I’m at about 27 months with my AK coating and it’s still holding up very well. I did the recommended prep + 2 coats. As you said, proper maintenance and conditions are huge factors when it comes to durability. I am fortunate to have covered parking at home and at work to limit exposure to the elements.

"He's Pan the Organizer's brother" 😂 I feel the love. Considering our harsh winters, the fact this vehicle was kept outdoors 24/7, not to mention the no-touch carwashes it went through - I would say +18months of decent protection is good. Now that your brother has a house, no more excuses - keep it tight/keep it clean! Have a great weekend Guys.

Hello Pan, I thought I would share my 2 year update on my wife's 2020 Kia Optima. After watching your video and reading reviews on AvalonKing, I decided to try it myself. The results were amazing, easy to use and here we are 2 years later and the water still beads!!! I live in the Chicago area and as most know, the conditions throughout the year can be extreme cold to heat excessive. The only difference here is, the car is well maintained by me and garage kept. I will re-do the coating again next year to give it a fresh look.

Thank you Pan and Andy for the great update. I agree the automatic car wash is most likely the problem. 30 month ago, I put one coat of AK on my Tesla after polish and IP clean. Washed Car this morning before seeing your video and it is still going strong to my surprise. Environment is everything. Two Chicago winters, but Garage kept, Hand washed every 3-4 weeks and 13k miles a year (retired). Added topper from AK last spring and today when drying. Strong beading before topper was applied. Happy with AK, but will use a longer lasting coating next time due to the long prep time (wash, decon, clay bar, polish, IP). AK was very easy to apply. Only 1 coat do to time. Contacted AK about this was told second coat was only to insure full coverage.

Hi guys, great info! I like the review from your point of view - applied by Andy under your supervision, only 2 proper maintenance washes, no regular eg. 'reload' application, parked outside, two harsh Canadian winters. Considering all that I guess even those 18 months is good. Usually the reviews are with perfect regular maintenance washes and deacons every 3-6 months, parked in a garage. So I appreciate your real life review. 👍🙂

Hi Andy. Yes, Pan, it was my very first coating I applied. It was what you said easy. I got about 1 year and a few months of protection. Having experienced this coating, I've moved on to coatings that are more durable. And.....if you put 2 coats of AvalonKing on the paint, it's more work and not that inexpensive. So if I'm going through the prep time and polishing, I'm going to reach for something better. Thanks, AvalonKing, for exposing me to coatings. Appreciate the update, Pan.

Applied the AK to 2 cars and 1 motorbike. 1st car '04 Lexus ES, religiously did the whole prep, took me 2 days for the whole thing, 1 coat. That was November 2021 so now we're almost 2 years and the coating is almost as the first day. Then I did the bike. Brand new Panigale v4, unfortunately I didn't do anything besides a good wash and light hand polish since it was out the box and not used. That failed miserably within couple of months. However I feel like I applied it over some wax or something. Both the Lexus and the Ducati are garaged. Then March 2022 I did '07 Mercedes. Did everything besides a cut (didn't need it). Except the roof top everything else is good so I assume I stuffed it up there. Also 1 coat. Overall I think it is a matter of PREP and then garaging and maintaining. The Mercedes sleeps outside. Except the bike that gets only handwash at home, the 2 cars mostly get a touchless wash in the carwash.

Hey Pan, I have this coating on my Camaro. Applied in July 2021 with two coats, the car was “daily driven” 5-6k miles until September 2022 when i got another car and the Camaro spent nights exclusively in the garage with regular maintenance washes and ceramic toppers every couple weeks. The coating is still beading and sheeting very well. But I can see this may not be the best coating for those that don’t have the ability to regularly maintain.

Hello from Chicago! You keep tempting me with ceramic coatings. I’m still using JescarColinite combo. However, on October 11th, 2023, it was time to test the difference between Jescar ULTRALock and POWERLock. UltraLock was applied on left side of hood. PowerLock on right side. Great video, Pan, thanks for sharing! I've personally had mixed results with AvalonKing; one of my vehicles made it to about 14 months, and the other is at almost 3 years, and still seems to be working. Both vehicles are garaged, have regular maintenance washes and toppers applied, and are driven year-round, in harsh Saskatchewan winters and blistering hot summers. Hard to figure out why the vehicles had such different durability, but that could be due to many different factors. That being said, for the price of the product (if you use their Black Friday deals, for example, you can save a fair bit of cash if you buy multiple kits) and the ease of application, it's definitely worth the money. Anyhow, thanks again for sharing, and keep up the great content!

