, out of the blue, He just spoke to me, touched my cheek and totally, absolutely healed me, freed me etc. It was so real, my husband came home after working away for weeks and he didn't recognise me in our own house. He didn't even recognise my personality and energy and was startled a few times. I was full of peace and confidence. After I was healed I spent 3 days asking Him questions and He answered me. I often say...peace is a person. Salvation is a person. Etc. All of heaven's love and blessings to you.

I have anxiety and I want to feel God's peace! I don't think when people say they don't "feel" God, that they mean that they physically can't feel Him. I know personally, I mean I want to feel the peace everyone describes...and I just don't. Obviously this was quite a while ago now, since you felt depressed. The Reply is entitled to his/her opinion of course. In Ecclesiastes there is a time and a season for every human state, and experience. God wont, I don't think, give us happiness all the time. Even speaking from a psycho-emotional point of view, our bodies will at times be a depressed ' system'/ Have you read some of the psalms? Or thought about various people in the bible, experiencing difficult, painful times? When I cant tell or am not sure that God is listening to my prayers, I play lots of you tube videos about Gods love for Mankind, psalms and healing scriptures. And am reminded of Gods ways, His presence throughout recorded history, but faith is not, disappointing as that is, a feeling. If you love God genuinely, and your life reflects that, though we are flawed, believe He is with you in your dark times. But even His own son felt that his Father had forsaken him when Jesus needed Him most. God Bless

I have found since my first connection with God, it was the people around me, who didn't let me share me experience, didn't support my experience and ultimately marginalized me FOR my experience, dampened down my soul and connection - when I disconnect from these people, I sence God again...... The kingdom is within Don't try to speak about spiritual truth with people who are limited to external world - they cannot comprehend and can actually make your experience very difficult. I would love to be able to speak freely of god's truth, my experience and bring hope to others without having to put myself at risk of persecution, loss and oppression, but guess we live in a society where the same problems Jesus faced are still present! I realized something... we feel God in our hearts as we are younger Christians, but then God takes a step back to encourage us to seek forward with greater conviction. We fall into a trap of waiting for a feeling to praise, waiting for a feeling to share the Gospel, waiting for a feeling to have faith instead of fear... and so He weans is off requiring to feel something in our hearts so that we can truly start walking in the spirit. No God has not abandoned you. No He is not far from you. He is still within you. You just can’t “feel” Him in your “heart”. But know this. The Lord is always with you. Always.

I can feel the Presence of God at will, by the grace of God. There was a period where I couldn’t and nothing seemed to work. Worship, being in the Word, prayer, etc. I am now studying the reason why this is the case. I suspect witchcraft as a possible reason. I pray and speak declarations to break witchcraft over me every so often. (Cindy Trimm’s Atomic Power of Prayer) And it has never been a problem ever since to feel God’s Presence. Everything went back to normal. Reading the Word, worship, etc all connects me to Him again.

I have not felt the presence of God since after maybe the first year I got saved. And I know it was witch craft, or if not then it was lying doctrins and legalism. What you said gave me hope. I have been suffering what seems like an eternity not feeling much of any joy of the Lord at all. Only has He gave me glimpses to freedom, possibly to give me hope to keep seeking for Him. I hear the Lord's voice often in my life, but I don't know if I ever feel His presence. Rather my mind is tormented and I am constantly dicieved by delusions and lies. I don't know what to do other than stand on His promise to me that I will be free. But please pray for me if you will. I want to feel his presence. I long for it. Maybe once or twice a year for a brief moment God will come fill me with his presence, but it is very scarce. Most the time I just feel depressed and anxious. I just try to remember that it is not about me or what I can get anymore though, it is about Him. I gave my life to him to do as he pleases and this is what He wants to do with it. I don't understand it, but it is His way. And begging for His presence or trying to work for it, or complaining about starving for his love is basically me saying I don't trust in his way and I want it to be my way again. So I just try to endure this decade-long spiritual starvation as well as I can and continue to trust in his way.

Sandra Chatwin Isaiah 40:31, Psalms 9:10, Jeremiah 29:13, Matthew 7:7-8, I believe the Lord wants us, in some aspect, to work for his presence and his Holy Spirit. If not, He wouldn't have left so many encouraging scriptures to keep us going in seeking him. Especially when it comes to being still and silent before the Lord, I think that kinda feels like work, as well. I myself have never felt His presence yet, but I know He would want us to deny ourselves and obey Him, and persevere until we reach His presence. @@amberleyah3047 Actually, me too. However, I know He hasn't left me. I realized it was actually me. I haven't made any time for Him. Slowly I've been praying and reading His word less. I put other things before Him, like my education or my friends. It was never Him who left me, but unfortunately me who left Him. It's always hard for me to make time for God because I'm that typical 14 year old who always wants to do other things. The flesh is weak but the spirit is willing. I've realized my mistakes and I prayed and asked God to help me. He gave me the desire and thirst to read His word and spend time with Him. Now I am. However, silence may be apart of God's plan. He may want to build your faith or trust in Him. So I suggest just keep seeking Him and don't give up, but if there are things you're putting first in your life instead of God, that can hinder your relationship with Him. I'm not really sure what your situation is, but don't lose faith. Satan wants to steal your faith because without faith it's impossible to please God.

