Superb video. I recently purchased the 2022 V4S after 20 years of riding BMW GS and GSA's. It's difficult to make a side-by-side comparison but thus far the Ducati is a superior bike for long distance rides. I have not and will not take the Ducati off road, but the highway performance is far superior to the BMW -- less buffeting and better acceleration. I am a 76 year old BMW advocate, but the Multistrata V4 S is a worthy competitor.

I have the 2023 Multistrada Rally, mostly used for sports touring with some gravel in rural areas. Love the Multistrada!!!! My first big bike over 1000cc!! I was parked next to a V4 and we were comparing the bikes and it looks like Ducati made some slight changes to the evaporation canister. I wasn't aware of the issue and the V4 rider mentioned he had some problems with the evap canister. He looked at my Rally and said it appeared the evap canister was slightly different. I haven't had any issues, but had read about overfilling the tank causing vapor lock so I don't try to fill too full. Plus with the 7.9 gallon tank, I have 250-300 miles per tank depending on type of riding so i don't have to fill to the rim. Glad to hear that even after 20,000 miles you still love the bike.

It's great to hear you're getting such good mileage from your rally, I have been toying with the idea of getting the large gas tank for my v4s. $250 to 300 miles per tank seems perfect for some of the road trips I take. I wouldn't be surprised if Ducati did make iterative changes to the evap canister, they are continuously improving their products as they go which is something I'm not upset about. Glad you're enjoying your Mult, thanks for watching!

After lusting Multistradas for a number of years, I succumbed to the temptation last fall when a 2023 Rally arrived at a nearby dealership. Such an amazing motorcycle that in my opinion would be close to perfect if Carplay was in play. A previously owner Africa Twin Adventure Sports spoiled my with Carplay and I passed on a V4 in 2022, hoping that Ducati would heed to the Sygic complaints from owners. I did buy a Carpuride for my Tiger 900 Rally Pro, which works well, but still would prefer avoiding the add on. Thanks for your vids Chris! Keep up the good work.

Nice honest review. I may have commented on your paint/decal scheme in one of your other videos, it looks awesome. Be interesting if Ducati, and other manufacturers, will simply have their bikes work with Apple CarPlay (or the Android version like the Goldwing does) which would make life easier. The low gas mileage is a bit shocking, but 95% of Adventure riders are usually not that far from a gas station. And once you reach a certain age you're going to be stopping every hour and a half to take a break anyways.
@TacticalHamsterDance4 ай бұрын
Yeah, that is kinda disappointing. Android Auto is such a great app and works perfectly on cars! Instead, bike makers want to bind you to an app that is probably not as good as what you use, and in some cases you need to pay extra (really, KTM?). But now Chinese started putting Android Auto to their cheap bikes, so I hope it'll change soon.

Chris thanks for the vid.. I love the Ducs. I have a 1200S Monster and love it. I looked at the Multi to add to the table but decided against it and went with the GSA... Because of all the BS issues that you have with yours and honestly. Ducati doesn't give a **** so...I went with the Beamer. I disagree with the heat dumping on my leg, and...they go 300k miles with no problem and I can do the valve adjustment myself.... The 1200s dumps the heat on my right leg and that's another reason I decided for the GSA..... BTW, I was at GP on the monster at Duc Island all 3 days. Lunch rocked on the 3rd day. @4KMotoring5 ай бұрын
Unfortunately I've heard that the behavior of the app is directly due to requirements from Bosch, who makes the module Ducati uses. I would not expect to see any significant changes in this generation. On a side note, what fuel range are you seeing in the real world with the Rally?
@hansjorgmoser13715 ай бұрын
@@4KMotoring Re Ducati connect, I guess that Ducati tries hard because the situation sucks. Here is my consumption data: My usual range when topped up is around 280 miles. Max. range so far was 320 miles. My typical consumption is 47 - 50 mpg when riding at 3000 - 5000 rpm overland at speeds up to 68 mph (max. overland speed limit in Italy, France, Switzerland is lower). Very often, in road conditions in central Europe (narrow, twisty, small towns), my typical touring speed lays between 15 - 40 mph depending on road conditions. Very often the Rally runs on 2 cylinders in these conditions. This figure gets up to 39 mpg on highways. It is of course possible to get the consumption way up when revving higher. I do this short term when overtaking or on highways which I try to avoid. On high alpine roads (Switzerland, France, Austria) my consumption is more on the 47mpg end. I am delighted with the consumption I see!

How much does it cost to service this bike?
@4KMotoring28 күн бұрын
Which service are you referring to? The oil change intervals are at 9,000 mi and super easy to do yourself, cost me right about $100. The valve check intervals are at 36,000 mi, and this is not Desmo so it is a traditional valve check like any other bike. Realistically, compared to any modern Yamaha or Honda, you're going to be fairly close in price for routine maintenance.

