These floor tiles are painted cement tiles and were glued with cement according to the old technique. This is why they are so durable and the two layers actually fuse together. You can't clean them unless you sand off the excess. My grandfather worked with them after the II war.

Skip cleaning the tiles … keep them for a surface that is adjustable in height where you can add or reduce the amount of concrete below. Only a circular saw to even the edges . They are really beautiful. It would be a bit like laying cobble stones on a street.

For the tiles you can save some , just plan a thicker base. Cut the edges of cement tiles shape with the cement attached. Like installing Thick tiles. We call that improvise to save. I really like the Open floor plan. It will make the space appear much larger. Have each level be a seperate living space, just put a closet in each level for storage, clothes to hang etc. By keeping the Levels Simple, & open there will be less cost involved also👍👍🛠️🔧🛠️🙏🙏Be blessed , Great progress.

Hi mate, you two work hard and are a great example to people. Just want to let you know that the plasterboard you have installed has a good chance of failing. All plasterboard needs stud adhesive glue behind it on the timber battens. The screws don't hold it up! They just hold it while the glue dries. Good luck going forward. Watch some plasterboard installation videos. Cheers from Oz.

Hello Diego, my name is Daniel, I live in Argentina in a city called Mar del Plata, on the Atlantic coast, I've been watching your videos for a while (the current ones, and I'm looking for the previous ones). I am fascinated by each one of them, because I see the drive of you and your wife Joana, both so young, in particular she who handles the tools alongside you, is little seen and really that is great to encourage others, my Most sincere congratulations to both of you. I think you They live in France or the UK because you speak English very well and I have no reference to the place. It's beautiful, yes, I don't speak English well but I hope you understand what I want to explain. I like to give a hand to those who are starting out and getting started. They drive like you. two. I am 61 years old and it is time to give something of what I learned, you and your wife are people who deserve to be helped and they also deserve everything they are achieving with so much effort and tenacity. Well, regarding the tiles to recover, I can give a "TIP" so that you can try to save them, perhaps it will help and have a result, we here when we find ourselves with this situation; That is to say, tiles of this type where (as they said in a previous comment they have been painted with cement and then they put material reinforced with cement and it looks like a rock), as I said, here we help ourselves by using an angle grinder with a diamond disc for masonry, we make a grid-type drawing and then with a chisel and a not very heavy mason, supporting the mosaic on a mound of sand, we remove it, finishing leveling with the same disc as if we were grinding a steel surface, mostly we rescue the 85 -90% of the tiles or mosaics, I don't know what they call it there, the only bad thing is the dust, but it works. I hope this helps you and is useful, I greet you and hug you from a distance with the hope that I have contributed something useful to your beautiful life project. Thank you for the videos every week, I really love being able to see them and follow their progress and adventures again, a big hug

Maybe use those old tiles outdoors on a bed of sand, like pavers. That way you can embed them each as deeply as necessary to make the top surface level without having to clear the old cement off them.

For that space, you should make it open floor plan. Put the bathroom in the corner, keep the kitchen open, but separate it from the living space with an island. Have steps going up in the back, and combine the living and dining, or use the island as an eating place. Since you only do one of those things at a time, enjoying the entire space while eating, cooking, or relaxing images everything feel spacious. You can coffer the ceiling and define spaces with overhead lentils and pillars without losing them off.

If you have enough good tiles left, re-use them in either the kitchen or the bathroom. For the stairway to the second floor - keep it light and airy - maybe some wrought- iron spindles with wood handrail. It would suit the character of the red brick feature wall.

Measure the thickness of the tile with the most cement attached, dig the floor to adjust for the thickness of that tile as to get a proper level for the new flooring, clean the edges of all the tiles with a grinder. Some parts in laying it down will require more thinset to cater for the different thickness of the tiles that has cement attached to it and you should be good to go. It will take a little longer but will be worth it.

En tout cas ça promet de belle vidéo et du travail , faite quand même attention à vous protéger et de ne pas trop manipulé des charges lourdes seul . Bon courage pour la suite ^_^^

I am thinking there must be a solution of some kind that the tiles can soak in to make it possible to separate the tile from the clay and whatever is sticking to the bottom of the tiles.

I was hoping you could reuse or leave those tiles in place. They are very beautiful. Hopefully, someone can give you some good advice on how to save them. Thanks for the video!

Let that floor go. It's cement. Maybe stencil something on your new floor? It could be beautiful. 😊
