Diego the tree moving causes the router to resync with the satellite. The dish movement is interpreted by the Starlink software as an obstruction.

This sure makes me want to get that done soon. I'm not up there full time, so the cost is a bit hard to grasp just yet. Watching the video now, we live up in Lassen Park in Northern California. Our tree and housing situation is identical. Ours is up in the highest tree. Ours has failed 3 times. ONE time was due to a rodent eating thru our cable. The other 2 are failure of the dish / cable. The two failures were covered by Starlink for free. The issue is paying the people to climb our tree so many times. For the last two years we're spent over $5000 including service costs and people to climb our tree so many times. We are very unimpressed at this point. While it works GREAT for about 6-8 months, once it doesn't its back to forking out more cash. EDIT: Our original install was IDENTICAL to yours, our tree climber who had installed roughly a dozen recommended the EXACT same way, same mount, same pole, same everything. We did that, worked great, rodent ate through. That person vanished so we had to hire a new professional. They recommended metal conduit. We did what they said, we ran the conduit up our 200ft tree, mind you, like you said, costing a ton of money, after about 8 months the cable failed. Starlink did acknowledge it was their fault and supplied us with new hardware for free. But paying someone to pull the cable again and the conduit was a nightmare and insanely costly.. We used rodent proof conduit that was a plastic, it has been great, no issues, but cable failed again recently.. If you go online and read about cable failures its very high, it seems like they just shit out randomly.. For us people who have them up in trees its a nightmare of a process. Also Elon being Elon making an ethernet cable with proprietary connections strictly for his Starlink device is a joke. Watching your video, I do wonder if the 250ft cable is the issue here... Maybe they aren't the same quality as the shorter cables? I'm no engineer I'm not sure. Sorry for the Long rant, if you do run conduit, I would suggest getting the animal proof plastic, don't bother with the metal. We used "TechFlex Rodent Resistant"

With no further than you are from your neighbor, you need to propose buying the necessary adapters and run an Ethernet cable from their cabin to yours and connect it to a wireless router. Split the cost and everyone would be happy. I suppose the one thing to work out would be how to power their Starlink system whenever someone needs it from both cabins.

The height is not important, it the obstructions. The satellites are 100 miles high. 50 feet won't make a difference. But you need to clear the trees in the way. Equipment is outdated every 2-4 years...besides that cramped cable may be the problem. I'd start there.

Diego, You can still use the staples to secure the cable to the tree but don’t hammer them in all the way. Leave some room for the tree to grow while still keeping the cable secure. You can also use some 1/2” conduit support clips and screw them into the tree, it will not hurt/injure the tree. Also, you may want to dig out that piece of the staple. In years to come you may need to take that tree down and you wouldn’t want to hit that staple with a chain saw. Just a thought.

Good morning, big fan of the channel. Due to my husbands job , remote IT, we have restrictions based on his project if he can be on starlink or requires a hard line. For this reason we split time between our remote cabin in Colville national forest and our house on whidbey. We purchased ours in 11/2022, luckily did not have to wait for ours because the pervious owner had one. Our equipment looks like yours but we use long wall mount vs your pole mount. I mounted it durning a snow storm, leaned out the window and screwed it on highest point I could reach on side of cabin. We were shocked how well it works. Our speeds do change on average we get 175 up 40 down but we have seen as low as 99 up and 8 down. Located half way up mountain, prior to install we found that it worked best in a clearing vs trees. I would guess your interference issue’s is the other trees and you need to go higher. We also have a eero mesh network connected to ours which helps with our wireless. One of the big selling points for us is we have underground power, so we do not have to worry about solar. I know you mentioned that your community has a well. Is everyone off grid in your community or can you get power? Love the channel keep up the good work!

The drone footage suggests you have a lot of trees nearby that are a good bit taller than your mount. The obstruction map should show you where the dish is seeing obstructions. Maybe if you extended the pole another 10-15 feet you might get more clear sky. I've got similar results because I still have a few trees around my cabing to either top off or cut down. I can see some 10 or 15 sec outages too but I have enough open sky that they are becoming less frequent as the antenna learns.

@Diego By looking at the Ethernet wire used with John’s Starlink he purchased a CCA (Copper Cladded Aluminum) Ethernet cable, these are Extremely poor performers for Long runs and Reliability. With John’s case he’s using it as Poe cable and CCA will not perform well if any at ALL with power over Ethernet which is probably the culprit with your difficulties with length. When buying Ethernet cables read the description and make sure to get PURE Copper which will easily run around 300ft with Poe without issue. Edit: I would not be surprised if he has continuing issues. Be Warned! 😅

Just make sure everyone keeps their devices updated with the latest software and firmware! Also, I wonder if there is somehow interference happening where multiple people in the area within close proximity, are experiencing conflicts with one another. I will say there is three routers here, but if there is more we don't know about, or more neighbors expand to starlink, might be better just to get a meshed network so it can cover large areas more efficiently but that would mean merging you and the neighbors starlinks into mesh nodes. That or getting extenders but I am not sure if extenders would work or cause more noise. I am not too familiar with the hardware of starlink but this is just me thinking out loud.

