Thank you for this 2 year update, this sort of long term experience really weeds out the "honeymoon" phase of a pen.

Hi there, @Mick, you must be approaching four years with the Bronze Age now. Time to continue the love story and bring us an update? Would love to see another from you!😀

Great to get an update on the Visconti. I remember when you purchased the pen. It's sounds like you're getting your money's worth from it. I'm glad the Visconti Homo Sapiens is getting so much use and giving so much enjoymenht.

I always appreciate your reviews because I am a lefty as well. Writing is just different for us, especially with fountain pens. I just purchased a HS (with nib) and can’t wait to get it. Thanks for the follow-up!

I love my Homo Sapiens too! I don’t like having to clean it out for changing inks. How often do you decide to change inks? I dedicated an ink to mine, so it is permanently inked with Robert Oster Soda Pop Blue! I grabbed one of the traveling inkwells for easier filling, so I refill the pen until the inkwell runs out (2, maybe 3 fills) & then I clean the pen. That way I don’t have to clean it every time, but it still makes it into the cleaning rotation.

That depends on the ink. If it’s an ink I love I will do a few feels… But otherwise I usually burn through a fill in less than a week so it ends up getting cleaned more than it probably should

I have the 23K two-tone fine on my Bronze Age that I bought about two and a half years ago. But since I don't use or handle it much due to having too many pens it's never gotten that cool patina on the bronze. Those things are addictive since I now have six different variants of the Homo Sapiens.

Great review! Im wondering how you clean your barrel, mine collects lint and I can’t find a way to successfully clean it off! Thanks!

Buying a Visconti HS Oversize is the best financial mistake that I have ever made in my entire life. Other than buying mechanical keyboards, of course.

As this is a vac filler, do you have to twist open so the ink flows to the feed?

Do you have a video on how to maintain the pen? Like how often you have to clean it and flush it out and lube and if it can be used everyday

I just bought a Visconti Corsani Octogonal in green stacked cellouide, and it writes quite dry. I also have to keep the vac knob unscrewed for it to flow ok. Not sure why it does what it does..

I'm also a fan of cartridge convertor pens. Cleaning my Pilot 823 is one of my least favorite things to do. Great review! Like the Long term perspective.
@ctsealteam6

Have been using my custom 823 for almost 3 years now. I remove the vaccum filling plunger using a TWSBI wrench, then insert a bulb syringe to the back of the pen and start blasing water into it. Makes it much easier. (I also only use Pilot blue / Iroshizuku Take-sumi in that pen cos those ink are easy to clean and good for daily use) Too bad the homosapiens cannon do that and have to remove the nib unit instead, which is much more risky.

Know this is a long time after uploading, but this may help others as well. When you fill it, you should give it 10 seconds to suck up the ink.

Great video lovely pen. Not sure it’s for me. Cleaning could be an issue for me plus my grail journey has got to go along the Flexi nib route. That said this is a stunning pen & must be a joy to own. Not sure about the benefits of a palladium nib but get the feeling that this is the better option albeit it’s not made anymore. After seeing your recent Robert Oster green ink review bought the Tranquility ink which suits a new pen purchase perfectly. It also put me off Sublime which I don’t think is for me. 100% in agreement with Diamine Oxford Blue a convert to this colour. Didn’t catch the name of the violet ink you mentioned. Thank you D

Which ink has been your favorite in this pen?
@theoffstageme

I love Akkerman Simplistes Violet in it... it shades beautifully with this nibs flow. Another ink that surprised me was Diamine Eau de Nil with its earthy undertones lining up with that warmth of the materials.

Do you ever use shimmering inks in this pen? I'm wondering how they would perform.
@theoffstageme
@theoffstageme 3 жыл бұрын
No, I dont. I rarely use them in any pen, but the issue with shimmering inks in Vac pens/power fillers is that they are so very hard to clean out

the gold nibs are terrible. super dry. i have one. it's been nothing but grief until i got it tuned. i tried a 18k fine at the store and it wouldn't even write under its own weight. I ended up getting a medium, but it wrote terribly dry. I had it sitting around for about 6mths, barely using it only on and off once in a while. Finally got it tuned so now it's a wettish writer but that's more thanks to a local nib meister who helped me with it than the material or the nib itself. terrible for a company to send out nibs that don't write or don't write well. absolutely terrible. I'm nevery buying another visconti again.

Which ink and paper did you use? Could it have been that? You’re not the first one to comment like this though, so it’s really worrisome. I’m thinking about it... and your kind of comments really put me off. It’s not a cheap pen either, so it’s insane to receive a faulty product at this price point!

@@kencur9690 I used Diamine Earl Grey and I was writing on Stalogy paper the 365 editor's series A5 notebooks. It's not Tomoe River but it's also not copier paper and it's not moleskine paper :/

@@knanaki well, diamine can be problematic: perhaps you should use only the standard washables, waterman being the safest bet. Still, it’s frustrating to spend so much and be so limited. I personally like the standard inks, but I understand how some might find them boring. In any case, I’ve reached an agreement with the seller: I don’t mind if the pen is picky, but if it doesn’t work properly with any ink, including the safe inks and good paper, then I’m returning it. I’m not spending that kind of money for a faulty nib! Thanks for answering, by the way.
@knanaki

@@kencur9690 before the Diamine Earl grey which I thought is supposed to be a well liked and well behaved ink because it's the Reddit fountain pens group ink selection, I also used MB corn poppy red and Noodler's cactus fruit (from the lubricated eel series?) And both also came out a lot thinner compared to when I used them in other pens... So it was definitely the Visconti nib, not the ink
@knanaki
@knanaki 3 жыл бұрын
@@kencur9690 anyway, good luck with your Visconti purchase!! Great that you have such an understanding seller! Mine tried to gaslight me into thinking the fault was with me and not the pen... Super angry about that too... So many unresolved issues... -_-"