Is that a BMW R1250RT behind it? Random question, if you're walking into the garage and wanting to get away from it all, which one are you more inclined to throw your leg over between the multi and the RT? And why?
@4KMotoring2 ай бұрын
Super easy question to answer, Multi all day. The RT is my work bike and I'm not overly fond of it. The boxer engine twists the chassis in a weird way, the tele-lever suspension makes the front end feel numb. The only real edge it has over the Multistrada is sheer wind protection (the multi is good, but the RT blocks everything) The Multistrada is super comfortable on long trips and has a playful character that still makes me giggle. I honestly can't think of a single scenario where I'd choose the RT over the Multistrada
@stevenszabo13062 ай бұрын
@4KMotoring interesting, thanks for the response. The local bmw and ducati dealer are a little...different...so I have only been able to test ride a used Multi V4s, and haven't been able to test ride the BMW yet at all. I would have thought that the BMW was significantly more comfortable, while the multi was significantly more sporty.

Great video and review. I have the 23 pikes peak. I had a mandatory ecu flash done and ever since that flash I have had issues with the evap system. When I bring it out of the garage and it’s a hot day I get horrible surging and the bike will stall sometimes. I’ll pull over open the tank to equalize pressure and I’m good. I’m interested in doing the bypass but can’t find any real literature on this for our bike. Do you have any suggestions? My dealer isn’t up to par…and that’s being kind, lol
@4KMotoring4 ай бұрын
I don't think it's an "official" fix, but the idea of the charcoal canister is pretty low tech. In my case, the vent line coming from my tank was disconnected letting my tank vent to atmosphere. The canister was capped off. No more problems.

My only regret with the exhaust is not doing it sooner, the little bump and power is nice, but it's that noise that makes all the difference. Great review 👍👍. You have far more kit on your bike than mine, but I think I get slightly better fuel range. I also found the full akro exhaust improved the range slightly. 100% agree with you on needing a taller 6th gear, it’s probably my only complaint except maybe for the heat. Of the three tyre types, which do you think are the best? I think it’s an incredible bike and have never regretted buying it. The amazing thing is when I tested other competitors I found them “asthmatic” when passing at high speed up long hills, especially the GS, but this doesn’t even feel the hills 😃

The tire debate is a difficult one to qualify. The Anakee Road tires really feel like a mix between the stock pirelli's and the road 6 tires. If you stay 99% on road with nothing but light dirt or gravel roads, The road 6 absolutely brings this bike to life. If you still want to maintain some slight off-roading capability, the Anakee Road get my vote.

I got delivery of a 2024 Rally in July. I have about 80 miles on it now. Everyone else praises the quickshifter so much but for me it doesn't work great. I was better when the bike was completely new. About 50% of the shifts were at least ok. Now, after 80 miles and the first service, the shifts are really clonky (as in gears slamming in) with some rare exceptions. The workshop said they couldn't see anything out of the ordinary. The shifts on my old R1250GSA were clonky - quickshifter and the boxer never went hand in hand. But the multi is almost worse. It's really a pity because the gearbox doesn't seem to like very to be shifted with the clutch either. I do think the whole bike is a bit clonky so I guess maybe I should check chain tension.

Sounds like you've got a bigger issue that needs to be worked out, these quick shifters are buttery smooth as are the gearboxes. The elephant in the room is the vibrations, which increase when the engine is working hard. This is a problem with the "Twin Pulse" ignition, causing balance issues in the engine. It's the same vibration problem found in Triumph 1200/900 engines with the T-Plane crank. The V4 engine, designed for MotoGP where twin pulse offers an advantage, produces unwanted vibrations in the seat, handlebars, and footpegs in a touring motorcycle.
@4KMotoring4 ай бұрын
Compared to the old L-Twin, I would say the vibrations are pretty minimal. Sure, it's not a sewing machine... But that's not why someone buys a Ducati?

I thought that was interesting thank you, maybe somebody at Ducati will listen. I too am an ASV lever fan. I guess I won’t be buying anyone. I have a 2024 model. I came from 2016 pikes Peak model. I missed a little start up button on the right hand side to turn the bike on. Just below the start kill button. I really dislike this switch by the handlebar. It’s not user-friendly to reach for me. Another thing I wish this bike was able to do is GP shift or reverse shift. I also wish that the heated grips were standard. Again, thanks for the video. Maybe somebody will listen.! And likewise, I also don’t use any of the BS apps, useless garbage. I did just install the xt2 today. I can’t understand why Honda has a Goldwing with Apple CarPlay and no other motorcycle does,….. I think the new road glide does maybe? Interesting you bring up gas mileage. On my way able to get 173 miles on the tank. I made it home with 5 miles to spare.

OEM's in the auto/truck industry this is standard. In today's world of high end bikes CarPlay/AndroidAuto should be standard. High HP means crap MPG, no way around that. Perhaps riding in Rain mode could improve MPG? Being chain driven, changing sprockets would be a big improvement.

Lol the car in front of me reacted far more than I would've. The Radar cruise caught it slowing down and then again moving out of the way. Also, rain mode softens throttle response which may save a bit of fuel, but cruise control acts independently of throttle maps. Doesn't matter what mode you're in if you're on cruise.
