A passing thought - this gadget would be great for people who are in stage one of breaking a hand/oral issue (cigarettes, fingernail biting, tip touching ...). If a person does not have a hand/oral problem, this gadget could introduce a new bad habit. For general health, we want to practice keeping our hands away from our face/mouth/nose. Holding a pen, but not putting it in our mouths, would do the same thing without an ongoing subscription.

If a pot or a skillets needs a good scrub, and you do not feel like doing the scrubbing. Which leads to..Oh, I'll just leave it to soak until after dinner. Which we all know days later that pot, pan or skillet is still there soaking. I found out that if I boil plain jane water in the pan, pot, or skillet. While I am washing dishes or still cooking or finishing up the meal. The pan, pot, or skillet with a hard boil will come very clean, and no scrubbing was needed.

#1 say no to good things #2 keep up your clear zones (practice keeping your clean areas clean) #3 be the person that does stuff (trash needs taking out - do it!) #4 donation box - schedule taking it to the donation place #5 do not take free stuff (if you wouldn't buy it, don't take it.) #6 pick up the lounge blankets (fold them over the arm or put in a basket.) #7 the flat surface rule - clean up once or twice daily #8 clean up a bad habit in your life - put on a positive habit to fill the void #9 put your shoes, clothes, phone away when you come in the door #9b take all the stuff you took to your car that day inside #10 clean as you go when you cook - put away the spices when you've finished using them #11 never let dishes soak #12 make a plan, show it to your family - why do you want to be clutterfree? less stress, productivity? #13 plan for bathroom sink - shelf solves the situation? #14 clean your refrigerator - check expiry dates, make a menu plan and stick to it #15 1 minute rule - if it takes 1 minute do it - keep up, not catch up #16 plan your attack - some things take longer than a minute but only a minute to plan #17 nightly reset - never go to bed with stuff on the counters, dirty dishes - morning will be less stressful Must have missed a few. Also sorry for the punctuation - I thought it was easier to read.

If doing dishes as you cook/etc is a hard thing to build in, I'm currently building into this habit after having a bad ADHD habit of letting them doom pile. I will let a full load of dishes soak, and then when i go make a coffee, whilst the kettle is boiling, or whilst lunch is cooking, I will do the one set of dishes. I will then set another set to soak. Next time I'm in the kitchen, I do that set. And so forth. 5 minutes per kitchen trip, and you can get a surprising amount done and it makes it so much easier to start getting into the habit of cleaning as you go as everything is empty and clear and ready for new dishes. It's a good little habit to slowly get into the habit of doing them more often - with the end goal of not soaking/cleaning as you go/etc. It's a nice little hack to bridge the journey into the habit.

I like all your suggestions and regularly watch videos like this for inspiration. Most of them say not to bring things into your home that you don't need, but they usually are sponsored, and we are told about something great that we need to bring into our home. I don't think vaping flavored air is a good new habit to pick up to help someone to declutter and lead a simpler life!

Agreed 100% with everything you talked about. I used to love getting “free” stuff, which usually isn’t really free, when you have to buy something to get it. It’s such a gimmick, something you don’t need, and wouldn’t buy, and is usually lower quality. I found that when I would get the stuff, whatever it was, turned into clutter, and I’d be finding a way to get rid of it. I just love a no clutter home. You have the best tips and advice Gabe. I love your channel, thanks Gabe.

The difficulty in talking to family (or friends) about your wish to live clutter-free is the way they were raised in this buy this-buy that society of ours. You can’t tell them (for example) oh I’d just like a gift card for (this store, that restaurant) because invariably they will say (I speak from experience) “We want to buy something for you because we love you.” Equating materialism with love, eh? I did that when I was younger and more stupid with my wages. But the older I get, the less I need, the more I want everyone around me to *enjoy* their earnings, not buy me more junk to donate, or worse, get rid of.

I rode in a Tesla last December, my Uber was a Tesla. I've never been so jerked around in the back seat as I've been in that Tesla. I think the suspension is crap. And we only drove from downtown Denver to the airport. The huge sunroof sounds nice but in reality you bake inside the car unless you cover it, I confirmed it with the car owner. He said that he has a cover for it. Oh, and the neighbors across from me, who bought 2 teslas, almost never turn the lights on in the house anymore, they must have been hit with huge electric bills.

I have a lot of stuff, but i’m very organized and label everything. I’m intentional with what I buy and I try to buy things I need vs. want. Unfortunately, because of my complicated health and lifestyle, there are many things that I use to make it ‘easier’ but I try to organize everything with small organizers and stow them away to make it “look” like i’m living a minimal lifestyle until you open my drawers or closets…which is meticulously organized and easy to reach. Japan is very good at making the most out of small spaces while making it look minimal.

