I like how careful you are securing everything in your truck bed. That's important but often skipped by others.

Diego,have you given any thought to applying wood preservative to your wood. It seems that you are in a very moist climate and preservative would be a great addition. I used it in my boat and it was fantastic. Love your channel and keep up the good work. Chris from Western Australia

hey, just a tip, buy a IBC container, cut the top of, use the plastic part to transport wood/gravel/sand and the metal part as a wood drying rack. I cut my IBC on the exact hight of my truck bed cover.

My guess is your sill plate is rotten all around that cabin. Too much moisture in that area. My cabin had the same problem. Too many trees and no sun, hard to avoid rot.

Diego you should put an electric outlet next to the garage door then you don’t have to lug the generator in and out.

What a lovely place on earth, if I were a young man I would move to the area and build myself a log cabin. But unfortunately it's too late, I'll soon be 80 years old.

Gotta watch when carrying the buckets of gravel as if you get into an emergency situation and have to brake the pails will come flying forward and wreck the front of your truck box. Do not ask me how I know this but after I put a 2x6 in the ear groves of the truck box sides to make a little separate area at the tailgate of the box.
@rayboucher4796 сағат бұрын
Why would you not just fill with the concrete then just set the rebar in and sink it about 1/2 way and then smooth it out ? I have never liked the concrete saddles myself . Never seen anyone use saddles for rebar in a foundation .

Use the metal, you can order in any length you want… no waste. Personally, I’d run the metal vertically from skirt to soffit.. at least on the back side. Can’t wait to see you progress on this project.

This maybe odd but a my lake cabin I made gutters out of 3" PVC pipe cut in half. 90's and tees& coupling made for cheap gutters compared to commercial stuff.

It’s better to make the top cover for the rebar bigger than the bottom cover to resist the tensile force generated at the bottom of the foundation. And if you want to reduce the punching shear force add two rebar like a letter (X)

Is frost heaving not a thing where you are? I'd be concerned that those footings don't extend below the frostline.
@jakleo3378 сағат бұрын
I've watched all 3 of these foundation repair vids. I don't see you going down below the frost line with your new posts. Your big pads on top of the native soil is less than ideal, as long term stability is compromised. Better to dig smaller, deeper (2-4 ft. depending on local conditions) post holes that will not frost heave. A new quick method is to have a guy come with a special tool and drill in big steel screw type anchors as deep as needed. Then go back and attach your wood beams well above the wet ground.

Hard work but it will pay at the end. Keep up the Good work.
@garykidd44688 сағат бұрын
idealy you want the rebar in the bottom 1/3 of the footing. you could have tied the rebar to the chairs and turned them on their sides and then tied your cross peices on the ones tied to the chairs. this would have dropped your rebar into the desired level in the footing. but it will work like you did it.

You're probably exhausted with sofa-surfer advice, but after you get the cabin reinforced back there, you should replace that slider if it's not already double pane.
@jeffg.6798 сағат бұрын
When you decide on the gutter, order 4x6. And put oversized down pipes on each end. Look into gutter screen to keep needles and debris out. It works.

Hey Diego I was just wondering why did you just get a full truckload of gravel that way you could have the extra if you need it for somewhere else that way you don't have to make several different trips back and forth just a thought
@GregBrown-ln8jm9 сағат бұрын
You have a lot of trees. Gutters are a huge waste of time and a rip off. They collect and buildup waste and create maintenance issues forever. Better to have gutters only over cabin doors and silder. Then create French drains, rock/gravel and grading to pull the water away from the cabin. The two feet of metal siding is a great idea.

Gutters need a screen to protect the leaves or tree sticks out of it.