ANDYYYY. Celebrity appearance! Great video Pan. We definitely were curious about the 2 year update. And honestly, I'm sure Andy's a busy man, but this is the type of experimenting we want to know! Will consumer grade ceramic coatings hold on for the "average joe, er andy"? Obviously for us being on this channel, we aren't really the "average person" when it comes to washing cars but I love seeing videos like this that thought about all factors basically. Maintenance is key it seems! I guess for a ceramic coating you can buy yourself, a year and half -ish of protection is alright. Those automatic carwashes will definitely ruin your car. If you pay for a professional ceramic coat job, you best do maintenance washes or you'll waste your money!

I don't think this is a bad result, considering the price point and the fact Andy didn't do any meaningful maintenance for two years. I got two years out of it with a well maintained car. The thing is, if you are going to go to the trouble of a multi-stage detail to add a ceramic coating, there are products available now that are as easy to apply, and will last longer, as you said in the video. At the time AvalonKing put together a good marketing campaign with a cool looking, inexpensive and easy to use product. It'll be interesting to see their next move.

I applied Avalon's armor shield approx. 16 months ago, and after one Canadian winter and two summer's, the hydrophobics are still going strong. This could be due to the fact, that I also finish with a ceramic topper after washing. As for the glass, that's a different story. There is understandably, no protection left there. Overall, I've been very pleased with the results and would recommend this product for diy'ers. I would suggest they provide a better applicator with their product, such as a microfiber applicator pad, and larger in size than the tiny foam block and silk cloth that came with the kit.

Hi Guys; thanks for the video. I also applied AK, about two years ago, one quick question if I may, if Andy's car has no coating left, would you still need to polish before applying some other kind of coating?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
It’s a case by case scenario. If you’re absolutely certain there is no protection left, as is the case with Andy’s car, you can just do a decon wash, skip polishing (as the paint still looks great), do an IPA wipe and then apply a new coating. If you still have a bit of water beading left, it means there is still some protection left and at that point you’d have to machine polish to ensure 100% removal of any previous protection, then IPA wipe and then apply the new coating.

Hi Pan! Long time watcher of your channel, and love your videos. I learnt all my detailing processes from you, and now work as a detailer. On your recommendation I bought applied Armour Shield XI (on special) to some vehicles here in Australia, but found they were failing after just a few month. I did only use a single layer but I was meticulous with the application, including a double IPA wipe after polish. I expected 12 Months + real world durability. This happened on 3 separate vehicles, using two different bottles of Armor Shield XI. After 3 months I had to polish and apply a different coating to each of them (NV Nova Pro) which has now been going strong for over a year now. Maybe I got a bad batch, but I expect that the product is just not very good. I wanted to leave this here as I know you appreciate good products, and this one doesn't live up to the PAN standards that I've come to expect.

Thanks for sharing your experience Ian. Yeah two layers are recommended with AS9 to reach greater durability. But I know AvalonKing is really taking all the feedback from viewers and customers over the last years and hopefully will come up with a greatly improved version in the future. 👍🏻

Accolades to you and brother for this update. Still on the fence as to a ceramic coating this next spring? Price point & lasting durability is one issue. Question: With a ceramic coating when you get minor scratches & swirls, you end up paint correction & end up remove the coating? As a beginner past 2 yrs used TW Ceramic Acrylic Black Polish & TW Ceramic Spray Coating. Great results with continuous sheeting well into early summer. This is with rough winters & weekly Mister Car Wash here in Eastern Wa. I do reply the TW ceramic spray 1-2 monthly after a wash. ~ Thanks ~

Paint correction will end up removing any paint protection, including coatings. If you have just VERY light love marks, you can use this polish: bit.ly/45Oq7Py It was designed for very minor corrections on coated vehicles.