I think you’re trying to make a good point but missing it. We will have time we feel the Presence of God, and there will be times where we feel the fruit of our faith (like peace and love and comfort), but there will also be times when bad things happen, and life gets stressful, and we feel burnt out and alone… even isolated or ignored by God. That’s one of the biggest blessings of having the Psalms in our Bible, instead of the “Happy Clappy All The Time” messages some churches and some Christians preach as what a Believer’s life should be like all the time after they are Saved. What faith means is that even when we’re in our darkest places, and our hearts and heads are in pain, and none of our emotions are nice or pleasant, we need to lean on God’s promises that He hasn’t left us, He is in ultimate control, and He has promised us a good future. We lean on our logic, we lean on our memories of better times, we lean on the truth and dependability of the Bible, we lean on support from other Believers, and we take all things (even our miserable complaints and painful emotions and fears) to Jesus in prayer like the Psalms. If we do these things we can forge the courage and strength to keep walking in the dark even though it feels awful. That doesn’t mean you faith has failed, or that God has failed, it’s just a reminder that we live in a fallen world when evil and calamity exists. When your life is going ok it is easy to say you feel peace, love, hope, and happiness in your faith. But there are times that’s just really not possible to hold onto. People asking this question are usually not living in a life that’s going ok, and they need to know that’s part of reality and they can survive the chaos. Being told they should feel good things because of their faith when they are truly struggling is one of the reasons people stop believing in God, Christians, and the church because your message sounds like “blaming the victim” or “ignoring their need/pain instead of helping/supporting.”

Faith requires you to believe in God even if no sign of his presence exists in your life. If you need validation of God's influence in your life through feelings, you will be chasing God until the day you die. He may or may not reveal yourself to you but it is faith that you should be seeking, not feelings.

Do you always have to pray on your knees because it puts me off praying as my knees ache 😖. I pray sitting up in bed but I'm not sure if that's disrespectful to God. Also I still feel nothing whilst praying and reading my Bible! Why do people say if you open your heart to God he will transform you? It hasn't happened to me. First of all nice dude like seriously. You are wanting to know the creator, much respect I saw your other comment and I see that you just wanna do it right, you don't wanna waste time you wanna know Jesus, you wanna love him and that's great! With all that being said: GOD knows the intentions of your heart and he knows you. This is your journey and race with him. Remember do everything with the heart and have the right teaching on who he is. So basically spirit and truth. it's doesn't matter on knees etc But come with a heart that wants to seek his face not his hands. Come with all your desires gone and desire him more than your hobby, girlfriend... It's a narrow road and some days you get frustrated and angry but when you come to him with only 10% of yourself believing, that level will grow the more you come and be persistent with him,. Kinda like the gym. A faith the size of a mustard seed can move mountains. Love is patience and that's the truth. It will take time to get to know him. He looks at you individually and understands what's hard for you and makes a door for you. Don't stress or compare yourself. Us humans think logical and always need formulas on what works. Don't try to please the teacher but have a relationship with your father. Religion is teacher student relationship but following jesus is a relationship with discipline that comes from his love. Anyways I'll pray for you.

I have been asking this same question. Right now more then ever before with what I am going through I just want some kind of reassurance that He is with me and helping me. I have done a lot of bad horrible stuff in the past that will make a regular sinner sigh. But now I want nothing more then to be close to Him and I am terrified. I try my best not to be but I am having issues with my heart. I am terrified of death. Because I don't know where I stand with Him and I don't get why He can't just show me some way that I am forgiven. Too many talk about going too far that they cant be saved because God turns His back on them. Is that what He is doing to me. It is frightening enough to have heart issues. And death is even scarier. But nothing is scarier then dying not knowing if God loves me anymore. I just don't know what to think. I know God hates disbelief so I try my best to believe. Some people make it look so easy. I would do anything to go back in time and change my mistakes. But I listened to the lie that I have plenty of time to get right with God.

i dont feel peace. In fact, my anxiety is so severe that i have to take medication just to help me function. people have asked me if i repented from my sins as if my anxiety is a result of seperation of God in my life. Hi thanks for writing this. I have been going through a very hard time . And I have been crying out to God and seeking God for almost a year. And I have not felt his presence at all. To the point that it has scared me and almost created unbelief that I won't feel his presence. It has been very hard. And I have been told to not strive and just come to God in faith, but when I feel I do that nothing happens. It has puzzled me. Maybe I'm still striving and believing in my works while seeking God instead of actually believing in the finished work of Christ. Have you had a time you didn't feel God's presence.