They sell little square plastic cable supports that you put tie wraps through after going around the cable. The one I use around my furnace have double back tape to make them stick to furnace but they must sell one with holes to secure them with screws or you could just drill a hole through them and use a screw to secure them to the tree . Just make sure you use UV rated tie wraps or they fall apart after a year or so .that way there is no pressure on the cable and good luck.

This service requires a huge constellation of rocket launched satellites and a lot of equipment on the ground too as well as bandwidth to the national backbones. I'm not at all upset they want money for maintaining that. It is absolutely game-changing in some areas of the US where it is not even remotely feasible to bring DSL much less fiber. Subsidized services for small nations may make sense. That's really infeasible for a land mass this large IMO.

(computer tech here) watching the conduit and the wire, it is more than possible that some of the wire in the cable snapped with those bends as it went up. Not saying it was possible, but having the conduit in place with a string or 2 in it, then when up, pull the cable through it would a much less chance of braking the metal in the cable.
@PremonitionOfTheSonsOfGodАй бұрын
You could just add a pole at the top of the tree. Do it in sections replace the cord that would be a less expensive option than replacing the whole thing.

Tyler is a power lineman. So his belt is different. He only has the belt, the guys that do trees have ropes. They work better for trees and have fall protecting built in ( i believe), and Tylers hooks are a bit shorter than the other guys.

Is your buffering a recent thing or has it been doing that since you got it? If it’s a recent thing the crimp in your wire even though it’s not to bad, any impedance on a cat wire or normal cable wire it will cause an issue. I would try to change the wire and see if it helps. The bad thing about star link is that it uses cat wire which is just a bigger gage phone wire. That’s the reason AT&T cable doesn’t really exist anymore it’s basically a more modern version of dialup.

I don’t think the movement is the issue - they are used at sea plus yours (like mine) has multiple antennas in it to allow for these simple movements. I power cycle mine weekly to make sure any updates are forced. Check your obstruction map. Also I am really worried about how much that cable pinched. Are you getting packet loss?

Enough bendwidth to share... But you would need to build a distribution network.... Newer unit seems nice, importantly the cabling not being the goofy usb one used by the Gen2.... But it has to be pointed correctly....

Length specially with cat5 cable you don’t want to exceed more then 150-200ft the ohms are to small to allow the signal to travel that far. Think of it as a wave in the ocean. It might start out 20ft tall way out but as it gets closer to the shore the smaller the wave gets till there’s nothing

You need to cut the tops off of surrounding trees so the starling mounted tree is the tallest in its nearest circle of trees. If this is a cost issue, make it a long term project over however many number of months your financials require.

I've got the Starlink v2. My suggestion other than put dishy higher up, would be to put the starlink router into bypass mode and buy a different router. I went Starlink router in bypass mode > WAN > TP-Link WIFI 6 (AX5400) router. My speed improved dramatically. The overall coverage, signal, and stability got better as well. I like that the TP-link router has 6 moveable antennas vs. just the internal ones that the Starlink router has. I was getting 80-130 with the Starlink router and okay coverage. Now I'm using the AX5400 as my main router and it's constantly 250+ with very strong coverage. I did join a Facebook group about starlink and I'm so glad I took the bypass router advice on board as it's been fantastic ever since. It's a game changer.

I don’t have Starlink so maybe this is just a dumb comment but when you say their models are two years newer than yours, it may be bugs in the software from the older model, or maybe a hardware issue from the older model, that is causing your intermittent connection issues. I would try getting the newest model there is and replace it.

Movement doesn't cause that. Mines mounted on my van and performs flawlessly while moving down the road. There's something wrong with your dish. Have you contacted Starlink about it? They will be able to see exactly what's happening and it's not uncommon for them to identify a problem and send you a new kit. In fact, I'm predicting that's exactly what they will do. But you have to open a ticket first.

Hi, I use to sell and install the big 10 foot dish as well as direct TV and one that was around for a short time called Primestar. Your problem with your signal blockage that i can almost bet money on, is the trees around yours. You probably know height has nothing to do with signal. The antenna just has to have a 100% unobstructed view of the satellite it is focusing on and these satellites move continusouly so as soon as the one it is tracking gets low enough where line of those other trees blocks it the antenna starts looking for another. You need to eirher get rid of the trees surrounding or put it higher.

Yeah the Antenna is PoE powered and getting that out to the very edge of the 100M ethernet spec is not always a sure thing. It looks like you are using other cables on the 2nd install which don't have the weather protection the provided cable does. The connections can corrode if they are exposed to air moisture so something to keep in their mind. There may be some greases that could be used to mitigate that.