Hi Pan, I was expecting to see how you was going to go forward with your brothers car. Did you give it a quick polish/jeweling after washing OR just wash and put another coating on?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
It’s a case by case situation. In his case, as there is literally no protection left, all that needs to be done is a decon wash like we did here, IPA wipe down and we can apply a new coating. If you still have a bit of protection left (you still get a bit of water beading), then you need an additional step of machine polishing to ensure 100% removal of the previous protection, then IPA wipe and then you apply the coating.

Unfortunately, where I live in Montreal, big trucks and pickups aren't a popular choice. That's more of the Western part of Canada in the Prairies where they love their trucks. So most of my customers have higher end luxury cars. After 26 years of detailing, I focus on higher end more costly jobs, so the cars that fit that bill are usually more expensive and newer. But if I get a pickup one day, I'll make a video for sure. Techniques aren't really different, it's just bigger. And for tools, I made a video on work platforms and extendable poles here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJSQaZ1mm7Cjb7ssi=UjA44R5FMmdCrUgr

As I'm looking at my new to me, uncoated car I'm absorbing as much as I can, these videos are great, many many thanks. question: you said "don't let water dwell"... you mean rain?.. I'm in the south west UK, inland, the car lives outside so it's wet for 4+ months of the year (it's why in the UK cars die of rust). Our rain isn't acidic, it's comes off the atlantic gulf stream, no factories or power stations upwind of us.. can that really be that bad?

When applying a new ceramic coating, most companies have a curing time where the vehicle must NOT be exposed to ANY water or rain during the curing time. For this coating, it needs 48 hours with zero exposure to water.

The vehicle has already been properly decontaminated, and no polishing is needed here. We are at bare virgin clear coat. Paint looks great, so if you can avoid polishing (removes a thin layer of clear coat each time), might as well preserve the clear coat, if you are sure there is no protection left behind. So we can jump into a nice prep wash with a decon shampoo, do an IPA wipe, and apply a new coating. Stay tuned.

The "somewhat said, somewhat unsaid" takeaway for any form of protection on a car or truck is this - maintain it with regular washing with good products. Can even get more life out of waxes and sealants that way. I've become really disappointed with a few local detailers and a few KZbin channels who hype ceramic coatings as something that is maintenance free and use "never wash your car again" kind of statements. That is not realistic and the coating just won't last as advertised.

When a ceramic coating is at end of life, do you just put another one on or do you need to do stuff to your paint first?
@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer 11 ай бұрын
It depends. If there is zero coating left like in this video, no water beading, you could just: 1) use a stripping shampoo to clean the car 2) iron remover to remove brake dust 3) claybar if the paint needs claying 4) IPA wipe 5) apply the new coating The other scenario is where there’s still a bit of protection left (i.e. there’s water beading left), then you would need a light machine polish to remove the previous protection (above and beyond the other steps above), then IPA wipe then apply the new coating.

Great video Pan and it's nice seeing you and your brother bonding again. By the way I wanted to ask something but didn't know how to message you so I'll just comment it here. There is this car shampoo from Kochchemie and its called "Autoshampoo" or "AS" it is a Ph 9.0 and recently I've been curious. Is "Snow Foam" different from "Car Shampoo"? I want to suggest maybe you are interested to make a video regarding "Snow Foams" or "Shampoo" are they the same or not. I was confused because the Kochchemie "Autoshampoo" has a description saying it is "High foaming" so.. maybe it can be used in a bucket and at the same time in a foam cannon? Will it be as foamy as other snow foams when used in a foam cannon? Maybe you are also interested to compare the Autoshampoo and the Active Foam of kochchemie :D

@PanTheOrganizer
@PanTheOrganizer Жыл бұрын
It depends if there is still coating left or not. In Andy’s case, decon wash and IPA spray will be enough. If you still have a bit of beading left, you would have to at least do a light polish to ensure 100% removal of any previous protection so the new coating can bond correctly to the clear coat. So wash, chemical decon, clay if needed, light polish, IPA wipe and recoat.
