@j_freed Жыл бұрын
I think the neck pickup was reversed (rotated) by some repair tech, maybe not intentionally... yet the bar magnet polarity for that pickup is flipped 'from the factory' as you say. (Swapping out different strength and different type Alnico 2, 5 etc bar magnets on PAFs is common on guitar forums.) I suppose just flipping any neck or bridge pickup magnet will create the inverse phase cancellation effect compared a normal Gibson 2x PAF setup. The neck pickup rotation affects the positioning of the adjustable polepieces so this also puts the emphasis on a different portion of the strings, one has to guess. Someone should AB test what effect this has!

Actually, they put a reverse polarity magnet in there so that you could wire it for push pull out of phase, however, the burst buckers that being said are good pick ups overall, but they certainly don’t compare at $299 now that they are for sale to the X for Peter Green rolling man or the whiz so there are now many options out there boutique for Not much more if not the same price as the pick ups that they’re selling in this guitar and if I spent $3000 on this guitar I would put much better pick ups in it without a doubt because these are close but they are definitely not replicated. Compared to the Greeny, a Faded Les Paul is less-$2299, but the color is a bit off. A set of Greenybuckers is $299. So, not counting install price, we're up to $2698. No matter which one you get, the retailer will probably knock off a few hundred, so that all evens out. We're talking a difference of three hundred without install. But based on what I'm seeing, the Kirk Hammett Greeny, (not considering the pickups), is a slight upgrade over the Standard Faded. I think it's worth the extra $300. Say what you will, but I think the Gibson company has really put their Les Paul Standards back on the map. All of them are worth a serious look. I also favor unpotted pickups on Les Pauls. I've been looking to add a guitar to my arsenal. The Suhr Modern, and the Les Paul Standard are the two I'm looking at. The Les Paul is coming in at around 1k less. I'd try to get a used Suhr w/ mahogany/maple, as opposed to Basswood/maple. That puts me in the used market for Suhrs. Consistency with Les Pauls has improved, especially since 2022 up to now. Suhr has been a model of consistency for years; albeit an EXPENSIVE one. Nice Demo! Thank you! You both can't seem to hide your feelings on this one. It's definitely worth a close look!

Gary Moore modified his guitar to suit his preferences, using different knob covers on the potentiometers so he could feel the difference by touch rather than by sight. He also stated that he didn't care about its appearance; he just wanted to damn well play the guitar and not keep it for a collection. It worked for him, and I think it's absurd to have different knob covers on a regular release. He easily sold that guitar, not caring if he played on any other custom 1959; he could have played an Epiphone, and he'd still be Gary, the greatest guitarist of all time. When it comes to out-of-phase, I've never met anyone who likes the middle position on an LP, and many guitarists say it's unusable. But with the out-of-phase, it's a completely different story; it sounds almost like a Strat. Kirk Hammett says so too, and I've confirmed it myself that the guitar sounds really nice in the middle position with the reverse phase.