I have a strict rule in my car (okay, our car) that when you arrive at your destination (it doesn't matter if you drove for 20 minutes or 200 miles), then all the rubbish you have collected in the car during the journey must come out with you , ESPECIALLY if it has been near a MacDolands..so no paper cups or dropped french fries can be left behind….

Car trash: for things like gum/candy wrappers, just small stuff, we fastened a small tin bucket from the craft dept to the bar under the front passenger seat, with elastic. Tiny trash liner, leaving the rest of the roll in the bottom. It doesn't get in the way of feet. By fastening it to the passenger's left, the driver can also reach it easily. Change bag on a designated day; mine is Friday.

GOOD VIDEO ))) Chore list for myself is crucial. What did I promise someone I'd do WHEN. Prep before that. List at least 4 town chores before driving. Stuff can wait usually. Confirm open hours by phone before you drive. Eatery close an hour early? Bank NOT open at 9 or 4? Bathroom "flat" always clear. Drawers work for smalls. Run the brush in the bowl every day. Dry the shower walls with same towel you dry yourself. Glass tiles sparkle like wine glasses and save hours of decrusting lime. Dust the floor with same and toss in washer NOW. Kitchen flats still need help ))). See cruds on the carpet? Vac NOW. Close cabinet doors. Make bed right after you stand up. No clothes draped on anything. If clean, fold and put away. If not clean, throw in washer right away. No hamper. Clear paths.

I managed to clear everything off my bathroom sink, including the handwash. I decluttered the bathroom cabinet and put everything in there that I use daily (toothbrush, paste, mouthwash, etc.). Then I got a soap dispenser that attaches to the wall. Now the whole area is clear, and it's so much easier to keep clean. Whenever the hand towel needs changing I take the used towel and give the sink area a wipe before throwing it in the laundry basket. This is easy because I don't have to pick up or move anything, and it helps keep the area looking good between the times when I give it a proper clean.

Having a plan with your fridge and pantry items is always a good thing. I like to have them both full to a point and do other things like meal prep, menu planning and once a quarter date checks. It's just like any other part of the house, they need to be organized and managed. For a while there I wrote in black magic marker the exp dates large so I could use those up sooner. I also added clear plastic bins in my fridge so things don't get pushed to the back & forgotten. Now do these things work all the time, no. I still have the things that I forget to check the date on but about 95% of the time I have very little food waste.

We are now giving away furniture because there is nothing inside any more. No new furniture is coming in. Clear surfaces are the default now. Every shelf in every cabinet is only half full as is every drawer. I put empty boxes in the back of under sink cabinets to prevent stuff from being shoved in. The fridge now is only 20% full. We only have one set of dishes and cutlery per person. Don’t wash your dish, well that’s your problem😊 the only thing I won’t minimize is my collection of liquor, liqueurs and bitters. I have it all arranged on bookshelves on a back wall. 2 nights a week my husband and I split a cocktail. I night is a new recipe and the other an old favorite. This Is a luxury that has made up for hardly ever going out to eat. Not even for coffee or fast food. We buy small amounts of extremely high quality raw food and rarely exceed $200 a month. I never thought I would live in a home so neat and clean. I wish I had done this 20yrs ago.

Years ago I got really good at saying “no thanks”. I decline things all the time. Don’t bring it in your home that’s less stuff to manage.

I actually counted everything I have, excluding food, soap, kitty litter, medicine etc. I counted every pen, pencil, fork, spoon, socks and so on. I have less than 800 things. My bedroom is fine but the living room still looks too crowded. I guess the kitty toys could go.

I regret sharing this video now that I got half way through it. I didn’t expect to see FUME. My husband died at 50 from cigarette smoking!

I understand what you’re saying but I don’t know if you realize that the purpose of Fume is to help people quit smoking cigarettes. So it may have helped someone like your husband. I’m sorry for your loss.

I like the donation box idea.I need to clean my refrigerator today that’s for sure. Wow I have stuff all over the place. But it is neat, organized and clean. It looks good but yet it still bothers me.!!!!

@@GabeBultIt totally works and adds a bit of extra to your vids. The shirt isn’t stupid, btw. It’s a pretty nice shirt! Works with your overall colour palette too. Have a great, relaxing weekend Gabe! And thank you sincerely for creating this content. For the first time in my adult life, and after years of trying, something clicked with your videos and I have had a clutter-free (and no dishes in the sink - even got my kids on board with this) kitchen for around 2 weeks now. And after discovering the Chemex I discovered coffee snobbery and I’ve found my new passion! (Coffee has always been a passion but nothing like this kind of level). I love how spending a long time on a cup of coffee pays respect to the long process of getting those beans to the table, if that makes sense. It’s become quite a spiritual thing. Lots of gratitude for coffee. And I wouldn’t have head down this track if not for finding you. 🙏 So, many thank you’s man. You really have no idea how much you’ve changed my family’s life.
