I can't say this was a grail pen for me. Namiki Maki-e pens and Namiki Chinkin pens were my grail pens of choice. But I absolutely love the Bronze age. I think it's the most beautiful business class pen on the market, it writes like a dream, and I love the way it feels in my hand. There are three pens I carry every day, no matter what, the Bronze Age, a Scribo Feel, and, an odd choice, a Kaweco Brass Sport with a gold nib. I rotate a couple of other pens, and I carry a cheap pen, usually a TWSBI ECO as a giveaway pen, but these three are with me all the time, everywhere I go. I love the weight of the Bronze Age. If you learn to let the pen do the work, a heavy pen is better for long writing sessions than a light pen. You have to constantly control a light pen, constantly grip it, but all you have to do is guide a heavy pen. A heavier pen also works much better with a soft gold nib. The nib is supposed to act as a shock absorber, and it needs some weight behind it to do this properly. I've used the Bronze Age for twelve hours, with an hour off for lunch, and had no problems. I was a professional writer for most of my life, and used a fountain pen for more than twenty years, so I was well accustome to writing all day, but I found it imposssible until I learned how to use a soft gold nib, and switched to a heavier pen. Fatigue and cramping just disappeared. Anyway, yes, the Bronze Age is a wonderful pen. and more than worthy of being anyone's grail pen.

12 hour handwriting sessions are indeed impressive. What did you write?

What an interesting observation you made about a heavier pen. I personally like a heavier pen, and what you say makes a lot of sense. I'm thinking now that a heavier pen is better for stubs, italics, etc. You're the second writer on KZbin that has endorsed the HS Bronze Age. Are there specific reasons you carry those 3 particular pens? Being a huge fan of OMAS, a Scribo is on my list for next year.

That's a pen on my grail list, but I guess my Custom Urushi will remain the top pen even after owning the Visconti. Still this pen attracts me and would be a nice addition to my Italian collection. Thanks for a nice review.

Thanks for watching! And both of those are very grail-worthy pens! Never tried the Urushi, but I've always been amazed by it, it's a stunner!

This pen exudes power and tempts me, but there are features that dissuade me. 1) No ink window. You must guess how much ink remains. 2) The filling system is impressive but I much prefer a simple CC design for ease of cleaning, and I am skittish about complex systems that require expertise to repair. Thanks for an excellent review.

This is my grail pen. I know it may not be the best but I absolutely love the look and what else can you say but it's made from a Volcano. Cant wait until I get one myself.

I want to buy one. Trying to decide on normal HS or Crystal Dream or Dark Crystal HS. Thoughts?
@thestationerydev9 күн бұрын
I mean, if you have the money, I would say go for one of the ones with an ink window. That's really the only downside to the original, is that you never really know when you're going to run out of ink.

Not my grail pen by any means, but it's an ok pen for daily use. I own two Homo Sapiens, a BA and a DA.

Another very well done review. Thanks.Be wary of the term European sizing. Nibs can vary quite a bit between European brands. Even ammongst companies who have their nibs custom made by Bock and Jowo. Just saying. Looking forward to your next review 👍
@thestationerydev Жыл бұрын
Thanks, I appreciate it! And yeah, may e "western sizing" is more apt, but it's just a general distinction anyways to differ from the consistently finer sizes of Japanese pens.

I'm wondering if I should get this one or the Dark Age version with a 23k palladium nib. Any reccomendations?
@thestationerydev2 жыл бұрын
Going off what I've heard about them both, the gold nibs tend to be more consistent and have better QA. If you do go for the Palladium, I would either buy used/secondhand or from a seller that includes a tune/smooth option, just so you know that the nib is going to write as it should.

Good review. Very nice pan but for me the lack of ink window is the no go. If it had an ink window where that brass band in the middle of the pen I would be out to get one like a shot.
@thestationerydev Жыл бұрын
They have a few models now with ink windows, like the Skylight and the Crystal Dream. Unfortunately they do come at even more of a premium, but it might be worth it for you for that feature.
@belphegor_dev4 ай бұрын
Almost no pens of note these days have ink windows. They're tacky and of questionable utility.
