I will leave a caveat to money to Africa, Asia and Brazil. I cannot think the Labour Party has had time to put this is place and I vaguely remember it as part of COP26 with the Conservatives. Foreign and Commonwealth Office have Billions to give away each year and right now carbon and net zero tops the list. Starmer took 430 uncivil servants with him to COP29. The big difference was the conservatives did not announce this 'tractor tax' a few days after the exchequer picked our pockets! Starmer and Reeves did and that is unforgiveable. One fact I know is the Exchequer and any Government Dept has spreadsheets of BIG ideas. Each new Minister that arrives is presented these ideas as must do projects. Most Ministers take one look, say that is going to bin my popularity and tells them to can it. Reeves and Starmer are not that bright. They said whooppee we can really do something exciting and all the work is in place so it can happen NOW. Most civil servants take an eon to get any plan past the first hurdle. Problem with the new Labour Government they have a problem making a U turn. They think it would make them look foolish. Note to PM and his Chancellor: You look pretty foolish to most of us right now! Apart from being the worst liars in Westminster and that takes some doing!
@chrispenn7152 күн бұрын
I agree entirely with your view on how unjust these budget changes are to family farms. I think the reality is that Labour doesn't see farmers as their people: they assume farmers vote conservative. The double can tax was in fact due to be imposed by the last government who dropped it following representations by the NFU and CLA, this lot have just sneakily revived it. Perhaps they could advise where I can find a multi purpose car that will take the family out safely when necessary, have off road capability,carry two working dogs in a secure box,a tonne of animal feed of building materials or 50 fencing stakes, none of it will fit in a family saloon, hatchback or estate car. You've seen mine Ian and being retired didn't even get the vat back, but it's the best vehicle available for our needs.
@johngraham6181Күн бұрын
See my reply to Michael Bradley. Another idea dusted off the shelf and presented to the Chancellor as an action ready proposal. No need to speak with NFU, CLA or indeed the manufacturers, Already compliance to Net Zero means most double cab pickups are underpowered. I had little understanding of how farms worked until Lockdown and subscribing to 5 or 6 channels. It was “fun” to watch Clarkson learn what your vlogs had shown me. Are they wanting to raise funds on agricultural land, and end up owning it. Too political for me atm. I liked being part of the EU, I also believe in fair taxes for all, if that means things change, then so be it.
@FarmerPКүн бұрын
@@tarzansnuts4503 Nothing wrong with fair taxes, unless they result in negative results. Tax on profit is fine, vat on fuel, machinary, inputs, even labour. But robbing the land of its caretakers, leaving it vulnerable to industry, housing or investors with no interest in food production, that’s bad for everyone. The EU had its uses, and I think it will again, once they have recovered from the bruising. Leaving was never going to be pain free, we have to go through the decade of punishment first to make sure no one follows us.
@tarzansnuts4503Күн бұрын
@@FarmerP let me clarify fair taxes. land owners whether it’s farms or estates, hotels, or households, should all pay equally. The majority of the farms in my area have been split up, some are hobby farms, no more than a few acres, but still worth millions, a lot of farmland has been built on, all within green belt. All tax loopholes need to be closed, so the ones that can afford high priced accountants to “strategically invest” their clients money to reduce their tax burden, no longer applies. We give huge tax breaks to businesses outside our country, in hope to generate investment. If we are worth investing in, there would be no need for tax incentives. The government needs money coming in so it can give subsidies, to help businesses like yourselves or your Dads. The landscape of this country is forever changing, politicians like to call it evolving, I’m not sure I agree with that. Do I think it’s harsh bringing in a tax like this for farmers our age, hell yes. On a purely business front. You have an opportunity with your KZbin channel to earn some serious money, just by asking people to hit the like button and subscribe(Tom Pemberton) but you have stated on many occasions you’re not doing it for those reasons. KZbin bubbles, burst so make hay while the sunshine’s. Like I said too political atm, I know I’m going to get haters.

@ The income generated from You tube has made a big difference to us and our small farm, I have invested almost all of it back into buildings and equipment, it’s been a very welcome and unexpected bonus to keeping a daily diary, many other folks have cottoned on to it and are now joining the community, it’s become a diversification. I agree taxes must be levied but not from spite or malice, and not to cover the waste generated by many of our public services or foreign policies. The rich man with a nice house and twenty acres that produces nothing will escape this new tax, the multi millionaire who bought land to escape inheritance tax can afford clever accountants and advisors to avoid a lot of it. The back bone food producing farmer is stuck clearly in the middle. If the government want to squeeze a bit out of the big wealthy tax dodging investors they can be my guest, but to target the man who actually feeds them in a way that forces him to become less viable. Why?

Granted, I'm not really part of the farming community, but, the whole concept of inheritance tax just seems so mind-boggingly ludicrous... Not just to farmers, but everyone really. Maybe I'm getting that wrong, but basically you pay tax when you buy the land, you pay tax for when you build on it, you continue to pay tax if you choose to create a business on it (maybe not on the land itself, but I'm sure there's at least some sort of tax to pay), and after you die there's still more tax to pay if you choose to pass the whole thing on to children or ... whoever, really? Like I said, ludicrous. Though, I'm sorry to say, but I'm not all that surprised that promises were broken by some just so they could get their way - I mean, that's really not exactly unheard of in the world of politics. Its just that its not often this immediately and blatantly obvious... for you and everyone else in the same/similar position I really hope they'll find a way to work things out!
