Thank you for this! I love that you said to make your loc journey your own and it doesn't have to be linked to anything life-changing. You can just like it as a hairstyle. Some people in the loc community make it seem like you have to sign an oath or something or be going through emotional or 'spiritual' issues. Like, it's just hair and it's growing on my head. I'm allowed to change my mind without it looking like I just betrayed everyone, lol. I'm almost 9 months in and, tbh, I sometimes have a love-hate relationship with my locs due to them still being in the teenage phase and budding like crazy (I think I like them frizzy lowkey, but I go to the office every week and sometimes feel a tad bit unkempt, tbh). Loc envy has set in as well, and sometimes I wish I'd started them off smaller, sometimes bigger due to my hair texture and I'm just like 🤦🏾‍♀️ Thank you for the video! You spoke my mind. Let your loc journey be your own! (I'm in love with your hair, tbh. It's goals!)

Yesss exactly! Congrats on making it to 9 mos btw! The first year was challenging for me for multiple reasons, definitely had to learn to embrace that phase. Kept reminding myself “it’s a journey”. I was doing updo and barrel twist styles more during the beginning, maybe that can be an option for your work styles. And we ain’t doing no loc envying! Lol being inspired yes, but your locs are unique to you and they will thrive specifically for and with you 🤎. And if you ever change your mind and/or want to start again, do what YOU want to do with your crown. Good luck on the rest of your amazing journey and Thank you ✨

I had thick locs and I wore a middle part I had my locs for 4 years & loved the “neat” look so much that I was retwisting every other week! I started seeing thinning around my part I was like no ma’am lol so I cut & saved my locs to treat the thinning I just shaved my head in hopes that it will grow back fuller in that area 🤞🏾 I miss my locs and I can’t wait to reattach them but your hair is beautiful

My new lock crush. I'm almost 10 months in. Started myself, self maintain, (I'm cheap) and take really good care of them. I'm past the budding stage and feel my hair locked quick..Probably because I am fanatical about moisture and spritz daily with distilled water, tea tree oil. Every few days I spritz with distilled water, glycerin, and grapeseed oil. Completely stopped oiling my scalp 6 months ago and oh my gosh did it make a difference.. No more itchy scalp. I'm also fanatical about keeping them clean. Biggest thing I learned was do not oil your scalp it oils itself. My hair is flourishing and healthy. Also mixed with a good amount of gray that I have decided to embrace. My dream is that side part style. Thanks for the video.

I'm almost 5 months in and still finding my way. I oil my roots (with lots getting on my scalp) about once a month to separate and wrap loose hairs around neighboring locs. I've had insane itching on this journey and now I wonder if it's the oil. If you no longer use oil, how does separating go for you, assuming you do that? Without oil, my roots would just tear.
@ExposedRoot
@ExposedRoot 2 жыл бұрын
@@Doc_McStuffins I don't have an issue separating at the roots but if you do just every few days manually separate your roots before they start to really tangle before you do your next retwist.. The first few times I saw just a handful of KZbinrs mention the fact that they stopped oiling their scalp I thought it was crazy. We have been taught to oil or scalp.. I couldn't understand why the date after I oil my scalp it would be itching like crazy and I would have issues that I didn't have as a loose natural. Like I said just get a spray bottle or a 360 sprayer fill it about halfway with distilled water add several drops of tea tree oil to your liking, Maybe some Rosemary oil or peppermint oil but my main is tea tree because of the antibacterial properties. Use that as a daily spritzer. Then make another one with about the same amount of water tea tree but also add about two tablespoons of grape seed oil. Maybe less I don't measure anymore. Shake it before you use it and spritz your hair not your scalp about every 3 days or so.. eventually you'll understand your hair and you'll know how often you should do it. No oil onions or scalp because your scalp makes its own oil. If you read scientifically the reason why you have an itchy scalp and/or support dermatitis is because the oils that you put on your scalp feed that yeast. After a while you will notice your scout just adjust and do its own thing. I do not have a dry scalp I do not have flakes and I do not have itching or support dermatitis and I never put oil on my scalp anymore. Forget about that Jamaican black castor oil and I'll let other stuff that I was also using. Just grape seed oil mixed in with the water and tea tree. Give it a good shake before you spritz believe me you will notice the difference.
@ExposedRoot
@ExposedRoot 2 жыл бұрын
@@Doc_McStuffins I also forgot to say when you spray do not spray your scalp, just spray from about 2 in from your scalp down the length of your hair. The sebum oil from your scalp takes care of the other inch or two growing out. Not necessary but a few months ago I started adding a few drops of vegetable glycerin to the water because glycerin poles in moisture which is why it's used in a lot of facial creams. After you're done with any of your spritzes split your face. My skin loves grapeseed oil and tea tree along with the vegetable glycerin. Keep us posted even if it's a few months down the line because I'll get a notification of your response.

@@ExposedRoot thanks so much for the reply! Very helpful. I've been natural for 7 years and have never oiled my scalp until now. Now when I do it, the sole purpose is to lubricate my roots to separate after washing. But girl, the burning and itching ice been having! It's unbearable and I don't know what's causing it. Had twists for 6 years before locing and never oiled my scalp directly, so oil may be the culprit. I have been misting with water, EO, and a bit of glycerin (no glycerin in the winter months for me though) for years, because I kept twists in before this. I find that it makes my hair hard and scratchy now, even distilled water. I use a shower filter with the same result. Makes me miss using Shea butter and leave ins. Interestingly, when I go home a few times a year, the tap water there makes it soft! Still concerned though that when I wash, my fine strands that tangle and web art the root won't easily separate post wash. I can literally go into a wash with full separation and afterwards have twists that seem almost fully married at the root. Shampooing matts it all up. My hair is perfect for locing lol but I'd like to keep my separation, hence where the oil had come in. But next wash, I'll try it without oils. I'd love to have an itching, burning free scalp again! Thank you

@Neyasha

Hi, so I would say make sure he’s giving enough time in between processing his hair. And maybe start with a black/jet black dye and if you’re using box dye (recommend: dark & lovely or creme of nature) make sure you get enough. For me considering the length and density of my hair at this time I needed 3. Also keeping the hair moisturized is going to be the biggest thing. I’m not licensed or a pro but these are the steps that worked for me. Good luck and let me know if you have more questions 😊
