So that rock is actually a sedimentary rock called conglomerate. Its a bunch of pebble sized clasts like quartz and other smaller rocks and minerals cemented by sand, silt, or clay. Its formed by glaciers that pick up a bunch of pebbles and small rocks and sand, silt, and clay and over time and with pressure it forms into what you dug out of your field.

A lot of people dream that farming is about driving tractors, trucks and combines. While it is all of that it is also about fixing the weatherstripping on the 12x12 roll up shop door, digging bolders out of the field and it sounds like replaceing the transmission in the 544. I deeply appreciate the tough side of reality that is also farming. It is a great life if you have the abilities and patience for it! Thank you to the Welkers for making it look easy even when its not! Most of the Dad jokes are usually enjoyed

^^ This. I did two seasons hauling sugar beets up by Pembina, ND. It wasn't growing the crop that was the big thing, it was about keeping all the machines running. they had 20+ semi trucks and three beet lifters. The boss and at least one other guy seemed to always be changing a bearing or something. Amazing amount of labor to keep things going.

When the main administration building was being built at Chanute AFB Illinois, the contractor went bankrupt pouring the foundation. Concrete kept going in and disappearing. Many years later, while building a missile silo training facility. The contractor hit solid concrete over a half mile from the admin building. The whole area was swamp land, and the concrete flowed underground, only to be discovered later.

I enjoy the big bud's and how you have kept them running. Good old American ingenuity. You can paint galvanized, but you have to prep it right. Vinegar with high acid content is a good prep wash that will etch the coating enough you can apply a premium primer. Then paint with a premium paint. Keep up the videos PS Bob seems to have a Bob Newhart dry sense of humor, always liked Newhart.

Make it easier on yourself when picking up rocks. I learned from my dad growing up on the farm to use a pitchfork to pick up rocks. It will save you a lot of bending over. You will be surprised at how big a rock that you can pick up without having to bend over. Of course the big ones need more than a pitch fork.

Back in the day we had a rock twice that size and used a 4020 and 4320 to pull it to it’s resting place . Like ours that looks like a lime rock deposit left from glacier movement. Lime is great if you can spread it in pebble form.

Ive worked in Sand & Gravel pits in Europe , we have a name for these, we call them crags ( Celtic word) . They were formed during Iceage & glaciers. We would be digging into the pit face ( 100 ft high) & next thing these things appear, sometimes they fall or roll out of the pit face & come straight for the machines , they can be as big as a Truck 🤠. We break them, with the hydraulic rock breaker, they break a lot easier than solid stone.
