Their tones sound very, very similar to my ears. I think during the clean tones demo, the USA version sounds quieter, but the tones between the two are still nearly identical. Great demo

This was my impression. They sound the same except the USA seems quieter across the board. I have to wonder if a setting was changed somewhere in the post-guitar signal chain, or if the pickup heights were lower on the USA. The problem seemed to go away once overdrive/distortion was engaged.

Seemed to me that the volume on the USA was turned down during the clean tones but other than that I thought they sounded pretty much the same. When the crunch was added I thought there was a couple of times the 20k sounded better and a couple of times that the USA sounded better. Bottom line for me is exactly what the guy said, if you want a good 50's style LP that is gonna do the out of phase sound thing then get it, it's going to be a good playing guitar. If you're the collector guy that wants the exact replica, then you're gonna have to come up with the 20k.

On gibson site says "Custom Greeny Bucker with Flipped Alnico 2 Magnet; Reverse Mounted" for 20K model and "Greenybucker with Reversed Magnetic Polarity; Reverse Mounted" for the standard, so not the same pickups.

@That Rhythm Man Guitars its a nice guitar but are the pick ups worth the extra cost of a faded 50s les paul?
@ThatRhythmMan
@ThatRhythmMan Жыл бұрын
You could certainly grab a faded 50s and add a set of Monty’s Bethnal Green pickups and be a couple of hundred ahead. I’m sure you would lose that money and maybe more if you decided to sell though. The Burstbuckers in the faded 50s are okay pickups, but I do find the Greenybuckers to be better.

That’s not even close. Were these normalized for volume? Pickups the same distance from the strings? The USA sounds flat and lifeless but is it about overall volume output or is it about the guitars themselves. Is it a $17K difference? Of course not. But the Murphy sounds legit like an old guitar.

I think the weight makes a huge difference. I have a '91 classic 8.3lb and a '97 standard 10lb. The '91 sounded very similat to the 20k greeny in thr video i.e. resonates more than the '97 in my case. Which is cool by me cause then i can justify keeping both guitars as they both sound and feel different. The '97 great for blues and classic rock while classic great for hard rock/metal.

youtube compresses the sound, your computer/phone isnt exactly the source for the best fidelity, then the pickups and hardware are virtually the same...so there shouldnt be any difference that the average youtube viewer could hear.

Sounds like if the USA model was not all the way up on 10 (knobs), the difference is massive. I was expecting a very close difference but the Custom Shop one has way more resonance. Something is not ok here.

The volume and tone were up all the way for both guitars. I would say that the $20k version was made of wood that was a bit more resonant.

I mean it's pretty much a standard USA vs custom shop LP. the USA will always be a 2-3 piece body, no hide glue, short neck tenon, and be heavier. The custom shop will be the most accurate LP in terms of construction and small details like the plastics, pickup rings, knows and headstock shape. Especially the newer 2019+ historics since the new custombuckers sound so good

The $20k sounds better - it should do! But neither comes close to replicating either Peter Green’s or Gary Moore’s tones, here at least … Alan Dingwall has the Greeny tone nailed with his pickups ;)
@fj5144
@fj5144 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, because to get the Moore or Green tone you need Gary Moore or Peter Green as both their tone comes from their fingers & souls. You can copy a guitar or copy a player's style, pedalboard, or songs but nothing beats the real thing!

@@fj5144 Sadly, neither Peter nor Gary are alive now and for those wishing to channel something of their touch and tone, having the right gear is essential so the pickups are a crucial component in that aim.

Not really sure what people expect from these shootouts. Didn’t we just go through the Klon Centaur vs Bad Monkey thing ? There is no objective difference which cannot be attributed to different guitars here ie: 2 Les Pauls will sound slightly or sometimes even very different and not because of their price. Fascinating maybe but it’s been done to death - if ure a guitar buyer, rest assured, there are plenty of sub $1000 guitar for sale that will b just as good and maybe even better than more expensive ones - and if you are a guitar lover, then there are pieces that you would just dream of playing and if u have the $, owning and not because they’re objectively better.

And it's only 47 000 dollars more to get a thicker sound. The reality is they sound very close and with the stranded if you want a thicker sound roll down the tone knob or lower the treble on the amp and turn up the mids or change the pickup heights. I am not a believer and using the same settings in comparison videos as this is not how we use them in the real world. Everytime a switch guitars even going from one les paul to another even if they have the same pickups I always make amp adjustments I have seen people on guitar forums talkng about neo they got new pickups and decided they did not like them without even attempting to adjust their amps. You know the types who say I don't have time for that because it takes away from playing because I am a real guitar player who does not avoid playing by Wasting time with distractions such as Turing a amps treble pot up or down and the whole you guys waste time adjusting amps because you can't play. The same ones who post comments on forums talking about how people waste their time posting on forums instead of playing I am a real guitar player who spends his time playing not posting even though I am posting on a forum complaining about others posting while not playing. Then you look at their profile and they are a gold or sliver supporting member of the forum have been a member for for 15 years and have a post count of over 10 000 posts but they are real players who don't waste tien on forums. They also assume any new forum member is a teenager who Is a guitar newbie even if your 20 years older then them and having been playing longer.
