Got to ride one of these today, offroad. It’s a marvel of technology. Like Chris said: the riding position, balance and throttle response make it easy and confidence inspiring. I LOVE that engine. I can’t get over how Ducati manages to harness face melting power and easy handling all in one power plant. If you’re coming from an older bike you immediately notice that a computer is doing your bidding. I thought I would hate that, but I don’t. It works. It helps to enjoy the motorcycle. In Enduro Pro mode the traction control allows you to steer the bike with the throttle and pull off lazy power slides with confidence, all on the stock Pirelli Scorpion STR’s. It’s really impressive, I hadn’t experienced traction control like that before. The compromise seems to be ground clearance. The V4 sits really low. When I took it over some small logs the suspension started making expensive sounds and I backed off. So I figure it’s more of a gravel racer. Would I buy this bike because it’s ‘good off-road’? Well. No. I can’t even rationalize a 170hp road bike. However, if the money is not an issue, this is one epic smiles and giggles inducing machine. It looks great, too.

Hands down the best off-road review of the V4S out there. But as an owner with less skils and weekly payments for his V4S, no way I'm putting mine out there in the woods. I would gladly trade mine for a no-electronic V4S, with 1 riding mode, no electronic suspensions and no 500$+ blind-spot detecting mirrors which I'm sure would brake on any sort of impact.
@JpOcDenver3 жыл бұрын
My guess would be they let the DesertX handle the “enduro” end of things. The V4S is the middle-ground, big adv. And the pikes peak is the Sport/Road version.

As Chris said, nobody has done it yet, so I am SO glad to FINALLY see a video with somebody really putting the V4S through its paces off-road! I've been dying to see content just like this, so thank you Chris and Bike World for putting this together - and having the bollocks to push that big, expensive bike like you did! Just one question, and I suppose it'll have to wait until you ride the V4S on-road, but my question is: V4S, 1290 SAR, or 1290 SAS? 😉
@chrisnorthover75823 жыл бұрын
Easy one for me to answer that - personally it's the 1290 Super Adventure R for me, purely based on the off-road performance, as that's where my adventure bike preference lies. Now the choice between 1290 S and the V4S is a lot tougher - like you say, I'll need a good few miles on the Ducati on road first.
