Agree, it would be really cool to have a tear down episode. My best guess : They were overheating coolant even with a good upgraded radiator. AFAIK they didn't upgrade oil cooling or add any oil temp gauges or sensors, and they didn't mention if they chose a different oil for track. Oil temps probably was through the roof especially with these turbos.

@@sirspeedsalot Yeah I agree. Like James said, biggest factor to the cars failing was boosting the cars. Imo, the biggest key factor when it comes to boosting an engine is you gotta make sure the internals could handle it especially if you're planning to push it.

@@AshS85 they had no supporting mods that's why . Non built de motors can handle about 400hp and about 380 torque my G35 has the same engine and I've been supercharged for 2 and a half years now . And I beat on the car daily .

You guys are 100% on here, the cars were good to go pre-turbo. Adding on the turbo is when all the doubt and possibility of failure entered in. I get that you did it for content and stuff, I see that, but these cars would have been a blast on-track before the turbos, and would have been more reliable. :) Track days take a lot of prep and are usually expensive. So erring on the side of reliability over a bit mo powah babeh tends to be the better way. Good series though, thanks!

@@kratos948 oh that reminds me, same track day I was on there was a guy with one of those. It did pretty good. Some would say that my car at the time wasn't worth taking to the track. It was a bolt on 2004 V6 Mustang that I had put really good rubber on and nice track brake pads. The car was able to keep plenty of cars in the rearview mirror.

It is definitely possible to build daily drivers that you can take to the track. We have hundreds of members of our CCA (Car Clubs of America) BMW Club that take their daily drivers to the track several times a year. I've been doing this for a while now with mine. I think High Car needs a large 7" intercooler. And Low Car needs... Yeah, MORE High Car parts! Next time use 335i's and you won't have nearly as many problems. They are so much better to build.

If you guys are going to continue the off-road series after the Tacoma’s, it would be awesome to see a secondary Hi-Low off-road series about who could build a better ‘90s Jeep. The box Cherokee XJ and the first-gen Grand Cherokee ZJ are cheap enough to start with. The XJ has the 4.0l l6, and the ZJ has the 4.0l as well as the 5.2l V8 (and more rare 5.9l V8 for 1998.) Cherokees have better aftermarket support, but if you’re good at welding, the ZJ can be one hell of an on-road/Offroad monster too. Either way, keep up the great work guys, keep doing what you guys do so well, and MO POWAA BABY!

I think that if Donut went with High / Low using kit cars from factory five, this would be an awesome addition to the channel. Both vehicles start with a base, then put high low parts. The biggest and only limitation to kit cars is the person building it.

@A T but yeah, why not, you search for a cheap car for build first car, nobody buy ferrari and build it for the first project, starting with the cheap car, and upgrade it with the expensive - cheap performance parts, and for 350z low car, i really hate it for a single turbo on a v engine, that doesn't feels right, i can understand when they say no cheap twin turbo, but it just doesn't feels right, for a cheap car like civic, a start with cheap car, and so many available kits on ebay, than we can see the real deal.

Really good series! But I’m guessing the breaking point for both cars were the bolt-on turbos. But I’m guessing forged conrods and forged pistons with proper compression rates for turbo charging would help bring in more horses. However, I guess there isn’t a low option for such mods.

I love this show and all these videos, and honestly it made me that much more grateful that my 2014 v6 mustang is already 305 hp. Never let anyone make you feel bad for your car, so what if I don’t have a v8? Other dudes are dropping 20k on getting close to my stock HP. I’m grateful. Hell, get two 3.7L mustangs and grab an AMR low mount budget turbo and the big expensive turbo kit there you go new hi low lol
